Our game in jeopardy. There are no words

548

Footballers may be our champions, but you probably have little idea the trouble that goes into getting some mundane, but not contracted, tasks completed.  There are exceptions, but the industry has a hierarchical system where the powerful (players) make sure their powerless colleagues (anyone else employed by the club who is not the coach or CEO) know their place in the food chain.  Even within the players group, the hierarchy is alive and well.

I have seen this with my own eyes going back as far as Martin O’Neill’s team and it can be brutal.  “Welcome to the club, son, now you better start acting like Beyonce”, seems to be how it goes.  We treat them like pampered superstars and they behave accordingly.  They certainly don’t need to worry about the people who ultimately pay their wages, because their wages are guaranteed, often for years.

Today, I feel resentment towards players as a group, which I know is unfair.  All the minor infractions I have been aware of over the years were brought to the surface by one major infraction.  That’s judging a group by the actions of a few, and we have names for that kind of thinking.  Better to remember Callum McGregor and Scott Brown reaching out to the dying.  Some players ‘get it’ and I am grateful for that.

The game in Scotland and Celtic’s European campaign is in jeopardy because of the actions of one Celtic player.  There are no words.  He can take a taxi back to the airport in two weeks.  Some others could do with a dose of humility, and learn to behave less like divas and more like respectful adults.

  1. LAZYDYNAMITE @ 5:27 PM,

I also do not see how this is Peter Lawell’s fault or indeed Neil Lennon.

So, do you think that at a time of pandemic and the fact government and society have given football the privilege of restarting, when theatre’s, cinema, gigs, many hospitality establishments etc etc can’t due to the risk – and income and livlihoods are lost to much resentment.

That the exacting and draconian, procedures and protocols footballers have to endure should be left to the footballers own devices, or do you think they should be educated, guided, supported and informed and re-informed and supported some more – as to their roles and responsibilities in this respect by the Club’s management?

I know what I would do, I wouldn’t be leaving it to the footballer.

    Hail Hail

  2. Was silly Boli away talking to another club I’ve heard he possibly was anyone else heard this?

“Boligate” should be put behind us. Think we need to change the narrative as we now have time to sharpen up the tactical awareness and energy before next Tuesday’s CL game.

And although we might have to wait until next year to play catch up, we might play some of them in front of fans attending CP and have new players well fitted into the squad and playing the Celtic way.

If we are points behind and if we go on a run the leaders will look over their shoulders like a tiring horse lumbering up the closing straight with a thoroughbred charging up on the outside.

Just make sure we are in a situation to terrify teams above us when the time comes !

I know EmbraMike, we will now be playing Catch-Up.

Hopefully, we come back like my old Car, which I nicknamed Seabiscuit.

Which I’ve looked after over the years, & it has served me well.

I hope we come back like a Bullet Train, I win 10IAR.

  7. As an aside.

I don’t agree that here is an organizational toxic culture.

Ours behaves the same as others.

I did though have a nagging concern around the shear numbers of execs that attended both our games so far. Why did they have to attend.

How long till someone other than a player falls Ill.

Let’s see how it is handled.

PS. The league will fold as soon as we hit normal sneezy season

  8. KingLubo, a Classic wee playrer, a gift from God.

Talking of players , Paul, I think the worst example by miles is Mesut Ozil of Arsenal. He is, when he can be arsed, a fabulous player, no doubt but a thoroughly bad little character, with no thought for the club or it’s fans, a disgrace of a human being.

KingLubo, Mesut Ozil’s problem, is his Attitude.

  9. I’ve been really down since hearing the Boli news last night so time to take my mind off that by watching Dundee Utd v Hibs, 6pm kick off. 2 of my least disliked other teams.

PS, if the 3 voters who put Boli in their top 3 from Sunday want to send me some hush money, you know where to find me ;-)

  10. CHAIRBHOY on 11TH AUGUST 2020 5:49 PM

Do not follow you at all.

If Boli had run over a child in his sports car midweek it would not have been our manager or chief Exec’s fault.

    Boli is responsible for himself.

He is a top athlete who gets paid probably around 20k a week by our club .

We demand that he is responsible and professional.

HE is the only one to blame here…not Lawell or Lennon.

If they had found out he was anywhere near an airport midweek he would have been sacked on the spot if he didn’t turn around.

You are simply using this very unfortunate incident to air your own grudge against the way you ‘feel’ about Lawell.

Celtic have been doing everything they can to apply covid measures.

We do not run a primary school. We are a football club who employ elite athletes.

It is more than obvious that what happened should not have happened.

And if proof were needed then surely the fact that Lennon gave him a rare outing on Sunday proves the manager had zero idea what he had been up to or where he had been.

Celtic are not to blame .The stupid ,cheating ,lying player IS to blame.

When he was good, he was exciting..when he was bad, he was scary bad…

and when he was trusted to do the ‘right’ thing, allegedly, he sneaked off to Spain, didn’t tell anyone, came back and took his place on the bench…thoughtless and selfish actions. I’m sure we’ll soon find out what went on…

  13. A lot of heat on here today and not much light. The whole incident might be a wake up call to the players and management how important this season is to everybody. It may be that In adversity we find a galvanising force that will take us to the 10.

We may have dodged a bullet today and the Scottish Government would have been well within its rights to cancel the season. If not being allowed to play two league games is the only punishment we get then we have gotten off lightly.

Bolingoli is toast and any other players who cross the line should face a similar fate, I have heard that there might be 2 more – one from each side of the Glasgow divide.

For the Labour die hards who have short memories (ok 20 years ago) the SNP are not the only party to fall foul of SQA, when there was no COVID-19 pandemic to deal with:

Moral of the story – what goes around comes around. 😉

  14. LAZYDYNAMITE @ 6:01 PM,

Well, this is the point isn’t it?

You don’t get me. Yet you have always seemed smart and on the ball but you don’t understand what I’m saying. And that’s fine, we are two people commenting on a blog.

What’s not fine is mis-communication with regard Covid, to leave the responsibility of understanding and following Covid-19 procedures and protocols to footballers is unacceptable.

No matter how smart they are, no matter how much they get paid, no matter how rich they are, it is hugely important that organisations rigourously and robustly implement their Covid-19 policies.

It CANNOT be left to the footballers, they will get it wrong. It is NOT their area of expertise. They are not the most reliable of personnel, our management should know that.

    Hail Hail

Good afternoon Celts, I’m reading the previous pages but was moved to post this on the sfa twitter page as der hun were having fun with all this shenanigans. I posted the following, which I think is a valid question.

“Any news of the first offence, the rangers v motherwell game which went ahead without test results. Perhaps this first offence should be dealt with more severely as the clubs (not the players), were the ones who completely disregarded the rules on players testing”.

    ………………….

Don’t know if it’s been pointed out yet but it was the afternoon game Rangers v Dundee Utd where 9 Rangers players were played without their test results being known.

  16. DESSYBHOY on 11TH AUGUST 2020 5:33 PM

Pull the players out of international squads and play them then.

    —————————

I’m with you mhate, unprecedented times squeeze games in when we can.hh

  17. Just heard about boli and games being called off, he is stupid and I dont want to see him in a celtic team again, tbf I felt like that before he acted the cunt 😅. Surely on public health grounds kilmarnock’s game this week should also be called off, or am I missing something? They have been in contact with boli, regardless of the negative results. The scottish government are showing a lack of leadership.

Nicola had better hope no killie player or staff member get coronavirus.

At any rate I reckon this season will be a bust flush unless a vaccine can be made, there is already an increase in infection rate, once kids go back to school to allow parents to go back to work, students start college and public transport travel increases we can look forward to lots of game cancellations, which by it’s very nature effects multiple fixtures.

    HH

  18. Not their area of expertise ?

Stay home was the instructions. It’s not rocket science.

  19. !!BADA BING!! on 11TH AUGUST 2020 6:11 PM

    How did Bolingoli get caught?

Via his selfish stupid karma, his Agent, the Media, The Airports CCTV, & His Airline Ticket,

    what a fanny is MBomboclot.

  20. Chairbhoy on 11th August 2020 6:13 pm

    ——-

Why are you treating footballers different to any other profession that has been allowed to go back to their work places? Why are they a special case?

Or are you saying that all other employers have come up with guidance, instructed their staff, made them acknowledge their responsibility, and then continually monitored their staff to ensure they are following the guidance?

  21. Never rated Boli and will not miss him but genuinely shocked that one of our dressing room would do that to his mates.

Trying to look for the bright side here and I believe there is one. We were not at the races on Sunday now we get two skip two games, plan for the big game next week and perhaps the games in hand will be played in front of fans.

We get to ditch Boli and get a new and better replacement in. Again, always thought he was a mistake but now we know he is more than just a poor left back, he’s not a terribly considerate team mate.

  22. !!BADA BING!! on 11TH AUGUST 2020 6:11 PM

    How did Bolingoli get caught?

Yeah, plus the tracker, programmed into his Mobile Phone.

  23. Has the Huns friendly where they played without proper testing being airbrushed from history?

That was worse than ours or Sheep. The whole manky club knew what they were doing but nada said in press

Dont get me wrong Bolinfuckwit should get fined 1.5million in wages and left to rot with our youth teams.

    D :)

    AKBW1888- which one?

All of These sources, I’ve just mentioned.

  25. Yep, one of the benefits for me is that we won’t be playing on Wednesday, had a horrible feeling that Lenny was going to pick the exact same line up and formation.

  26. THE_HUDDLE on 11TH AUGUST 2020 6:27 PM

I assume Boli posted something on social media, it catches them all out :O)

Yeah The_Huddle Board, MBomboclot, probably he is that stupid, to post

    this on Social Media.

  27. SAINT STIVS @ 6:21 PM,

    No it wasn’t St Stivs.

Again, you have always seemed very smart to me yet you have got this protocol wrong.

On Friday’s Presser Lenny made it clear that the bhoys had been allowed to go out, that lockdown had eased, in fact look at WDH’s post to see what he said.

In light of what happened in Aberdeen things changed on Friday.

There is a lot of when, why, where but no one is suggesting Boli was anywhere he shouldn’t have been on Friday.

Listen to Lenny, even then he’s very woolly about it…

So if you got it wrong.!?

    Hail Hail

“Secondly the black arts, just two of many examples…

… the Character assassination of Brendan Rodgers, throwing Leigh Griffths under a bus.

The club hushed up the issue of Brendan trying to get away to China. The person who told me about the row did not post it online at the time and neither did I. We both thought of Celtic’s interest first and did not wash this linen in public.

The first sign that the blogosphere was picking up on dispute was when Brendan started sending out dog whistles at his Press conferences, like “millions of wingers”. The we had OTT articles from a number of prominent bloggers all taking sides that confirmed their original bias. Although, Dermot tried to patch things up, he also knew Brendan was working his ticket and had lost trust with him. He still expected him to see out the season so the Leicester departure, even though we were compensated, was the end of a period of betrayal and mistrust. Brendan did not go because Paul 67 wrote a few critical articles; he eft because he wanted to and because he could.

Leigh was thrown under no bus either; he was surrounded and protected by the club but his reform has been gey slow. Leigh has been playing tig with the buses and it is his responsibility for the outcome. Lenny disciplined Leigh because of a faiure to heed friendly warnings. Everyone has a last straw.

Then the way they deal with other Clubs and players… recent examples – Lustig, Hayes, Simunovic getting usthered out the back door with a bad taste in their mouth.

Older players leave all the time at clubs all over the world. These types of departure are the norm and not the black arts. We got rid of all 3 at the right time, just as we did with Sutton and Hartson, two fantastic servants too. The mistake we made was with Paul Lambert- we pay senior players a lot. Let them do their retirement planning with their own money

How can this breed anything other than a bad reputation and corporate culture?
