The Patrick and Leigh Show

782

Whenever Leigh Griffiths and Patrick Roberts were on the ball last night, Lincoln Red Imps sensed danger. Both could control instantly, control with little space and disorientate defenders. Leigh and Patrick aside, the rest had an excellent first half. Passing was crisp, accurate and fast.

The shape of the team, with variously Lustig, Brown, Tierney and Shevchenko operating in a moveable back three, allowed players to find space between Red Imps’ 5-4-1.

These games are not about impressing anyone, they are about getting into the next round, but the tie was over by halftime, allowing Celtic to step the pace down, and Red Imps to show that they were more than they appeared to be in the first half.

Stiffer tests lie ahead, when more will need to perform at the levels of Patrick and Leigh.

    Re. Efe

There is group think, such as that which exists at Ibrox, and then there is consensus on the abilities of a footballer, such as Efe.

The difference is…we really want him to succeed. We had no preconceived bias toward him due to his background. But you can’t argue with the evidence.

  2. According to a thread on HB there’s a rumour that we are signing Callum Paterson from Hearts in swap deal with GMS. Probably nonesense but would be a good signing if true.

I have no idea, just asking a question?

  7. Just about every newspaper in Scotland is losing circulation, including the Scotsman. Their primary aim is to write articles appealing to their perceived demographic. On football matters, that means doing down Celtic at each and every opportunity (or simply making up their own nonsense, like that exposed by ZBYSZEK).

  8. Aye times have changed.

I think so, but my point was about Efe and that our opinions on him are based on his football abilities and nothing more.

I remember his debut in the League Cup(vs Raith Rovers IIRC) which he strolled through brilliantly in front of the back 4 but just near the end there were the first lapses in concentration.

Maybe he can reinvent himself but it won’t be at CP I don’t think,

While I don’t disagree that we should have had at least one before the deadline, it’s worth remembering that we can swap a player out of the submitted squad for a new one until 11pm the night before the game.

  14. Weeminger

I believe James covered that with his wildcard mention.

Yip wildcard. Will we see a wildcard?

    Will we?

For a guy who once or twice or thrice stated he paid no attention to Celtic he for sure seems pretty obsessed with us right now. :-]

    Btw…

Aren’t wild cards usually knaves or jokers?

    Just asking…

  18. MOONBEAMS & WEEMINGER:

We fly out Monday night, so the “wildcard” signing would need to be made by then if he’s to play in the match. And would you or I fancy putting a guy into the team who hadn’t trained with his team-mates, who’d barely met them, who’d come up to Scotland, signed and then literally had to pack his bags before the ink was even dry on the contracts?

It’s a non-starter. Even with the best will in the world the guy would play in the second leg only.

The people above the manager have screwed him.

There’s probably a nicer way to put that but I’m in no mood for it today.

  19. If we didn’t get a signing it’s because either the player, the club he plays for, or CFC didn’t like the deal, what the feck part of this do people not get, ok so the club are doing this on purpose? Gimmi a break ffs, if it suits the player, the club he plays for, and CFC, then that’s when we will have a new signing, and not until then, and certainly to suit malcontents from moaning about it, when and if the club do sign a player? Trust me it’ll be the same old predictable suspects moaning abut the new player signed, and of course the predictable PL signing, pain in the arse the lot of them, thank feck they don’t go to the games. But you all knew that right?

  20. Mr No Mark excuse

I believe we understand that, although we question the part “Celtic did not like the deal”. I’d replace that with ‘It does not fir Peter’s personal bonus target structure’.
