Policing as Celtic return to Lanarkshire

291

Celtic fans return to Lanarkshire on Saturday, just a few miles away from New Douglas Park, where Hamilton Accies and Celtic fans were both harassed while cooperating together to protest against the Offensive Behaviour’ Act.

The policing at Hamilton two weeks ago was politically motivated. It used recent legislation, ostensibly designed to protect society from sectarianism, to prohibit peaceful political protest. The concerted forces of the Scottish Government and Police Scotland has ensured that your freedom to stage peaceful political protest is been enormously curtailed in recent years – banners bearing the message “Accies against the Act” were confiscated.

If you were subject to any of the well documented police action at Hamilton, and intend travelling to Motherwell on Saturday, do not be surprised if you are singled out.

Fir Park Motherwell is a considerably more combustible venue than New Douglas Park. It has been the scene of vandalism, general hooliganism and a pitch invasion to taunt opposition fans in recent times. Police appear reluctant to get involved with fans for these activities at Motherwell. As a football fan, it is your political views you have to watch out for.

Before planning your trip to Motherwell it’s worth revisiting this comment by Brogan Rogan’ last week.

Also take a look at the Citizens Advice notice on police powers in Scotland. If police search you, even if no offence has been committed, they can seize whatever they want. Some pretty innocuous political dissent has been proscribed.  I’m appalled – and so are some officers I know.

Living on the streets in winter in Scotland has to be one of the most challenging aspects of humanity.  Next month, you can share what this means, by sleeping trackside at Celtic Park with dozens of others for the Foundation, as part of hte 2015 Christmas Appeal.  The Celtic Foundation provide nourishment and shelter to the many of the city’s homeless each winter.

This is social outreach at its hardest.  There is nothing easy about sleeping rough in Scotland.  You can find out more here.  Join in and aim to raise £125.  Well done to the dozens already signed up.

  2. So wee Shaun was more devestated at not qualifying for the Euros with Scotland than when we lost the league at Motherwell.

Would someone please call him a doctor..

  3. This is a direct lift from The Citizen’s Advice column

“When can the police seize possessions from you in the street or your car?

Once they have carried out a search, the police have the power to seize and retain anything that they consider to be relevant to an offence. The police can seize cash of £1,000 or more if they suspect that it could be the result of the proceeds of crime.”

The Police need to suspect an OFFENCE, then they are required to inform you of their reasons for searching you.

However, their discretion on what constitutes suspicion of an an offence is very broad, frequently subjective and they will justify what action they take so as to legitimize whatever consequences fall from that action.

  4. “lost”

Isn’t wee Shauny even more devastated now that he knows he was cheated out of cups and titles by Deidco while he was at Celtic, and not just on light-grey Sunday?

  5. Because, it appears, to the majority of players it’s a job nothing more. They get paid, then move onto the next pay cheque.

  6. The_huddle

The cheating hit them in the pocket too, with lost bonus money, and less in the pot for wages through loss of CL revenue.

You’d think that at least would get their dander up, if not the lost Glory.

  7. Police Scotland would do better to concentrate on real issues with the public service they’re meant to provide such as :

    – Getting their call cente issues fixed

    – Training their senior officers on how to log a call from a member of the the public requesting urgent assistance

    – Removing cars and bodies from a field within 3 days of an accident

    – Ensuring their offiers aren’t walking about with guns in the ASDAs while buying their lunchtime sausage rolls

    – Answering questions honestly that are put to them in the Scottish Parliament

    – Explaining their Stop & Search the Kids policy

There’s lots of things they could do if they want respect from the general public, but they’re more interested in abusing the power, manipulating statistics and greetign about budgets for more overtime. Time they started to look at themselves and ask questions about their own service and develop a plan to bring it up to a professional standard.

  11. The Police can’t do this, the police can’t do that?

    Here’s a wee news flash,

Police Scotland, USA .Canada, England, Ireland Wales, Spain, Portugal, Holland, France,Germany,Italy and many many other countries, can do WETF they want, trust me, biggest gang in the world.

Quite a few people ( I could have said `an awful lot`) tell me Celtic are rubbish at the moment. As I actually enjoy watching RD`s Celtic more than I did Nl`s or GS`s, I thought I would have a wee look at the Table to see how we are doing. I was particularly interested in how terrible our defence apparently is. Certainly, BBC`s Sportscene mentions our defensive frailty at every opportunity. I am told the MSSM does the same and there are certainly CQNers who follow suit.

So, imagine my surprise (thank you, Viz) when I discovered that we have the best defensive record in the Top Division. We have also scored more than anyone else and have lost fewer games (if one loss can be called `games`).

I have concluded that maybe it is OK for me to be enjoying the football after all. Or maybe I forgot to factor in the only recently discovered phenomena that we have greater resources than the others?

Hearing the foot soldiers allocation for Tynecastle is down to the bare bones. No tickets for players or some board members which has been taking out of our allocation. Seems budge is putting her foot down with Celtic.

The Clumpany, thank you for your latest clump about Show racism the red card.

I have a real issue with that dumplin, Fraser Wishart, SPFA head honcho and part of the kick it out or show racism the red card campaign.

Now when Neil, Aiden and James McCarthy wete receiving all sorts of grief , Wishart was nowhere to be seen or heard regarding the anti -Irish and sectarian comments also aimed at them by people and underhand comments from the media.

All three were members of the SPFA and neither that weasel, Wishart , nor Tony Higgins said anything in public to condemn the treatment of three of their members.

The only time I can remember hearing anything from the weasel, Wishart, is when something has went on at Ibrox. the admin for example.

When De Marcus Beasley’s car was damaged, the weasel came put and had a go at us alleging Celtic fans had damaged the car.

When the truth came out, Beasley had a fling with some gangster’s girlfriend ,the gangster was the one who had damaged the car. No retraction was forthcoming, unsurprisingly, from the weasel that is Fraser Wishart.

Naka and McGeady are favourites of mine so I really enjoyed the WGS years but I’m also enjoying RDs Celtic.

Some crazy results but after the initial slow burn we really clicked last season, only disappointment I’m finding this season is our fitness. It seems like RD got them fitter last season then they lost it all over the summer and we’re starting again.

I found once I became a realist and accepted where we are in the football world, I started to enjoy football more.

The `one up front`assertions make me smile. How often, at Celtic Park, do we have `one up front`? The reality is that we have almost a whole team `up front` for most of nearly every game!

I think when some think of the lone striker set up, they imagine acres of space and Wee Leigh running his heart out without any support. The reality, of course, is very different.

  17. Fraser Wishart is like something you would scrape of your shoe, before you went into your house, a toxic little imbecile that has to be watched very very, carefully, in case anyone who knows him and sais he’s a nice guy, that’s fine, all I’m saying is he is a rat.

My mate sits beside me and is paranoid about this one up front, it doesent work…and when Celtic go on attack I say…oh look wee got three, four, five up front, he still doesent get it, lol.

  20. Good to see others are enjoying watching RD’s Celtic. When they click, they play some really entertaining stuff.

Isn’t SRtRC run by someone who supports the deid team? I wouldn’t imagine anti-irish racism is one of his priorities. Of course, in Scotland, he is not likely to be challenged about this by the SMSM or anybody else, since it is Scotland’s Secret Shame.

Tell him we only play with one at the back ( Craig Gordon) but no one moans about that!

  22. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Tony, I agree completely with your post about Wishart. A loathsome individual. Almost as loathsome as top imbecile, Gordon Duffield Smith.

  23. It shouldn’t matter what any one person thinks of our football style – fewer people than ever are attending games because they are bored with the product on the park.

Indeed, if you look at the gulf in average market value of our players v the rest, last year’s gap was the highest yet. This year, Aberdeen have spent a bit more, so it’ll be a tighter contest, but anyone other than Celtic winning the league year would be an unprecedented

If Celtic’s success in the SPFL is not reflected in their European results (and it isn’t), the obvious conclusion to draw is that the Scottish teams around us are simply worsening faster than we are.

    This is managed decline.

  24. Over the last 20 years, Celtic have failed and occasionally succeeded in Europe, while most other SPL teams have failed. What’s changed? Is it a 20 year managed decline?

  25. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

I would love us to have a player of Naka’s ability in our team the now. It would enhance us greatly and we would score even more goals than we do now.

  26. Just read that applications for Hearts away in the league cup will be considered on attendance at the last 23 away games. Not that I am going to consider applying and I haven’t been anywhere near being at 23 away games over the last couple of years, but what about the poor guy who has probably been near that total but has probably missed out on a couple of away games due to either work commitments or other circumstances. Shafted

Wait and see when the Huns come back up next season applications for away tickets for Ibrox will be based on how many away games you have been too since they’ve been away

  27. Jungle Jim Hot Smoked on

” fewer people than ever are attending games because they are bored with the product on the park.”

The first clause is simply wrong and the second a totally unsubstantiated opinion. Why would you want to post those comments?

    JJ

  28. mickybhoy,

There’s more guys made all 23 games than there are tickets.

There will be guys who haven’t missed a game who will miss out.
