Our game in jeopardy. There are no words

548

Footballers may be our champions, but you probably have little idea the trouble that goes into getting some mundane, but not contracted, tasks completed.  There are exceptions, but the industry has a hierarchical system where the powerful (players) make sure their powerless colleagues (anyone else employed by the club who is not the coach or CEO) know their place in the food chain.  Even within the players group, the hierarchy is alive and well.

I have seen this with my own eyes going back as far as Martin O’Neill’s team and it can be brutal.  “Welcome to the club, son, now you better start acting like Beyonce”, seems to be how it goes.  We treat them like pampered superstars and they behave accordingly.  They certainly don’t need to worry about the people who ultimately pay their wages, because their wages are guaranteed, often for years.

Today, I feel resentment towards players as a group, which I know is unfair.  All the minor infractions I have been aware of over the years were brought to the surface by one major infraction.  That’s judging a group by the actions of a few, and we have names for that kind of thinking.  Better to remember Callum McGregor and Scott Brown reaching out to the dying.  Some players ‘get it’ and I am grateful for that.

The game in Scotland and Celtic’s European campaign is in jeopardy because of the actions of one Celtic player.  There are no words.  He can take a taxi back to the airport in two weeks.  Some others could do with a dose of humility, and learn to behave less like divas and more like respectful adults.

  1. I was not satisfied by Aberdeen FC response and neither am I with ours, so far.

All the apologies and protestations are worth nothing unless accompanied by speedy punitive action against any player concerned.

It is imperative that Celtic and football should not just speak but to act and to be seen to take act.

  2. At the moment it is all about getting games in the legs and it’s two games less we have to do that

Not to mention the possibility of being 11 points behind ffs

I was right not to get excited for this season

  3. Never has the phrase ‘I’ll drive him to the airport masel..’ been more apt and ironic

I have never, ever mentioned a heated driveway, so no idea where you’re coming from…

My guess is the tried and trusted smoking mirrors and deflection.

Well, that’s an old ploy, the Res12, 5 way agreement, huge bonuses, has meant most with a modicum of common sense see through that now.

If you want to join in think of something constructive to say.

  6. Why fly to Spain for one day (if that’s what happened) in the midst of a pandemic?

Am I right in thinking that the authorities take the contact details of everyone returning from Spain?

Do they explain the requirement to quarantine?

“Do you not agree with the statistically backed statement that Celtic’s skill advantage is reduced on plastic pitches? Do you not agree that they should be banned? Are you dissimilar?”

You act as if its something illegal or novel. For years now we have had to face Accies, Killie and Livingston on plastic pitches.

We did it last year and we knew we would have to this year, so how does it in anyway excuse our level of performance? Its just looking for an excuse. Every team in the league has to play on it.

We even had posters saying that Kilmarnock played 10 men behind the ball. Have people not watched Scottish football before? Nevermore that they have every right to do it.

As for banning plastic. Sure, would love to. But they aren’t, so get on with it and stop looking to put our unbelievably poor performance down to the pitch.

Everyone is to blame bar Celtic. We better get our act together and quick. NL is quoted as saying the squad is thin. The decision to let Jozo and JH go (a business not football decision) and not replace them is truly baffling.

The JH decision is further compounded by Boli’s actions, notwithstanding JH was ahead of Boli in the pecking order.

We’ve downsized on the way to 10IAR- that’s what I call business acumen.

  8. As for the sermonising by Sturgeon, do me a favour.

Boli and the rest of them are selfish, self entitled arseholes, but the risk their actions present to the general public is as nothing compared to the decision to allow the pubs to open.

    Who is Bolingoli’s agent?

Maybe a quiet private flight to have secret talks with another club hence the 24 hour return?

  10. To warrant disciplinary action, the employee’s out of hours conduct must be such that, viewed objectively, it is likely to cause serious damage to the relationship between the employer and employee; or the conduct damages the employer’s interests; or the conduct is incompatible with the employee’s duties as an employee: Rose v Telstra Corporation Ltd [1998] AIRC 1592 at [30].

If you are bored you can look it up.

Not always easy to prove a dismissal on these grounds, a lot of attempts have failed.

I think he will just be quietly pushed out after the dust settles

I am currently in quarantine having just returned from Spain.

The evening before the flight back to London I completed a complicated ( double negative type questions ) HM Gov on- line information landing form. It was very detailed.

On the flight back I guessed that more than half knew nothing about this mandatory form and Ryanair didn’t assist with no announcement or hard copies distributed.

On landing at Luton we all simply passed through customs without mention or sight of forms.

So my guess is that at least half the plane were in breach.

I then boarded a coach to Baker Street so already quarantine application is shoddy. Interestingly the coach operator took my temperature before boarding.

No excuses for Bolingoli- he has been reckless, selfish and damaged Celtic Football Club . The impact has still to be felt.

  12. If, as hinted, he was over there in negotiating mode, perhaps we can get compo from the mob tapping him up. Which airport, which city is mentioned?

In effect, he’s mibby done us a favour in now forcing the need to get in a proper LB who will vie with GT and the elusive Mr Gutman for the number 3 slot. Most fans are ropable thinking the 10 has somehow evaporated.

Wouldnt want to be in the lads shoes today; loathed by all at club, and mibby torpedoed his pro career entirely just by being so selfishly stupid.

If you fall into a quicksand don’t waste time thinking how it happened. That is done. Stay controlled and find a realistic way to extricate yourself without causing further damage.

“You act as if its something illegal or novel.”- Nope that’s your attribution 100%

“so how does it in anyway excuse our level of performance?”- it doesn’t and , again, “excuse” is your word, but it helps to explain why it happens- to us and to most football clubs. Explanations and excuses are two different concepts- no conflation or deliberate confusing of them helps a debate along.

“Everyone is to blame bar Celtic.”- More attribution and straw man stuff. Not one single poster- not even a crazy one- ever stated that.

“The decision to let Jozo and JH go (a business not football decision) and not replace them is truly baffling. “- Well it is if you ignore the fact that the window has a long way to run and an honest analysis would insert the word “yet” after “replace them”. Few Celts are sad to see Jozo and Johnny go. Jozo was too unreliable for fitness- nice lad and decent defender that he was- and would certainly have missed the Killie game even if he was here. Johnny did a great turn for us and was, at least as good as Boli and Taylor last year but he is an ageing pro at 33 and it was a good time to move him on. Let’s see who we replace him (them) with, before making final judgement- as Boli is likely to be going now too

Agreed. Doubtless there will be procedural niceties to be observed, but so far as the substance is concerned I can’t imagine a more clear cut case.

You seem to be confusing me with Paul67

I haven’t said a word about the Chairman of Aberdeen.

    My take on Aberdeen:

If the club were clear with the players (and by all accounts, they have been) yet the players chose to ignore that then I wouldn’t hold the Chairman of Aberdeen responsible.

He has no power to make those players obey the rules in their own time. He’s relying on them to do so and they let the club down.

Amazing to think that the stupidity of football players including one of our own should give Nicola Sturgeon the opportunity to deflect from the disaster that is the Scottish government’s handling of school students’ examination results. As in downgrading the results of better performing students from the most deprived economic areas. St Joseph’s RC Academy in Kilmarnock used to be a school to aspire to, back in the day, but last week 51% of their assessed results were downgraded. 51%. That’s more than half in my book.

    Swinney on now….

  18. The decision to postpone games is political – there are no know health or safety reasons – the squad is covid free – Nicola flexing her muscles and setting an example.

  19. @ TIMALOY29 on 11TH AUGUST 2020 1:55 PM

Disagree. Firstly, in regards to the Killie result, posters are entitled to comment on issues which have been around for a while now: Scott Brown and whether he merits selection; our tactics and formation- 2 up front reaped success last year, why revert to 1; and how thin our squad is- 1 striker and 1 winger on the bench from a possible 9. Two of our subs were full backs- Neil has even stated the squad is thin.

Some posters are looking at history expecting it to win 10IAR for us. You need to go out and earn it, particularly this year with our nearest competitor stronger than before.

Secondly, if you want to rely upon the ‘well run club’ mantra, than we should expect to see forward progress on and off the field, particularly in such an important season. That’s lacking.

P.s. the hotel development is a squirrel. We are now looking to push ahead with the development (which has been sitting on the back.shelf for 3 years) during a pandemic? Just another excuse as to why the money is not being spent…its being held back for the hotel.

  20. Employers don’t know what their employees are up to 24/7 and neither should they. The employer sets down rules etc. As far as I can see Boli broke the law and should get a visit from Scotland’s finest.😒

  21. The SQA seem to be getting an easy ride here on the Exam results fiasco. Was it not them who devised the algorithm to predict results – acknowledging that the Scot Govt undoubtedly provided the parameters.

It is difficult to imagine what other course of action the Scot Govt could have taken re the Bolingoli Affair.

  22. GENE.

    You are exactly correct.

As things stand he can be fined 480 pounds for not self isolating ( assuming it is his first offence )

    But that is about it.

What will be really interesting would be whether clubs have asked players to sign anything

regarding their future conduct after the visit from the Scottish Government.

If they were he is toast.

  23. It is reasonable for employers to ask their employees not to go to high risk countries or at least be kept informed of travel plans to manage the risk to others.
