Our injury-prone great

275

For a club which habitually loses its exceptional players, having one too injury prone to tempt the top English sides is no bad thing.

Cameron Carter-Vickers meets at least two of these criteria, he is exceptional and, of late, has been injury prone.

Celtic have lots of games against significantly weaker opposition, we can afford to rest Cameron and save him for the trickier games. After a knee-related twinge and a clear scan, he’s likely to start on Saturday against St Johnstone. The season is at that stage of tricky.

I feel we should rest him so that any pain has gone before the more difficult challenges to come, but there will be relief to see him on the line-up on Saturday.

  1. if we use the new XG measurement, celtic were rubbish in lisbon.

38 shots and only scored twice.

    -))))))

  2. NO Winners for me in the 4.10 and 4.50 Races at Cheltenham..alhough I ” LOST” the 8/1 winner in the 4.10 Race as I had it in an each way double with a Horse that was 40/1…

Whos a silly Bhoy then ?

    LOL

    HH.

  3. Wasn’t this very blog advocating rushing him back from injury a mere few weeks ago?

    https://www.celticquicknews.co.uk/incremental-gains-required/

If he is getting rushed back, and given the options behind I understand why the temptation is there, then being more injury-prone is the most predictable outcome. Players need to be protected. Particularly players of his ability. I never understood why McGregor playing so many games was held up as a badge of honour. Playing that volume of minutes was always going to catch up with him. If they’re not fit don’t risk them just because of the failures of the recruitment department to source adequate quality in squad depth.

Waiting for Dom for Mary in the last race to clear first 3 days. Here’s hoping. 🤞

  5. One of my great memories of being at Lisbon was the way the Portuguese took to wee Jimmy as he weaved his way time after against the Italian defence. Rest in Peace Jimmy you were the greatest.

  6. connaire – when was the first time you remember them being called the lisbon lions ?

  7. the “artwork” for the tifo, dearie me, drawn by primary kids ?

and any sympathy to convince co-efficient and more games helps us is shattered before kick off with a rousing sectarian song ………… as predicted.

  8. still not sure if I want the huns pumped

Or a win (an injury or two) and 2 more fixtures with the coefficient getting a boost….

I always want the huns pumped, but not sure which of the above hurts them more

  9. St Stivs, I really have to admit I cannot remember. But I will never forget Lisbon. It was such an incredible day. I was furious with a couple of Italians who insisted that our seats were their seats. They were totally surrounded by Celtic supporters. At half time they got the message and decided to move on to the Italian section of the stadium. Not of course before turning to me and laughing saying that now that they had scored, “Herrera no lose this”. Will not tell you what I did then, but they got off their marks very smartly. .

  10. No winners in the 4:10 ?

Well, inspired by your good self, I decided to have a wee flutter. Here is the outcome:

PS I`ve got a bet on the Huns to Qualify tonight. For me, it is a no lose bet :-)).

  11. Saturday 14th

Again, another uneventful somewhat boring day. My weight is 58.25 kgs, and no medical complaints. I read the papers, which are full of trash.

Tonight’s tea was pie and beans, and although hunger may fuel my imagination (it looked a powerful-sized meal), I don’t exaggerate: the beans were nearly falling off the plate. If I said this all the time to the lads, they would worry about me, but I’m all right.

It was inviting (I’m human too) and I was glad to see it leave the cell. Never would I have touched it, but it was a starving nuisance. Ha! My God, if it had have attacked, I’d have fled.

I was going to write about a few things I had in my head but they’ll wait. I am looking forward to the brief company of all the lads at Mass tomorrow. You never know when it could be the last time that you may ever see them again.

I smoked some cigarettes today. We still defeat them in this sphere. If the Screws only knew the half of it; the ingenuity of the POW is something amazing. The worse the situation the greater the ingenuity. Someday it may all be revealed.

On a personal note, Liam Og (the pseudonym for Bobby Sands’ Republican Movement contact on the outside), I just thought I’d take this opportunity tonight of saying to your good hard-working self that I admire you all out there and the unselfish work that you all do and have done in the past, not just for the H-Blocks and Armagh, but for the struggle in general.

I have always taken a lesson from something that was told me by a sound man, that is, that everyone, Republican or otherwise, has his own particular part to play. No part is too great or too small, no one is too old or too young to do something.

There is that much to be done that no select or small portion of people can do, only the greater mass of the Irish nation will ensure the achievement of the Socialist Republic, and that can only be done by hard work and sacrifice.

So, mo chara, for what it’s worth, I would like to thank you all for what you have done and I hope many others follow your example, and I’m deeply proud to have known you all and prouder still to call you comrades and friends.

On a closing note, I’ve noticed the Screws have been really slamming the cell doors today, in particular my own. Perhaps a good indication of the mentality of these people, always vindictive, always full of hate. I’m glad to say that I am not like that.

Well, I must go to rest up as I found it tiring trying to comb my hair today after a bath.

So venceremos, beidh bua againn eigin la eigin. Sealadaigh abu.

    (Translated, this reads as follows:)

So venceremos, we will be victorious someday. Up the Provos.

appreciate your posts, usually very high calibre stuff. I KNOW the history and all that but please tell me exactly what Bobby Sands has to do with CELTIC.

    No disrespect intended

    Re Bobby Sands.

On CQN over the years discussion have ranged from Trump to Thatcher Gaza to Israel and the No/ Yes campaign in Scotland. I’m sure there is more issues I have failed to mention that has been discussed. If the topic irks one then feel free to ignore. Some on this site have an interest about tbe writings of a person whose life is coming to an end. If CQN was all about Celtic… then it has failed.

  14. If Sparta Prague and Victoria Plzen both lose, the coefficient won’t matter anyway.

    Win-win 😊

  15. Yassss! Feck them. Can’t stand them winning anything. We will take care of ht league regardless of their European games.

So back to my open question –

pre pr and marketing days, and indeed the only commercialisation the old board new (ie tickets and , pies and scarfs) who first used the term “the lisbon lions” ?

Was it on the street when the team returned ? adopted over time ? can anyone remember when it became common use?

It was a huge full page headline in the Green Citizen late special edition after the game . . .

    LISBON LIONS CONQUER EUROPE

    . . . or something similar.

It was on the streets and newsstands at 8pm.

Michail Antonio has just come off to a standing ovation after a brilliant shift.

    When he’s fit – unplayable

    When he’s not – unwatchable

Just something about naturally big guys sustaining their fitness.

Even when just a wee bit off it physically?

    Massive performance drop off.
