Social cost of Scots exclusion

1522

You want to know the real social cost of Scottish football’s exclusion from the league structure England and Wales share?  It’s the lack of pitches, nets, strips, balls and coaching certifications that the £1bn bounty, promised by the Barclay’s Premier League last night to the grassroots game.

£1bn to the grassroots is a huge sum.  It dwarfs what taxpayers can afford and will provide a series of benefits our kids and amateur players are denied.

If we’re part of the UK, we should be part of the UK’s commercial opportunities.  Every youth team in the land are excluded because of the actions of a cartel.

What are the SFA doing about it?  Nothing.  Their plans don’t seem to require world-class youth facilities.

  1. Random question, but hopefully a good place to ask –

How does Irish Pot Still whiskey compare with Scotch Single Malt?

Not so much which is better, but what are the differences? I have never tried Irish whiskey before.

    Cheers.

Well they seem to have done a great job in looking after it. I was interested to read that it was once referred to as Edinburgh’s “Sistine Chapel” and even more interested to find out that much of the art that helped give it that name, was by Phoebe Ann Traquair, (nee Moss) who was originally from outside Dublin, and completed her works in the 1890s. Sound like it is well worth a visit.

  5. Evening all, i know that we all struggle with these international breaks however it has allowed a range of subjects to be debated on here. There have been a few dark events discussed.

However I’d like to offer something different – hope. This is a time of year that will be forever special to me, a week tomorrow an eclectic bunch of people will journey to Lourdes with the HCPT.

To embark on a week of fun, laughter and tears, I have been privileged to have experinced this from both the perspective of one who was taken out as one of the young adults (sick) and many years as an helper. Despite the destination and the undoubted religious connection, this is truly a universal organisation that simply would not exist without the support of non Catholics, the old and young generations, people of various colours and sexual orintations.

It truly demonstrates the rich tapestry of life, and our base instinct to protect to heal and nurture. So while we may dispare at recent events and struggle to absorb them, mourn at where our politics may or may not lead us. Remember there is far more in this world that works for good. Good luck to all those who make the journey next week. Well done to all the zip liners today. To anyone lucky enough to be heading out to that special place next week say hello to the lady with flowers on her feet for me.

I’ve been to Mansfield Traquair a few times.

For those who have never visited its a former church now converted into a venue.

It’s quite similar to Landsdowne Parish Church on Gt Western Rd or a nigger version of Oran Mor

What I am not sure about, is if there is a link to Traquair House, which has a wonderful history, particularly during the Jacobite period and links to the Stuart family ….as opposed to the Stewart family :-)

I only mentioned trying to cut down costs by moving to the best County in Ireland. And maybe coming to Dublin on Easter Sunday.

Roy, what really makes that picture really better is the scene of jubilation in the Celtic end.

The cloud of black dust rising anytime we scored on a hot day at Hampden was one of my abiding memories of the old no cover Celtic end.

Clashcitybhoy, simple mistake to make keing a n instead of b.

I made the mistake of replying to Alfie Noakes once and typed b instead of n in his surname.

    I understand that of course

Easy to sit on the sidelines and snipe. …

    But….

As I understand it the hootenanny is a more informal get together than the Cqn 16, trying to organise hotels etc is very difficult especially at easter 16

Interesting question re the Traquair connections. I am guessing there are the family connections, but wonder if it is more recognition of the works of Phoebe Anna herself.

  20. Roy Croppie good photos of the front of the main stand .pity they didn’t keep it that way.instead of the one we have.now.I think it does nothing to the rest of the stadium. .

Roy, revelling in the the horribles’ agony of us scoring against them is not shameful, it’s a must lol.
