Michael Grant’s piece in The Times on the stale old Conservative (capital C) bowling club committee that’s captured Celtic is well worth 5 mins of your time. Says if there was a competition for dithering Celtic would miss the application date. Describes how pathetic the decision-making culture is, how Lennon was kept to spite the support and Ange was a pure panic move and how a guy just in the building has become the only public face of Celtic. Who knew we were lions led by donkeys?

  2. Last season we lost two goal leads away from home against both AC Milan and Lille. Lost 2, 2 and 3 in Europe so far this season so not a whole lot of progress in that department. Then again Ange has the same “defensive” coaches as Neil Lennon. That said we have scored eight goals away in Europe in the same matches so Ange getting something right. Old adage I know but we defend as a team, or not as the case. Tom Rogic gets some plaudits but not for, was it, Betis’ second goal, headed clearance Tom is not even ball watching, he is spectating, allowing the scorer first to control ball on his chest, but then wait for it to drop before shooting into the net, with our man trailing behind him. The second ball scenario. In the second half Betis found time and space down their wide left, time and time again. We lost goals in pairs, ten minutes before HT and ten minutes after. Lack of football nous. And yet, we could still have got a draw at the end of the match, so a lot of good forward movement to the last minute. Got a couple of weeks before our next EL game, and we will really need good home form to get out of this group, a win against Leverkusen will give us the confidence and belief to do so.

Ange has done an excellent job in extremely difficult circumstances. The team is a joy to watch going forward, but unless it figures out how to defend it’ll win hee haw. The main problem is in midfield, which is superb going forward, but offers no protection to the defence.

  4. Radio Scotland raised the matter of Neil Lennon and Chris Sutton being banned from Ibrox. The commenator said to Tom English it was a matter for Scottish football. English replied that it was a matter for the deid team. The commentator abruptly ended the discussion.

  5. I had a text from a neighbour saying the huns attacked the Lyon bus?

    Graffiti?

I haven’t been able to corroborate it.

    Embdy seen anything?

Last night the Ibrox club officially confirmed that it cannot guarantee the safety of media personnel within its stadium. That may be a first for any club affiliated to UEFA and surely must be addressed.

*Rangers have also banned contact with the BBC for a number of years seemingly with impunity. The broadcaster continues to cover their matches and day to day business as ‘normal’.

    …. Astounding

    ————

    JHB – indeed.

Equally astounding, or perhaps even more so, …..

Sevco’s mealy mouthed statement about complying fully with UEFA’s Broadcaster Access requirements was peddled quickly on social media last night …..

    …. by a BBC Scotland employee !!!!

  7. Let’s not get dragged into punditry debates. Lennon and Sutton can suck it. Peterlatchfordsbelly’s post above sounds the alarm bells we need to heed.

With reference to the above, I think we will find that when The Sleekit Gardener rocks up to CP for pundit duty on BT coverage of EL Matchday 2, there will be a spurious and non-specific complaint of “vile sectarian abuse” having been directed towards him.

Thus providing The Manky Mob with their supposed justification for last night.

  9. First they came for Jim Spence and I did not speak out because I was not Jim Spence

Then they came for Michael Stewart and I did not speak out because I was not Michael Stewart

    (continue as required……)

  10. The foremost duty of a director of any company is to provide a safe working environment for its employees. Failure can, in the worst circumstances, bring charges of corporate manslaughter/homicide. Below the manslaughter/homicide level is the 1974 Safety at Work Act and other supporting legislation and HSE and occupational health standards to be met. Additionally there are public liability obligations to be met to protect customers or others affected by the acts or omissions of the business.

Responsibilities extend to contractors on work premises and apply to Neil Lennon and Chris Sutton.

The directors of Rangers seemed to have taken a position that the environment over which they preside was not safe for these two people.

If the directors of Rangers are unable to provide a safe working environment for a contractor, is any of the legal people on here able to explain how this legislation, or possibly discrimination legislation as the ban on entry was applied juts to two people, would apply to this case?

    Very apt!!!

Of course we shouldn’t be surprised, it is just history repeating itself. Administration, liquidation, being skint and run by assorted spivs & comic singers had caused a hiatus in the bluenose domination of society in Scotland – normal service is being resumed – unchallenged it seems.

There has been a noticeable ramping-up of entitlement, assertiveness, triumphalism and belligerence at Ibrox since Douglas Park and his DUP media lieutenant assumed control – much more so than when King et al were at the helm – amazing what one title in ten years can do. What will we get if they win 2iar?

The BBC ban, SPFL/SFA challenges & court action, Cinch dismissal, ridicule of the SKY TV deal, and now this. Ibrox is in constant siege-mode with a monthly standing-order for aggro firmly in place.

A fine post ( but I am sure some will be critical :-)) ).

You make strong points and ask the right questions. Unfortunately they will fall on stoney-ground. Rangers, old & new, are a law unto themselves in Scotland.

  14. STEPHBHOY67,BB,Norrie- thanks for replies, i also thought our defensive line was far too high,a simple through ball past CCV ,led to a tap in,we should have set up about 25 yards out,we gave them big gaps to put balls into.

Changing subject and speaking from a largely uninformed position ….

… this doesn’t feel great to me.

Luca signed for us 2 years ago against an alleged backdrop of breaking into the first team at Bolton.

I’m all for our best young players going out on loan but surely to a higher level than Scottish League One?

And to a team that plays on an artificial pitch?

I’m sure you will be proved right. “Tit for tat” and evening up the score is par for the course and not only from the sports-desks.

The now discredited Holyrood Offending Behaviour at Football Bill was an infinitely more sinister attempt to put the “one’s as bad as the other” mantra on to the statute-book…..forever.

Hypocritical BS as always, driven by an agenda? Did you really post that?

Not an ounce of self awareness.

What a self important, arrogant dick.

How is your spreadsheet coming along?

  18. I was just thinking about how well we did under the circumstances and took a rare dip back into last season.

when we were outplayed by Sevco at CP early in the season, we had only Christie and Edouard to Covid and Jukienne and Forrest to injury I think.

Welsh played but only because we went 3-5-2. We did not have to. Klimala played but we had Ajeti and Griffiths on the bench. We sent 35m on that squad in 2019 and 2020 plus expensive loans.

All sorts of excuses were made for that performance. What we had to deal with last night with players leaving, injuries, personal reasons; on top of gelling a new team is massive in comparison.

We played good football and lost but we laid plenty of gloves on them. Manager says it builds ‘resilience’

That’s why i trust in the new project

  19. Back to basics.

Why is a player like Luca Connell on loan to Queens Park ?

Supporters think that a handful of games for a Championship side ( in this instance a deeply rotten Sunderland) guarantees a bright future at Celtic. Luca Connell’s case proves quite the opposite.

Nowhere near the first team, barring a few bench appearances will inevitably mean that the player has to get game time. staying close by in Glasgow makes good sense, where we can keep a watchful eye on the player.

Lawal, Shaw, Urhoghide, go straight into the same category, in Shaw’s case outstanding at Wednesday nowhere at Celtic. We signed Jeremy Frimpong on the basis of his outstanding performance against us in a bounce game, a lucky bounce landed us £11M.

Euan Henderson who has also gone out on loan, is very, very highly rated at Lennoxtown by all the coaches but he too, can’t get near the side.

For every Tierney there are five Luca Connells

    IMO CSC

interesting point. I have found it strange (but in a good way) that since 2012 I have been regularly coming to Glasgow for games and have not seen a blue shirt, had any comments in the street, even a snidey glance as i walk through town with my top on. Some guys head down to avoid my eyes.

On Saturday it had changed a bit. Lots of sneary looks , lads discussing my presence on the other side of the road etc. matter of time before the abuse starts.

Might have to be a bit smarter and limit my lone walking to the pub/game from now on.

I hope you are right, but I am not as opTIMistic as you.

Winning can become a habit, but so also can losing. Even at 2:0 up I never felt that the players showed belief that they could win the game, therefore I was not surprised at the eventual outcome.

We have nice individual passages and some play well, some of the time – but there is an obvious soft-centre that allows a ‘sucker-punch’ to be landed.

We need to toughen-up and I don’t think we have the right players to do that yet.

  22. Coneybhoy on 17th September 2021 11:36 am

Be careful mate they are definitely emboldened and I’m seeing lots more hun regalia in the streets than I have for the previous 10 years. The only time I got a serious kicking in my life was from huns, I was alone and there were 5 of them, thats the way they behave.

  23. PeterLatchfordsBelly

Spot on – the fact that the Hun are strong in midfield doesn’t help.
