Rangers in administration without tax case

1363

There are not words powerful enough to describe today’s news.  The English language is insufficient and I have no Greek or Latin.  Rangers Football Club have today asked the Court of Session to appoint an administrator, unable to service their creditors.  The freight train of their tax tribunal has yet to hit, these events relate exclusively to how the club has operated in other areas.

Scottish Premier League rules state that clubs are deducted 10 points on going into administration, which will give Celtic a 14 point lead at the top of the table once in effect.

This is a day we have predicted will come for over three years.  It has been inevitable for that long.  Now the really interesting events will happen.

We don’t need no stinkin’ Rangers.

Up the Celts!

  1. firstly on a day that they announced there intention of entering administration , meaning young players being thrown on scrapheap, bakers, butchers, printers etc not getting paid for there goods , they announce that they have signed a player on £7,500pw

    they have no morality!!!

secondly at a time when nurses , policeman, teachers and council workers are losing there jobs they have told every man, woman and child in the u.k. that they have no intention of paying there taxes

they are morally scum will the press report this — i dont think so !!!!

  2. Rangers insisted there was no alternative to the action but the club also revealed it is in talks with HM Revenue & Customs over a deal to avoid formal insolvency.

Their dispute with HMRC centres on the use of employee benefits trusts, which were in place a decade before Craig Whyte bought out Sir David Murray last May. A three-day tax tribunal concluded on January 18, with a judgment normally expected between two and eight weeks afterwards.

But Rangers admitted victory was not feasible given HMRC’s determination to succeed.

Is that ‘No Surrender’ out the window as well?

You’ll probably know more than me but my understanding was that in administration the accounts would be invalid?!

Apologies mate. I didn’t put up a link though :-)

  4. Tomcourtney, such comments were never expressed in 1994, nor should they be now.

West Wales Celt, I am extremely pleased indeed.

Árd Macha, aye, I know. The abuse came from other places too, some of which are now strong advocates of financial prudence. But, what’s gone is gone.

    Barrach Obampot, an excellent idea.

The very same thought struck me .Their twisted minds will blame it all on us and it will be like one of these zombie films where they rise from their graves and attack the human population.(In this case Tims). The authorities should be prepared for a Manchester type scenario.

  7. Well. Today has been a good day.

We’ve seen the hun play their final card with HMRC, Whyte claiming it could be 75M on the bill, Keevins and Spiers telling us all we will miss the hun and not a single word about dignity.

The teflon don remains untouched. Chico, Traynor et al refuse to even utter his name. Britney does but as he rejected the lamb then he is allowed.

If HMRC blink they will get hammered by politicians, joe public, and all radio pundits throughout the UK (except in scotland).

Go on Lizzie, tell your boys to finish the job.

The hun and their media lackeys did not mourn the possible passing of us yet seem to hold us complicit in wishing the passing of them.

Succulent lamb/Muz. These journos were openly telling everyone they were bought and paid for and many of us were too shellshocked to listen. It musn’t happen again and we are right to rejoice in the problems of a team that sought advantage, not by bending rules, but by breakng the law.

    Hell’l mend them.

This has probably been asked already tonight but with the volume of traffic I might have missed it. Does anyone expect to see a cracked crest on the front pages of our fine outstanding mainstream outlets tomorrow?

Mixed emotions tonight. Initial sheer joy has been tempered by remembering loved ones no longer with us who could only dream of a day like this. The ones who had a harder struggle than us. The ones who told us and our fathers about what Celtic stands for. The ones who seen through the sham of a football club dressed up as no more than a symbolic vehicle for sectarianism.

What I`ve been feeling, you just put into words.

    Thanks.

  11. You know what’s best about this?

That Celtic, through our own efforts and ours alone, were four points ahead already.

Great day, but whilst we all have grins from ear to ear, our cutodians need to keep their eye on the prize. The orcs are already mobilising to shape the post admin agenda: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17019291

First, the article seems keen to point out there will be “only” a 10 point deduction in the event of administration.

Second, and perhaps more concerning, the Scottish govt. has yet to wade in. I discussed this with a friend the other day: how can/will the Scottish govt use this to curry populist support? Blame an evil English exchequer for threatening the existence of a great (sic) Scottish institution? Tell the peepul this would never happen if Scotland has control of tax powers? These low lifes know no shame and would happily play the bigot card if they thought it would further their cause.

I am comforted by the fact this matter rests with the courts and HMRC, not some tinpot Scottish institution that can be manipulated by the media and MSPs. Nevertheless, eye on the pize(s) Celtic, the fight’s only just begun.

    Perhaps you can enlighten me.

Between the BBC’s apparent conviction that Rangers will survive and Whyte’s spot on SSN it would appear a confused position. People have asked about his exit strategy. Would it not go as follows?

Whyte was bagning on about CVA and trading out of administration. As far as I’m aware (although I stand to be corrected) a CVA would require HMRC as primary creditor to agree a reduced percentage of their debt. If they do then Rangers can try and trade their way out.

If they dont (and I don’t think they even want them to) then liquidation will likely follow. However, it appears from his repeated utterances that TFOD will always be around and at Ibrox (not to mention his ist charge via Wavetower) he is confident that he will retain ownership of the ground and training facilities and simply launch a phoenix company the next day.

Regardless of the “interupted” history (I can hear the spin already) I imagine the phoenix is probably his preferred option.

A club totally unburdened by historic debt, which he bought for a £1, invested nothing, and can probably sell for ??million in 5 years or so. A sweet deal. I imagine the Ticketus money has already been “paid” to a linked company. Post liquidation he can then use this to pay off the “debt” the club owes him via Wavetower. He can’t do it before then obviously as the primacy ensures his claim to the ground etc.

I’m sure one of the financial guys can correct me. Otherwise, assuming he doesn’t give a monkeys about the history of the Orc’s (and it’s fairly clear already he doesn’t) then is this not his obvious play?

Even assuming (and I just don’t beleive they’ll do it) relegation to Div 3. It wont be long before he’s in the money. If they’re parachuted straight back in, which is a distinct possibility, he could potentially sell immediately. About 18 months work for how many millions?

If you were being really cynical you might assume the person he sells to, could be a local entreprenur with previous experience in the football and steel industries?

    Cheers

    Yogi

Rangers F.C. should not be singled out as the only football club who has utilised Employee Benefit Trusts (E.B.T’s), Employer-financed Retirement Benefit Schemes (EFRBS’s) or similair schemes. Rangers F.C. is not only a business, it is a national institution, playing competitively in the national sport. If HMRC continues it’s pursuit, the real risk of administration and liquidation of this Great British institution is possible and therefore the whole of british football is at risk.

HMRC should grant the same leniency to Rangers F.C. as was shown to big businesses such as Vodafone who recently avoided paying an estimated £9 billion of tax.
