Rogic will punish anxious Newco defence

399

While we all want to have a party on Sunday, the first priority is to win the tactical battle.  Normally, I would be anxious to control the middle of the park, but Celtic’s impressive defensive record indicates midfield may not be as crucial.

Newco were the last domestic team to score against Celtic that was not a penalty (Hearts) or a goal that even the Motherwell manager admitted his team had to subvert the rules of sportsmanship to record.

By comparison, Newco have conceded 10 since facing Celtic in December; Celtic are defensively solid, Newco are not.  If the game is tight, we should be confident of defending and hopeful of exploiting some of the defensive anxiety that Newco suffered in recent games.

Brendan Rodgers had selection problems at Ibrox in December, resorting to play Mickey Johnston as striker (unsuccessfully) and Callum McGregor as left back (to his cost elsewhere).  Neil Lennon also has selection problems for tomorrow, but of a different nature.

Dedryck Boyata will start, but I’m not sure if Kristoffer Ajer or Filip Benkovic will partner him.  Heart says Ajer (one of our own), head says Benkovic (so impressive).  I expect Jeremy Toljan to get the nod over Mikael Lustig.

James Forrest, Scott Sinclair, Odsonne Edouard, Kieran Tierney, Scott Brown and Callum McGregor will all start, leaving one midfield space available for Ewan Henderson, Tom Rogic, Olivier Burke, Mikey Johnston or, at a push, Olivier Ntcham.

Tom terrifies this team.  If he has 60 minutes in him, he should start, and if he starts, he will punish them.  If Tom is not fit, Ewan Henderson has done enough to suggest he has the craft for this occasion.

The two games between these teams this season have ended in a comprehensive 1-0 home win for each side.  This is an historic high for Newco, but you and me have missed what we were beginning to regards as customary four or five goal winning margins.  Neil Lennon will want the win most of all, but you also know the manner he would like to achieve this.

The gift of life is amazing, the gift of children is incredible. To lose the first is a sad time for those left behind to mourn. To lose the second I feel must be imbearable for the parents that see the children ripped from their hearts, Today I can only imagine that Mary and Tam McGinlay went to the same level of pain reached by Stephen and Leona Knox, when their son, Shay passed away this morning peacefully in his sleep. Yet despite this horrendous day, they both found it in their heart to thank all CQNers for their amazing support and help that they had provided their son over the last few years. Wee Shay was a Champion and a fighter just like Wee Oscar and so many others. But there is a time, when the fight comes to an end and the hero descends hopefully to a better place.

I hope the family find some solice in the fact that their son was a hero to so many around him. God Bless Mary, Tam. Myla and Wee Shay, Sleep well wee man the pain and suffering is over.

Don’t want to alarm you, and don’t think there is anything to be alarmed about, but D did say he had a wee fall last week- but nothing too serious.

I’m pretty sure he’s fine, otherwise we would have heard.

  9. RANGERS fans rushed to the club’s online store to grab a bargain today as this season’s kit prices were slashed ahead of the Old Firm derby.

The official strip, produced by Hummel, originally set fans back £60 – but was reduced to £15 with many sizes now sold out.

Im thinking XXXL and XXXXL maybe sold out?

  10. Bada…am thinking…they’re trying to squeeze as much out of the operation before Mike Ashley shut it down…in court soon…;-))

  12. Surprised at the lack of scrutiny of the whitewash report, that CFCPLC paid for, regarding the Janefield Street crush that has absolved themselves of all responsibility/liability. Make no mistake…we are nothing but customers, to be finacially squeezed, pardon the pun, by this PLC

I will rephrase … they were petrified of Brendan, am no going into the old/new shoite… it’s the same horrible follow followers so am not writing posts about semantics … treat them the way you want and don’t give a flying ffffff what anybody else thinks .. not one post on here will change my mind so why should I bother trying to influence any others … I understand liquidation but I also understand rivalry …. sometimes some might kid themselves on… am happy with my own view :-)

And I can assure you the irony is never lost… some spend more time posting about this new entity than they do about Celtic :-)

  19. GFTB…that a very concise answer…thank you…were they so petrified that they beat us last time out…nope….seems we were….forget the shoite put out later that we were sufferring a virus…unless we turn up willing and able to physically fight for each and every loose ball, and use it decisively when we have it…it will be difficult….no 4 or 5 nil scoreline will happen
