The players, the manager and the board

503

Celtic controlled the first half at Easter Road without really troubling Hibernian.  That control shattered when Nir Bitton and, more culpably, Scott Brown, combined to concede an unnecessary foul then penalty.  The subsequent lack of urgency to follow Scott Bain’s save and daydreaming at the second Hibs goal was typical Celtic season 2020-21.

You were not surprised at the outcome.  Before the game I wrote a piece on Newco’s accounts (it is important and I will pick it up during the week) but I knew when I was writing it there was a more than decent chance we would have to address this matter instead.

The players have first responsibility to resolve matters, then the manager, then the board.  Doubtless there have been several iterations of attempted fixes, but none have been effective. It is not too late to rescue our season but it will be soon.

  1. can anyone explain why our centre forward griff was taking a free kick just inside their half with nearly the last kick of the ball yesterday, he’s a centre forward for goodness sake, get into the b****y box and do what you do best.

It’s heartening to know that so many people in the UK are anxious about having a proper Christmas celebration. Didn’t realise so many wanted to attend Church services.

  3. We are hurting and there will be a clear-out of players and a change of management at the end of the season .

The board need to be careful they don’t empty the stands as well.

  4. Gene, church numbers / attendees, dropped to 20 from today in Scottish level 4 areas

We booked our place for Christmas mass, 2 weeks ago

How can the BBC announce on the sports news, that an 8 year old club

Has had its best start to a season in 53 years

Has 2012 and liquidation now been wiped off all legal papers ???

  6. Norriem

We have churches open for private prayer only – hopefully back to Mass after 2nd Dec ,- with social distancing probably a max of 37

Because he’s the only one who can hit anything close to resembling a decent dead-ball.

    Sad but true.

When trump pointed at the BBC and said fake news – he wasn’t wrong. ,

The only time I’ve ever agreed with him

Glad you have joined the smart posters who were calling for a change of manager months ago, you know the ones who could see this was primarily a coaching issue and that our situation would only get worse. I think we used the analogy of a slow car crash. Better late than never to reality, although a change after not a shot on target against Sevco might have had us 4 points closer to Sevco.

Now I wonder (not really) if you’ll be man enough to apologise to those posters who had a grasp of our situation which you derided.

You could start with Big Wavy you certainly owe him an apology.

    Welcome to reality though.

Shaun has a whole lot going for him, as a coach, but he will never manage Celtic Football Club

any more than Wayne Rooney will manage Manchester United

  11. agree that I don’t think we have reached rock bottom yet and sadly can’t see any light at the end of the tunnel, not with this current regime.. we should have bought Ivan Toney and kept CG in goal.

Cross from free kick went to Laxalt.

When we had 3 centre halfs in the box.

Just like the free kick against the hun las December when he tried to score from near the corner flag

  13. I think JK was being prepared to take over with Maloney assisting, wont happen now far too many mistakes.

We need experience a tactician and a development coach maybe not in the one person though, we also need to look at our fitness and conditioning which looks suspect.

  14. How it has taken so many posters so long to realise that Lennons time is up is beyond me.

How it has taken so many posters so long to realise that Lennons time is up is beyond me.

We all have our favourites and many on here think that because of what Lennon has gone through he deserves to be cut some slack.

I’m sure that a few also genuinely believe he can turn this around as well and I respect their right to think that.

I have said from the day that Lennon was appointed that it would end in tears, I’m sorry it’s going that way…

Was involved in three key matches last season, all semi-finals I think, lost them all.

Has won one league game at home this season, against a bottom of the league team, and had some luck there too. Had some great results, no question, but can you see MU challenging for the title this season?

I wasn’t suggesting that he should be cut any slack just that some posters on here really are blind to his failings due to their loyalty to him.

He should have been allowed to finish the rat’s job and then be replaced by a manager of similar stature.

But of course our board don’t think like that….

  20. Hail Hail Folks.

Hail Hail 67 on Youtube made a good suggestion about who we should approach to replace

NFL/JK/Young Strachan/Nick Hammond/Keep Stevie Woods The Goal Keeper Coach yeah?

Anyway Hail Hail 67 suggest’s Dan Petrescu which is not a bad shout @ all.

Lets be honest here Folks, NFL is a yesterday Man/Manager. He has been a great Servant

for our Club, however it’s time that he steps aside, & lets someone come in, too take our

Great Club Forward, not back the way, & Dan Petrescu, could be the right fellow, who can

do this, & also fits the bill. Sadly NFL who was not allowed by the Board to bring in his own

Backroom Staff according to JPD on ACSTOM. NFL has become a ‘Yes’ Man, & he has certainly

lost the Dressing Room. Out of the last eight matches we have only won two & we have

conceeded a lot of goals @ the back is nightmare material, also this Season so far, has also

been littered with, nightmare performance as well. With struggling to beet teams, & turning

out performances, which are papering over the cracks, with the next slip up, just around the

next match corner, is totally unacceptable. FFS, we all pay top dollar in Coldland, to watch this

show, compared to what the other Club’s, including Sevco, Supporters pay for their Season

Card each Season. The Board will need to get their act together asap, or not only will we be

waving bye-bye to 10IAR, which has now become an uphill journey, well hope is a small letter

word, which has a big meanning. But also, I would not imagine, their will be a big uplift of

Season Card Renewals next Season, if the Board thinks it’s wise, to leave things the way we

are @ present, when it’s blatently obvious, it’s not.

This season is one third complete and doesn’t compare to the above disasters.

    Not even close.

Criticism is warranted for a clear drop in standards.

Concern that those who’ve been on duty during that drop aren’t equipped to oversee those standards rising significantly and VERY quickly?

    Fully justified.

Not saying he’d be my choice but why is Maloney managing Celtic not feasible?

  24. Looks like from Paul’s leader today that not only have the fans woke to Lennons deficiencies (I do love him as a man and a leader, but his race has been run) but DD has also woke

Whether its this week or after the Europa game on Thursday, I expect a new management team

When we have needed it we have got people like O’Neil, Strachan and Rogers (the rat)

As this season, amongst the last 10 is so so fooking important

I expect and demand a big hitter

Anything else and the fans will walk, and I include myself in that too

For one he has never managed a club. And while a strong personality is not enough in itself, it is also an important factor.

  27. CELTIC MAC on 22ND NOVEMBER 2020 8:43 PM

True but neither had Slippy, Lennon (first stint) or Zidane.

Again, I’m not saying he’d be my choice at all but he’s currently coaching the world’s number one team and getting a rise from the likes of Lukaku and De Bruyne. I still think in terms of coaching, tactics and fitness he’d be a step-up from what we have.

    Maybe a future number 2?
