Raith call out SFA plans for Appellate Tribunal

1262

You wonder if Ally McCoist rues the day he called for the public outing of members of the SFA Judicial Panel which imposed a player registration ban on his club.  One judge, one journalist and one football club, Raith Rovers, were soon outed.  Crossing the Fifers was a mistake.

Raith Rovers are now pointing out the same facts we have discussed here for months:

“We are also concerned that there has not as yet been an opportunity for clubs to receive legal advice from the SFL and/or debate the potential consequences on the smooth running of our league in the event that the Courts are asked to annull/strike down any of the corporate transactions that have led to the current position of Sevco Scotland Ltd as owners of certain assets of the Rangers oldco.

“Indeed, the position as regards the potential sanctions to be applied by the Scottish FA via its Appellate Tribunal has also still to be bottomed out.”

In short, Sevco’s ownership of Ibrox may be nullified by the courts and the SFA will be forced to subvert judicial oversight if it wants to guarantee Sevco participate in football next season.

While these concerns were only expressed online, the SFA were able to ignore the issue, but with Raith Rovers asking the questions Mr Regan will have to look SFL clubs in the eye and tell them what he’s going to do with Lord Carloway.

Lurgan 53

Dwyer O’Hagan, or Lurgan 53 as he was known here, passed away on Wednesday after an illness stretching back to last year.  Dwyer enjoyed our triumphs and defeats on the blog for many years and will be sadly missed by us all.  Our condolences to his family and friends.

  1. Not long back from Lurgan. Spoke to Dwyer’s son, conveyed the CQN community’s sympathies and left a mass card from ‘his friends at Celtic Quick News’.

I will try to copy all the messages as suggested and pass them to the family. Any tips on how best to do this would be appreciated.

The very importance of love, the very character of it, demands that it come with conditions. If you accept and tolerate everything and put up with anything you know what the result of unconditional love will be ?

Footprints on your back. Scuff marks on your head.

When we are witnessing a corruption of everything that is wonderful about football, that obsession which consumes so much of our lives, the notion of unconditional love belongs with unconditional trust.

We don’t have the luxury right now of either. We’re in a war.

    (Yes, I said it again.)

  4. I like Ernie and his opinions, I don’t always agree with them as I think he just says black to go against white on some occasions but we are a blog and are entitled to give our opinions without being called out all the time.

Just seen the latest ‘plan’. This Is The End.

Thought a few weeks back that they might have had a kinda rangers thing from 2013/14 season up and running, but now expect no football to be played on the land which ibrox stadium stands on ever again. (standfast back garden kick-abouts)

History will show that Green and Whyte have played an absolute blinder. They have hoodwinked every hun sympathiser into believing that they actually give a sh$$ about football. Bombardier Broon will look like he’s just swallowed 1,000 sherbet-spaceships in one go when reality strikes.

No matter what the SFL Chairmen vote this proposal for Div 1 can only pass if the SPL agree the terms and the lack of calls for removal of Doncaster and Regan make it crystal clear that there is tacit support being given to this by SPL Chairmen. They have been moved once on the situation and I am sure those who have now bought season tickets should now be applying for refunds and referring the matter to trading standards for a resolution.

I’ve said it before the remedy and the power lies with fans groups. Who knows who?

I work in the public sector and I get fed up when my well founded scepticism is ignored and someone’s pet project runs into the buffers for precisely the reasons my scepticism outlined.

There is a need for No-Men as much as for Yes-Men. Wisdom is knowing when to be agreeable and when to oppose.

If someone had the guts to tell Clive Sinclair that the C5 was madness or to tell George Bush to stay away from the Khyber Pass, less damage would have been done to both’s interests.

ernie is right to be sceptical, note that means not certain but anxious, of the Celtic Board’s intention towards a Div. 1 parachute. There has been a lot of Mood Music suggesting that Pl feels letting them re-start debt free in Div. 3 is not sufficiently punitive. I think it is a dangerous game because I would worry that any sanctions imposed on Green’s Sevco in Div. 1 may not survive challenge when the McColl/ Wattie/ SDM guys re-appear to buy Sevco, completing the circle on this whole scam.

I support CELTIC, my Grandfathers club, my Fathers club and my club without condition, I am proud of this fact.

You are a CQN heavyweight, me? – Just a supporter.

My love for Celtic is unconditional – (Yes, I said it again.)

  10. I always read ernie’s posts, they’re usually informative and eminently readable.

I don’t agree however that there haven’t been occasions when he’s been disparaging, condescending and hurtful, I’ve seen them.

However, there isn’t a poster on here who partakes in debate that hasn’t done the exact same things at some time.

  14. Good evening CQN

Ernie, some of us trust the board to make the right decision, they have made a statement they would do what is best for the club and the fans. IMO it is patently obvious with the strength of feeling amongst fans if the board done anything to support sevco entering the league system anywhere but the bottom would be entirely against most fans wishes. I believe the board fully understand this, I trust the board to act accordingly, like they did during the week. I trusted the board to do what they did during the week.

Throughout this whole Epsiode with oldco newco, Celtic have done the correct thing and not made it our story, we should continue to do so. IMO a public statement by The Celtic Board at this point would serve no purpose other than satisfy the need of a few fans who don’t trust them to do the right thing.

A month or so back many would have thought that Rangers out of the SPL and Newco not in the SPL was beyond reality and some, perhaps yourself, who suspected Celtic would vote for an SPL parachute would be proved wrong. They did not vote for it and pushed the sporting integrity agenda without drawing attention to themselves. That result along with a stripping of titles and some other forms of reparation leaving Newco weakened and not in the SPL, would have allowed most Celtic supporters to be satisfied enough not to stop being a supporter, those who actually want to be supportive that is.

I might have doubts about whether the Board wanted to keep Rangers alive in the SPL for financial reasons, but those doubts would not have stopped me attending because there would have been enough evidence with the SPL no vote that sporting integrity had won.

However the problem now is that the SFA and SPL ,by going to the lengths they have gone to to get Newco into the highest level possible in the SFL in order to shorten Newcos SPL absence, have totally undermined any semblance of credibility in their own integrity, to such an extent their continuing existence in current form is a greater threat to the games future and all its clubs than the absence of Newco .

It has gone way beyond short term finances, it has gone right to the heart of the principle on which those finances depend, trust in the football lawmakers, and using your own argument that the Celtic’s Board’s priority is finance, then by that logic they will want what everyone wants which is a credible environment to play football in. Newco in SFL1 and more important the way it is being done, totally removes any possibility of providing such an environment so Celtic will not want Newco in SFL1.

The only possible answer to restore credibility in the coming weeks is Regan, Ogilve and Doncaster step aside with temporary appointments made and an SFL2 start for Newco. if indeed they are in a position to apply.

  19. James Forrest is Neil Lennon! We are ALL Neil Lennon! on

The amazing thing about this shambles is the ping-pong effect.

Say the SFL clubs DO vote “yes” to clause 2. You know what the result is?

The SFL board will go back to the SPL clubs, and will present them with a list of “demands.” At that point the SPL will have to hold a vote and decide whether or not to accept the “offer.”

But what is the “offer” ?

To have Newco in the SPL in one season. That’s what the SPL gets. The SPL clubs have to give up powers, agree to changes, hand over money … and for what? The promise of a club called Rangers being back in a year.

How can the SFL guarantee NewCo will be back in a year?

How can SPL clubs who voted for sporting integrity then go into a meeting where they hand over all this stuff to get back the very thing their fans abhor?

If any of you think Celtic won’t have to do this all over again, you are dead wrong. Only an 8 – 4 majority can vote to change the SPL rules in the manner the SFL board will need to sell their clubs on the deal.

The SPL chairmen ARE going to have to deal with this all over again.

And once more, everyone is watching who votes how.
