Some things are more important

I know we are in the middle of a storm with the prospect of the San Siro, not to mention St Johnstone ahead.  I also know the only thing you want to read or write about is how we are going to resolve our problems, but there is more to Celtic than football, specifically the Foundation.

The history poverty is clear, the poor suffer more from an economic crisis than anyone.  2020 has been a terrible year to be poor and many more people are now poor than a year ago.  Your Foundation stepped in early in the crisis and continues to work on our behalf.  There has been practically no fundraising this year: no badge day, no bucket collection or Ghirls for Good.

The Sleep Out, which takes place each winter, goes ahead on Friday night as Stay Up for the Champions.  You can participate from your home, details here.  If that is not possible, you can help in other ways here.

We are so much more than just a football club, the Foundation is evidence of that.

We’re launching Celtic: Fifty Flags Plus One, an anthology of how Celtic won each of their league titles today.  Starting with our first title in 1893, it details how Willie Maley brought consistent glory, then the sparse successes over four decades before Jock Stein arrived in 1965 and the more contemporary wins since.

It will rekindle memories you had forgotten and give insight into how the leagues were won.

  1. Maybe this is the dreaded vote of confidence.

I think if we take a thumping in Milan, Neil Lennon will go.

Desmond can release him after his “another chance”, make it look like he didn’t sack him because of crowd pressure and save a bit of face.

Childish way to run a football club but here we are.

  2. GREENPINATA

Christie is on record as saying he wants a fresh challenge yet the manager in charge plays him every week.

Any player who doesn’t want to play for Celtic should be left out.

The manager is not only poor, he is weak.

Who wants a manager with those traits?

    Aye………….us.

    Help ma boab!

Just Peter’s way of showing how big the chasm is between us and them . Sorry Peter , you pitched that fine rhetoric a little too low .

    You’re speaking to grown ups.

  4. Scott Brown: “we need to work harder for the manager”

Does that suggest they haven’t been working hard enough up to now?

  5. I don’t expect anything other than a defeat on Thursday.

If we lose on Sunday I don’t expect the board to bother their arse.

And Lenny will tell us again he can turn it around.

Yep I see the similarities – but our view is consistent

How to lose from a position of strength !!!!!

i do not expect to win the league forever more

The Hun was never going to go away

My frustration comes from not getting 10

    PL asleep at the wheel

For all his achievements – and in fairness he has a few – he could produce a cure for cancer – but he will still be known as the guy that lost the 10 – a poor legacy

It will take some defence of PL to get me to change my view

BTW even the Huns can’t believe it

  7. Whatever your thoughts on the billionaire and the multi millionaire, they are not idiots.

There is no suitable candidate ready, able and willing to take the helm. On balance, the least worst option is sticking with what we have.

A few months back, Slippy said he’d only have people who want to play for the club. How we laughed at the rookie’s man-management skills as he threw his players under the bus and benched his biggest asset – probably to the anger of the money-men who were hoping to shift him in the window.

Fast forward a few months, NL comes out and says certain players don’t want to be here but still plays them every week for ninety minutes.

The game was up after his Ferencvaros interview if not the game itself…

That should probably be around mid February.

Yep I agree – the bigger issue is why is there no one that wants to manage Celtic

No one wants to work with PL

And that is the real issue

    Have to say, I agree.

Nothin easy here. I thought Gordon StrChan could steady things but dobt think he could make enough impact to grab the lead in the league.

  13. Patronising wishy washy statement from the overfed bureaucrats.

They’ve had it too easy for too long. Time to feel some pressure.

  14. Philbhoy.

It’s just a matter of timing when Neil Lennon will depart.

If anything he has been far too loyal ( Can I use that word on here ) to players like Christie. It is farcical how Christie is allowed to squander dead balls.

I accept that NFL must take the blame as manager, but there are many others equally culpable.eg John Kennedy, Stevie Woods, Nicky Hammond. etc.

I sincerely hope Neil fully utilises his squad against Milan and publicly drops the underperforming, underachieving big money flops.

I will be watching hoping for a Celtic win I will not be watching hoping for a Celtic performance and result that I can berate the manager with.

I wonder if that would be a unanimous view on here.??????????

Anyway, cheers, stay safe and HH.

  15. We have debated on these pages for weeks with names ranging from Malky McKay (shudder) to Pochettino (£8.5 million per anum to do nothing).

Whilst some candidates have merits, what’s clear is there is no stand out candidate.

that may will change over the festive period

  16. 67 European Cup Winners on

I applaud PL for getting a message out

For clarity I am not changing my view – I believe PL is a big part of the problem

But the message is pathetic “Together we have faced unique difficulties in the early part of the season”

So has every other team on planet earth – so it is not unique to Celtic

Peter thank you for making an effort – but it’s pretty pathetic

  17. Why not ask Wenger?

He’s not managing a club at the moment (I think)

No reaso why we cant afford him if we get rid of…

    Duffy

    Bayo

    Shved

    Soro

    Christie

    Turnbull

and all those other players someone listed yesterday.

Easily affordable and surely canny be any worse………………………

  18. Apathy is a very very hard thing to shake.

The situation and decisions that have been made this week [and last] will go down in history as confirming that we are no longer the big club we used to be.

Of course I blame the manager for not really being very good at his job.His coaching set certainly aint good at their job…and the players have been slightly above useless all season long.

But the real poison at Celtic Park are the chief executive and the major shareholder.

They have decided to take on their customers [us]…..This will not end well for anyone.

All they had to do was change a manager who had lost his way.

It happens all the time in football……but of course it would have involved a bit of self reflection that neither of them are ready to face right now….Far better to peddle the entitled supporters mainstream media guff.

I will not be doing my xmas superstore spend this week…I will not be giving this shower any of my money until I feel that us supporters are valued again….

  19. The number of times Fraser foster saved us last season was quite remarkable. The number of chances teams had against us last season was shocking. THIS WAS OUR INDICATOR!

Not only did we fail to replace GK position, more importantly we failed to get the players in to stop chances from being created against us in the first place. We simply don’t have/select the players CAPABLE of defending.

Welsh , Soro , Luca need a chance – stop playing the luxury players like Ntcham and Rogic

  21. we can talk all day about turning it around – together in the face of adversity – we just don’t have the ammo in the teams Lennon picks!

  22. lennie the man who has had bullets sent to him in the post, bomb threats, been

beaten unconcious, his car with a child in it being targetted by two student

doctors numerous other attacts as well. Then we get a moron saying if he

cared about Celtic he should resign. Whatever happened to

WE ARE ALL NEIL LENNON ?

  23. PHILBHOY- Turnbull hasn’t had a chance, and part of the problem is the team is stale,NL doesn’t like playing youngsters.

  24. GERRY123 on 1ST DECEMBER 2020 8:09 PM

He should have resigned because he is no longer able to manage his team positively .

To bring up the other stuff and use it as a stick to beat celtic fans who want a better football team is the stuff of a low morals

  25. Adi- either Strachan has said no,I think he would have been Lawwell’s first phone call, or he will be in on Friday morning.
