Results in preseason friendlies are (fortunately) notoriously unreliable indicators of results in competitive games, but Celtic will be alarmed at the scale of the deficit against Greuther Fuerth, from the German second tier, especially after reversals against Sevastopol and Cluj. Clubs from Ukraine, Romania and Germany are apparently organised, even during the summer months.
Next week’s game against Cliftonville is Celtic’s first test, but they will come thick and fast from now on.
Losing a friendly 6-2 brought an unwelcome feeling. Then I wondered how it would have felt to lose a competitive game by the same score to a major rival. Ouch. Made me feel a little better.

Heard a wee whisper that we are looking at Maccabi Haifa defensive midfielder Avihai Yadin as a replacement for Vic. Herad good things about this lad so here’s hoping.

“Results in preseason friendlies are (fortunately) notoriously unreliable indicators of results in competitive games”
I agree however being ‘ viciously pumped’ by a very (very) poor German team that didn’t win one home game last season is somewhat galling given the ‘alleged’ abundance of quality players at our disposal. IMO Celtic shouldn’t be beaten by such an embarrassing score line in any game friendly or otherwise. NL basically gave the verbal equivalent of a shoulder shrug when asked about the result, game not important, young inexperienced players, injuries, players not returned to the squad yet! Why are we playing these games then I thought the whole object of was to get the 1st team squad into physical shape not play kids out of position. Again given they, the squad, are sportsmen with an alleged health and fitness regime set by the club if they aren’t in top physical condition whilst under contract they should have their backsides booted and wages docked, they highly paid professional athletes being overweight and unfit is not an option, returning from injury the obvious exception.

I’m sure we will have our targets, someone said last night Yossi Benyoun, he would want big money but maybe not if a couple of his muckers are up here, at 33 he might fancy a crack at the CL with us!

I am old school when it comes to preparing for competitive football, believe, like Jock Stein, that you have to get fit first, and as I pointed out last year, that is not easy to say with an Aberdeen accent. I will even expect those who take part in Stan Petrov’s Celtic charity match to be in half decent shape, and they have two months to do it. We got a footballing lesson from Ajax this time last year, were champions of Holland, but improved by the time we played Inter Milan at Celtic Park. Neil Lennon played Dylan McGeough at right back against Norwich at the end of last season, and he played him there again last night. What did he learn? That Dylan is not a right back, but surely he knew that already. It is all very well to say the games are meaningless, though not to the opposition, but if so why are they being used as marketing devices, why are they not behind closed doors. And why is Neil Lennon complaining that they are taking their toll? Most of this type of “preparation” could take place in Glasgow, and if we want to watch makeshift teams play makeshift teams, we could do that at Lennoxtown, preferably beamed live to the Drookit Dug along the road.

My main point was l want Bums on Seats..That is why l brought up the OSB..
I Don’t have Any Proposals that is Why l was going to bring it up on the Nightshirt..ie Overseas Supporters..
I am only relaying My Personal point of View..If this Was Offered 20 Years ago when l lived in Holland and could afford to fly home fortnightly it would be Awesome..
Celtic TV every Game (Because I’m out with UK AND A Seat for every home game)..
I would Like to See Celtic Supporters in the UK..that Live outside Glasgow (Say 200 Miles) or cant travel to glasgow to be able to Access Celtic TV for live Games..
You are Right You cannot please everyone and at Least Celtic FC are trying..But my Original point was to pay a Extra 10 GBP for a Nameplate ..Seat..Etc for the Extra 10GBP i would rather Celtic sold the Seat to a Youngster or Tourist for One game..

==============================================
So would I Summa so would I. In fact after the game where we clinched the title I was in the Celtic Club with a couple of supporters who had travelled up from down south and one fella, a family man who had done well for himself in life was talking being happy to pay thousands if he could watch that way rather than travel.
The problem is the footballing rules around broadcasting that stop the 3 to 5 transmission of games live but what if it were delayed transmission to say 6pm rather than midnight?Could a case be made to do this?
My attitude to these kind of fair trade restrictions is are they fair to everyone and do the circumstances that warranted their introduction still prevail?
That puts it into a campaign over time approach and apart from UEFA/FIFA’s attitude what about how the club and the support perceive support?
This discussion is on exactly that point and it is a debate that I think is well worth having because as a support we support each other via Celtic as much as we support Celtic.
How do we stop “them” and “us” thinking and become only “us”? The OST to me is but a means to that end but I’ve always been a long term thinker.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

=============================
That angle never occurred to me but the aim was to get the seat secured ie my seat that I would not use. The additionality, reduced from £60 to £10 was/is still a bonus.
What I would like to see is an OST that has enough add ons to make it attractive enough including the charity angle that it becomes the way of subscribing to Celtic TV, that it is no longer seen as watching Celtic on TV but being as much a part of Celtic as distance allows as a regular SB holder.
Change thinking and change the world.
Len Brennan @ 13:51,
Let’s hope so, there’s no confirmation of McFadden signing for Motherwell, we desperately need experience and creativity in the Team.
He’s a no-brainer for me.
Hail! Hail!
From C.S.A site.
Celtic supporters shafted with kick-off
times again.
I thought it couldn’t get any worse with
regard to kick-off times normally
associated with following Celtic FC. The
latest one to have us unfurl the league
Championship Flag at 5.15 on a
Saturday night takes a bit of beating.
I know we are in the background when it
comes to live televised football matches
in the Britain, the English Premier
League is top dog, and with the money
SKY pour into that league then it’s
understandable, it’s all about viewing
figures, but it should be about
supporters.
It is easy to see how it works in England,
more football minded people would
rather stay home and watch Manchester
United play Chelsea, than drag
themselves down to watch Wigan play
Bolton Wanderers.
But up here in Scotland, the Celtic
supporters would rather watch Celtic play
Ross County than sit in and watch the
Manchester V Chelsea match, but it
should be watched at a time that suits
the paying costumer, and I don’t think
5.15 on a Saturday night will suit the
paying costumer.
As far as Celtic are concerned the
revenue derived from live televised
matches will only be a small part of our
income, the most money will come direct
from supporters going through the
turnstiles, but how many will come at
unrealistic kick-off times like 5.15 pm.
For our first two away matches we also
face the prospect of early morning buses
again; with the Aberdeen and Dundee
United matches kicking off at 12.30 and
12.45 respectively, completely
unacceptable for the biggest travelling
support in Scotland; if not Britain.
I have written today to Neil Doncaster;
the new CEO of the SPFL, I have
expressed my concerns about the times
our matches are being staged at; I have
also expressed my concerns that the
biggest supporters groups in Scottish
Football are not consulted when future
policy is being decided. I await his reply.

Gordon J @ 14 19 .
Give them time ..
It takes time to create rules which can be exceptionally elastic when required.
5.15 kick off an ‘enhancement’ of the ole match day experience for assorted Tims and Staggies?
I’ll throw my two cents worth …. while pre-season is notoriously unreliable as a predictor of how the season will turn out, I agree with oglach (sorry, guy!) …. we should never lose 6-2 to a minor league team….
But I am less concerned about the result, and more about the preparation for next week…. yes, these games are good for fitness, …. but fitness is only one part of football … otherwise, you would just give a player a ball, and see who can run the farthest/fastest with it… football is a team game, and while there is undoubtedly a good team spirit, there is little in the way of good team football on display.
This is a concern, as many times, a good team (made of inferior players) will beat a poor team composed of better players.
While I realize that there were a lot of young players/players who had not played together before …. no one on that team really looks like they have played together …even against the Germans, they looked like a team (movement, and passing to where a player will be), while we looked like a bunch of individuals wearing the same strip (sideways, backwards, and the few forward passes were to players who were stationary, and had their backs to the goal)…..
With out players, there is no reason we shouldn’t qualify for the CL group stages, but, frankly, out style of play makes me very nervous ….
Of course, I’ve been wrong before …. I didn’t think Murray had the stones (was too negative in his play) to win a Slam …. hope I’m wrong this time again…. but I can only be wrong so many times!
Totally agree with the CSA.
Totally wipes out the whole of Saturday for anyone travelling any distance.
If they want armchair fans I’ll help, binning my 2 books next season, this will be the last.
Did Longmuir get his dodgy £100,000 pay out?

Re. PETA, my local Chinese supports them. They have a sign on their door saying “A dog is not just for Christmas!” but they spoiled it a tad, by adding, “used sparingly, the left-overs will last till Hogmanay”

Looks a good player, uses both feet also and not afraid to hit the ball either.
On McFadden I say get him signed and see what happens, we could do a lot worse, looks like he could give us a couple of years yet similar to Paul Hartley in that respect, lifelong Celt but came to us late in his career

I am unfortunate to be old enough to remember the break up of the Lions , then we sold KD and I was traumatised ( at that silly age then ) . Then we let the KOK move on and in between times other great players have left . If Victor goes he will go with my best wishes for his service to our great club , the only thing that is a constant in all the above is the support who have always been class .

Was it malicious or was he just taking the P***?
Yes it’s a massive inconvenience and without doubt is a decision that’s been taken without consideration for the travelling fans of both teams but very, very few, if any, of our other home games will be shown live on television. I’d be surprised if there’s another KO time as ridiculous as this throughout the rest of the season.
Sorry guys….anyone who says that pre-season humpings are meaningless is being short on the truth. Every Celtic supporter feels pain when this kind of thing happens.
I also think that the fitness aspect is overplayed a bit. These are prime athletes who have been away for just 3 or 4 weeks. They were probably more mentally tired than anything else. These days, they would have a diet regime and a running schedule even through the holidays.
It is not like the old days when players spent 3 months in the pub during the close season.
And while I am at it….I think we are destroying potential careers with our use of the young guns. Last season, when Dylan came back from injury, we were very short in midfield, due to injuries. Clearly, Neil didn’t trust him, as he sat on the bench regularly. A wee loan out to the likes of Hibs or Dundee Itd might have done him the world of good.
Instead, he gets put on at full back yesterday and has a torrid time in a side that had already imploded before he even got on the park.
Sometimes, we don’ look like a professional outfit…..
Rant over.
