Oscar Knox Paving Stone

1523

Last year at BMCUWP’s hootenanny in McChuills, many CQNers clubbed together and raised funds to buy something appropriate in memory of Wee Oscar. A fantastic amount was raised and we are delighted to announce a paving stone was purchased at very, very, favourable rates from Celtic, and now has its pride and place very close to the statue of Big Jock.

The tribute reads, Wee Oscar Knox, Heart of a lion, Courage of a champion.

Make sure you look out for it next time you are at Celtic Park.

  1. Captain Beefheart on

Well, last night we learnt that we wouldn’t want Martin O’Neill to ever return to Celtic.

As for James McLean? No thanks.

I was in Jock Stein upper, a guy got pushed down the stand causing me and a few others to go flying down a row. Some wee bairn was greeting and I got a few bruises(sob), but it was a bit of a shock. Expected to turn round and see the Ireland and Scotland fans fighting, but it was just a pished up Scotland fan pushing another trying to start a fight (or something). c**t got removed anyway.

There were as many Ireland fans as Scotland fans where I was standing but there was absolutely no trouble between them from what I could see.

    Hope he is doing well.

At the onset of the campaigning I was in the “no” camp, true Billybhoy05, may even recall me arguing against him. My argument was about the safety of Tims in an independent Scotland. I never did get an answer from Billybhoy05, to that concern.

On reflection, perhaps there isn’t one, and it was a leap into the dark.

I decided to vote yes, based on two things:

    1) The disgusting policies being meted on EVERY working class person and especially the unemployed.

    2) The SNP’s track record (and I’m fully aware of the OBAF ) with their devolved powers.

Firstly, your association of me with this humbles me,and I’m genuinely not worthy of that. The fundraisers were here long before me,they take all the credit.

Me,I just wanted a drink somewhere other than Kilwinning,wi guid Tims! And so so grateful that any arrived!!

Everything that was done for Oscar Knox was ultimately futile,as his disease took its toll on his tiny frame.

    But was it?

Yes,our Little Big Man is no longer with us. But his struggle for survival certainly must have inspired others-facing lesser, but harsh,problems-to look life full on and go..

Is that the best you can do?

I think I was one of the first to point out to his Dad-purely due to shifts worked at the time-that standing in The Jungle couldnae have been much fun when we sang Roaming in the Gloaming. He said it was worse when his pals changed Knox’s Christian name to suit!

Oscar will live on in more than simply a piece of concrete. He’ll always be with his family.

And because of his courageous struggle, that is one helluva big family.

Hail Hail,a little BHOY who made a difference.

Jamesgang well to be honest most things are actually quite simple. We just like to dress them and pretend we are intellectual. I was going to say less of the auld. But it’s true. I a, and auld git! But I take my grumpiness out on you lot on CQN. My family are grateful :)

turkeybhoy-the number of arrests is irrelevant, how many were lifted at the Loyalist rally in George Square? MY mate posted there was prolonged fighting in the JS stand,i believe him.Why don’t you? Or is that the reason you come on here?

“Or is that the reason you come on here”.

Who do you think you are talking to?.So I have to listen to your version of events, and take it as gospel?.You and certain other posters in the “Clique”really do get upset when anyone has a different version of events than you.You are reduced to the pathetic attempt to denounce anyone who wont toe your party line.

Does not wash with me.If you dont like what I say ,I dont care, its a forum, but spare me your pathetic, infantile attempts to somehow cast doubts on my motives.

Probably the level of your intelligence right enough.

  10. BCW errrr…..why am I asking the question? Cos I a, interested and I think the SNP track record is one of old fashioned Tory bribery and morn inside curtain twitcher legislation (as well as institutionally sectarian lawmaking). So I am interested in what was so good?

  12. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan supports Oscar Knox, MacKenzie Furniss and anyone else who fights Neuroblastoma on

    Good Afternoon.

Great tribute to Oscar Knox and that stone will always be there to remind us of the fight he put up and the bravery, kindness, compassion and love shown by Celtic fans to the Knox family.

There are those on here and elsewhere ( HT & Mynx to be sure ) who have become great and close friends with Stephen and Leona — and it just goes to show that even among the bad things that happen there is always some good.

    However:

Can I ask you all to remember that there are always others who are today fighting the same battle as Oscar and the same battle as Stephen and Leona.

They are hopefully getting helped out and given support by their own versions of Mouldy 67, HT, Mynx, CRC, Doc and loads of others and don’t forget Stevie Taylor ( Yompa ) and his round the world bike ride.

The greatest tribute we can ever make to Oscar is not only to remember him, but to also remember just why he came to our attention and why he gained a place in all our hearts.

That involves facing up to that horrible disease, how it is treated, or not, as the case may be and that up and down the country there will be very small children and their families who will face its full horror this Christmas.

Oscar Knox was a gorgeous, lovely, brave and fantastic wee boy.

But he was also a victim ….. and there are so many more like him.

I expect the Scottish supporters who got attacked were complaint about the anti-catholic/Irish vitriol being hurled at the Irish players.

Most likely they were singing the fields of athenry

  14. dont really have an issue with mcgeady getting booed if thats all it was ?

Or was some of the abuse more sinister than that.

We missed mccarthy alot last nyt id imagine.. Good engine and keeps ball well.

Gibson has been really unlucky with injury after great start to his everton career. Sounded like the type of game all players needed to be at 100%

    Great goal by maloney.

Don’t you want to read the first point (No. 1 to help you), before you start droning on ? The answer to negate your sectarian problem is there.

There was an extremely violent clash in the corner of the Celtic end between groups of supporters , the likes of which I have never seen before at Parkhead.

  23. very suprised at some of the comments about the game last night. I was there with my wife and niece. didn’t see any bother on the way to or the way from the stadium. Did see some fighting in the stadium in a section that was empty 20mins into the game. no idea what about but no worse than the fighting I saw at murrayfield between Celtic fans before the game and with the Icelandic team and the scuffle that broke out against legia. big supports in unfamiliar stadia perhaps.

I was suprised to hear total respect for the soldier song because I though at least some nutter would spoil it. through the booing of mcgeady I heard only one guy make offensive comments the gist of which was that he was a turncoat and the guy apologised to my niece for using an expletive. no sectarianism.

the urinating in the street was bad but when I was going to the game, a good hour before kick off, it was a mix of scots and Irish taking part. it was not pleasant but why are there no public toilets any more? at my age I struggle from town to stadium and had to make a deperate detour into KFC before heading into the park. no chance of getting into a pub on the way like I usually do as there were queues everywhere.

we had a great time, met up with a fellow Celtic/scotland fans in the stadium and even managed to find a pub in town that wasn’t jammed after my wife and niece headed home. piper at the bus stop was a good laugh as we headed back to the south side.

I feel sorry for those who had there night spoilt. me and my wife loved it and my niece has been going on about how great it was. we had a brilliant night with a great result.

Anyway james mcclean despite what you saw last nyt would make celtic a better team.. Twice the player tonev or derk are.. Hard working left sided player who will run through a brick wall for you plus chip in with goals and assits.

    Sounds good to me.
