Scale of the potential leak damage

345

Celtic Park and Lennoxtown will be tense places to work today, after notes on recruitment and player sale considerations, dating from April, were photographed and distributed online.  Information like this is incredibly sensitive, will expose player recruitment to competitive pressures and can undermine confidence in the current squad.  If the leak is identified and found to be an act of carelessness, or worse, someone is likely to lose their job.

I get that information on Celtic’s recruitment plans are of interest to all of us.  It is also true that exchanging valuable information confers authority on the source.  But this is commercially sensitive information, which once public, undermines Celtic’s attempt to strengthen the team.  It is inexplicable that it was left unattended, leaked or publicised by anyone with Celtic’s interests at heart.

The scale of the potential damage of this is significant, not only for those involved.

Facts leaked or otherwise but facts …..

Lawwel will not spend more than £5 mill tops this summer.

    Continued loan duds brought in.

    9 in a row compromised.

Website getting worse by the week, jumping all over the place.

    The end.

  2. FOR ANYONE THAT’S STILL GETTING ACCESS/POP-UP ISSUES WITH THIS SITE, I’VE NOW HAD 6 MONTHS HASSLE FREE ACCESSABILITY BASED ON THE FOLLOWING THAT I POSTED LAST NOVEMBER (oops, sorry for shouting…)

“Been meaning to say (since I returned from Lanzarote), a HUGE thank you to EMERALD BEE for some fantastic advice on improving access to CQN on my phone, tablet and computer.

For anyone on a windows laptop that’s still having issues with slow loading pages, etc then what I learned was how to switch off Javascript SOLELY on the CQN page. The only downside is that with certain links that are posted you sometimes need to turn Javascript back on before the link will open. Although, right clicking on the link and choosing the ‘open link in new tab’ option often works fine.

So, to turn off Javascript on CQN (if using Chrome as your browser) then it’s –

    > Click on the 3 wee vertical dots at the top right corner of the screen

    > Click on Settings

    > Scroll down and click on Advanced

    > From the list that then appears select ‘content settings’ (or it might be ‘site settings’)

    > From the next list that appears click on Javascript

    > 3 options then appear – on the one called ‘Block’ click on ‘Add’ and then type in “www.celticquicknews.co.uk” [THIS IS PROBABLY WHERE A MOD DELETES THIS POST!!!]

And that’s it – simples! My limited understanding is that Javascript is then disabled but only on the CQN site.

Thanks again Emerald Bee. Site access on phone and laptop for the past 5 days has been ‘just like the old days’ ;-)”

    Hope that helps…..

“It’s more difficult for us to sign quality young natives of the Lowlands and Scandinavia and the leagues in this countries than Ajax.”

And it’s more difficult for Ajax to sign players than teams in England, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Portugal, but yet they still do. As I pointed out £20m spent before the window has opened.

We are told (by some) that players wait until the end of the window to assess their options. Why haven’t they done that with Ajax? Why aren’t bigger teams beating Ajax to these players?

Our wage bill is higher than Frankfurt, Sporting and just behind Benfica, but we are shopping for Jack Hendry and Marven Compper for a million each? Does that not strike you as strange?

Money talks in football, that’s why you have Brazilians in Qatar, China and Ukraine. However, our money seemingly can’t attract anyone.

  4. The Scottish cringe / Celtic cringe / SPL cringe is in full flow this morning.

All the effort goes into finding excuses for our poor performance not solutions.

CFC vs Ajax = Good fight in anyone’s books but for for the cringers / excuse mongers.

They now should be one of our benchmarks going forward.

If they can find a way / find some answers then so can we.

TV money = They are slightly ahead but both of us are dwarfed by the EPL.

We have a solution within our grasp — cancel our Sky subscriptions.

Ticket money = We are in the lead with an extra 6K seats available to sell.

We have the opportunity to rebuild the Main Stand and expand our offering.

Plus we need a fanzone / new facilities behind the JS Stand.

We are currently well behind the curve and losing revenue as a result.

Turnover = We have been lead in recent times / CL looms large and they are the 2018/19 T/O winners.

We have a solution within our grasp — big push on the CL / July and Aug 8 game crap shoot.

Wages = We have a much higher wage bill / BR got a bit flabby with the contract extensions.

We have a solution — run a much leaner squad with lower basics and much higher bonuses.

Spend more on coaching and squad support and less on 33 year olds and expensive loans.

£10K per person bonus for an SPL win should help with squad focus and engagement.

If we can’t move people on then we have being paying too much in the first place.

Player investment = They are way ahead as this is their focus rather than wages.

We have turned into a selling club and we are reaping the consequences.

We should never be aim to be a selling club full stop.

However we became that for 6 years — 2010 / 16 with PL in his pomp.

if we need to sell players to keep the lights on / pay exec bonuses then we will have failed.

As an aside — spend less on the exec level.

£2.5mill bonus is a disgrace to the support and the playing staff.

We are paying incredible money for a Tartan David Brent.

Consequently Ajax should be looking to us for good ideas not the other way round.

The players are out there — just a case that we can’t be bothered at the moment due to a lack of ambition.

All we need is leadership, focus and a growth agenda.

Unfortunately at the moment we have none of this.

If you want to suspend reality then fire away chief, not that you need any encouragement, but there is something that Celtic can do little about and that is improve the standard of the Scottish game as a whole and force a player to sign for us….the Scottish league is seen as a sideways step at best for the majority of players, a backward step for many others.

Also if we have 6k season tickets more that may amount to another £3m or so. But wait, Ajax get £10m TV money every season(more than slightly ahead of us, try 5 times) and sell their top players for multiple times what we do because they play in a better competition, so if you still can’t see how they can outbid us for players then you are in dreamland.

Lots of other great little ideas, many of which are being worked on or which we are facing roadblocks on, but a top CB from South America ain’t going to join us because he can get a beer in

a plastic cup outside the JS stand…. Money spinner yes. Ajax have a commercial dept too btw.

  6. Brandon Barker deal sounds like it’s moving. He was an exciting player at Hibs but lacked any end product. 1 goal and 4 assists in 22 games isn’t noteworthy.

His 2 assists in 16 games for Preston hardly excites either.

Question is, is he really better than Micky Johnston?

  7. I don’t know about the “Scottish cringe” but when our host-with-the-most was telling us only last week that Lennon had been appointed because he knew better than anyone else how to spend loads of our money, who knew how ambitious those plans would be?

What did we learn yesterday? What has McGowan been briefed to write today?

Brandon Barker in a “cut price deal.”

For those who think fans are the problem here, you better look again. Lennon’s appointment was the screaming, shrieking, obvious sign of what is to come … some people just did not want to see it. Brandon Barker, ladies and gentlemen, the kind of signing target that makes you appreciate the players already at the club.

The kind of signing target who makes even me appreciate Jonny Hayes.

PL level of analysis — wrong on just about every level.

Ajax TV money — less than EUR10 mill was the number for 2017/18.

They have more money but it is not transformational.

Plus we catch up in 2020.

They then will have double the money to share amongst 50% more teams.

Plus the SPL share out is weighted to the first and second in the league for some reason.

Consequently we should not be using the TV money to try and excuse our failure.

As noted our T/O figures have been higher in the past so we have no excuse.

Plus we are behind the curve regarding fan facilities and we need to catch up.

They have a business model that works while we have a business model that doesn’t — all it does is pay a suit a very good wage well beyond his capabilities and keeps an absentee landlord happy at night. The football side of things comes second.

And even as I write this, we catch a glimpse of where the money is going … not on hotels or fan zones but on a massive, I’m certain expensive, and un-necessary extension to BARROWFIELD when we have a major training centre already …

Please concentrate on the T/O and wages aspect — where we have been in the lead.

  15. JF @ 1.10

Haven’t seen the plans and they will probably be a porta-cabin with some tinsel but we should be improving our facilities at Barrowfield for a much more comprehensive local youth set up.

In fact we should be spending more on a full size indoor pitch — pretty big money but affordable in the context of disco lights and PL’s long term bonus.

  21. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

@ FOOL TIME WHISTLE on 5TH JUNE 2019 1:20 PM

I think most certain people on here are concerned that not enough focus is placed on the improvement of, and investment in, the team.

People (not to speak on their behalf) want to see a bit more ambition and pushing on. We have received record transfer fees of late and have made record profit, but between the leaked document, transfer rumours and etims (amongst other Celtic sites), the inference is that we are tightening our belt and signing players that, frankly, Sevco would be looking at.

  22. Ach, you know what? Even discussing this with some of you is a waste of time, effort and energy.

Last season, we spent millions on disco lights, most of us swallowed it because we assumed there was a big plan for the first team squad, and instead we got the Summer of No Love.

We’ve just appointed Neil Lennon as manager, an out of work boss who’s last gig was being sacked at Hibs. The transfer plans which we were told were going to be major have leaked and they were major, a major let-down but not unexpected in the context of the managerial decision.

And here we are building a second Big Shiny Thing to “compliment” the Big Shiny Thing we’ve already got, and which costs us millions every year to keep running.

Haha! What’s the point in questioning our decision making? Some will defend this board if they want to invest in disco lights all over again this year, as the squad makes do with loanees.

Some of you just don’t want to see it, and I’m not going to convince you.

  23. T88 @ 1.26

Stick with the main issue — our published T/O is higher than Ajax.

They are a great comparitor to work out how well we are being managed.

One of many but they show hat can be achieved.

That is the situation regarding the recent past.

2018/19 might be different as the CL looms large for both clubs.

    We need solutions not excuses.

They buy big and pay small — people move on as a result which has its own challenges.

We buy small and pay big in comparison — people can hang around beyond their welcome.

  24. JF @ 1.23

We do not have a full size indoor training pitch at L/town — the budget of that facility would not seem to be a paragon for value for money and efficiency.

Consequently a huge fail for a team with our winter weather conditions.

The Barrowfield proposal would seem to be six new changing rooms and associated facilities to support the pitches we have there. Re-location and renewal rather than replicating L/town.

  30. If the club is to re-develop Barrowfield, could it be because they are plan to shut down Lennoxtown? Lennoxtown looks pretty impressive but I well remember someone questioning the sense of locating to a place where the weather is often pretty bad (even by West of Scotland standards) because of its openness to the elements and proximity to the Campsie hills. Also, I have heard there are problems with the conditions of the pitches which are either heavy with rain-water or hard and dry due to the high winds. Are these a factor in the high number of injuries our players suffer? I can see no other obvious reason for spending significant money on Barrowfield.
