The Poste’ always delivers

484

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone, prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone, the time has come.  Ange Postecoglou is officially Celtic manager.  It has been a long wait but consistent with Celtic’s typical managerial appointment times (Neil Lennon first got the job on 9 June 2010, despite already being in temp position).

The chapter of our history on Angelos Postecoglou now begins.  I’m only slightly annoyed they didn’t announce it at noon…..  Ange has delivered success beyond expectation wherever he goes.  That will be difficult to achieve at Celtic, where expectations are stratospheric, but hope in our hearts, and all that.

Strap in, it’s going to be a blast.  Best of luck, Ange.

Somebody was on late last night saying this place is now rubbidge and that those wanting Celtic chat should go visit Sentinel Celts where “all the good CQN posters have gone”.

Those of the ‘happy clapper’ persuasion on here maybe shouldn’t do so today ….

  2. FAO GENE and SQUIRE DANAHER..

Cheers Bhoys. Ive to have blood Tests on Monday at my local health centre.

I MAY also have to ask for Painkillers and/or injections for my back…I can hardly walk 10 yards for the last few weeks…although when I WAS in my local pub last Saturday and Monday….I SOMEHOW managed to lift Pints of Beer to my lips…

    Funny that !

    LOL

Welcome Ange & I wish you the best of fortune.

I hope you bring someone you know as part of your backroom staff because that may be key to your success.

We are a moribund organisation that needs an injection of something to shake us out of the state of lethargy. Your reputation suggests that you may be just what we need.

“Getting us back to where we should be” – I liked that.

    ……………………..

I agree completely. Ange will need a person/people around him that he is comfortable with and feels he can trust. I liked what Ange had to say too so did my wife :-)). Here’s hoping he gets his own staff and gets Celtic back to winning ways.

  4. Reading some of the stuff about Ange on BBC.

Pat Bonner is correct to say there is an element of risk – of course there is, just like there would be with ANY new manager.

Somebody called Natasha Miekle from something called the Celtic State Of Mind podcast says “every result that goes wrong, every point that is dropped will be scrutinised through the lens of “what could Eddie Howe have done”. Utter poppycock – EH refused to come to Celtic, he never contributed anything to Celtic – he defines nothing about Celtic, and comparisons to what he done at Bournemouth are completely baseless.

Ange is taking a huge step, I respect him for that. He comes accross as his own man who takes no nonsense.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man!

    Welcome to Celtic, Ange, HH

Maybe he’ll announce that he’s chosen his own staff, and that they are Kennedy and Strachan.

Why would BBC Scotland sport have P McStay’s number ?

Nothing but a nest of Hunnery. Bonner the Token Tim too thick to realise he’s a box tick.

If the population of their production room are all ex-Huns it’s hardly a surprise they dig up more Huns.

Depending on what your blood tests are for – and that’s none of my business – if your blood is too thick then a wee 🍻 tomorrow would thin the blood down for testing on Monday.

    Just sayin……

  8. Welcome to Celtic Ange!

Now the club really needs to get behind him.

As in he needs a good squad to coach.

And hopefully a ground full of supporters to give the Bhoy and the Bhoys a cheer

  10. Huge welcome to our new manager.

I had no knowledge of Dr Jo or Wim Jansen but had followed John Barnes’ every deft touch – so I know not to jump to negative conclusions based on my familiarity with a candidate.

This doesn’t absolve the board of their culpability nor, hugely relevant going forward, their responsibility to give the new man the resources and independence to act that he’ll need to be a success.

SkySports review of required rebuild is an

Interesting read. Not because I agree – I most certainly don’t – but because it so highlights the subtle reframing of narrative.

    1. ‘More wholesome, less blinkered vision’ than pursuing the 10. Really? How many of us argued that pursuing success in Europe and success in Scotland were mutually supportive….

    2. Hammond nicely put under the bus…

“In a wider perspective, this is an opportune moment for Celtic to reset. The obsession of reaching the fabled landmark of 10-in-a-row held the club back in recent years; after a season like no other, Postecoglou’s arrival, coupled with changes higher up, allow Celtic to take stock and then move forward with a more wholesome, less blinkered vision.

The complete overhaul of Celtic’s entire football department is now beginning to crystallize. Neil Lennon’s exit in February was followed by that of head of football operations Nick Hammond in March, the man responsible for much of the recruitment over the last two seasons.“

  11. Just watched Chris McLaughlin (supposedly Celtic inclined) on BBC Scotland. He has obviously been got at by his bosses. He mentioned that our new manager was the second choice after Howe. Then he went on to say that the support wanted someone with European experience. Howe has none, as far as I know. Any drivel to do us down.

Personally, as bad as BBC Scotland’s spots department is with regard to us, I don’t think they’re the worst. At least Michael Stewart and Willie Miller give us our due.

  12. SQUIRE DANAHER on 10TH JUNE 2021 11:58 AM

Big big difference in the approach in London with a population double that of Scotland and TWENTY times bigger than Glasgow.

For the opening fixtures against Croatia (13 June) and Scotland (18 June), only 750 socially distanced key workers will attend the event in Trafalgar Sq, made up of NHS and London Ambulance Service staff, police officers and those who work on public transport.

Only if lockdown measures are lifted completely on 21 June will the capacity be raised.

Anyway this “what about the English” mantra that keeps being trotted out is totally meaningless. Scotland is the most powerful devolved administration in the world – it has to make its own decisions and stand by them – but these decisions must be based on hard evidence and the safety of the population, not as an excuse for flag-waving and shouting (drunkenly) “wha’s like us”….the tartan version of “we are the people”

    agree re Michael Stewart…….

I can’t remember any detailed questioning of Slippy’s managing credentials at his appointment.

Just a litany of heroics around his playing career……….

One rule for thems, and Open Season on us and Celtica…….

While I’m against banning media outlets – I’d never criticise us for banning Shortie or the rectum……..

It wouldn’t make any difference to the koverage we get imo.

So Lowball says they have known about Postecoglou for a number of years and has been prominent in our thoughts for some time?

Pity they didn’t bring him in two years ago…..

Meanwhile Postecoglou says he likes the club’s new modern vision!

Would love to know what that is! Obviously you would hope that McKay would have a more progressive vision than Lowball ever had, but if the big cheese is still the one calling the shots then it’s difficult to imagine that it won’t still be very much centred around old firmery.

St Stivs- self appointed sniper to the Celtic Board. Can’t stand reading criticism of Celtic Board without firing back his sarcastic snipes. Sad really.

    ————

sorry it gets you that way.

I dont mind criticism of the board, or the set up , or the staff, or how someone is performing, or even how the business performs. I do however feel the vitriol and personal attacks go beyond the pale, and also the stuff on Peter Lawwells renumaration package has been done to death. Nothing changes by people typing angry words.

I do find the North Curve 100+ banners all very father ted-ish. See when you have to explain who the banner is, I think it lost all effectiveness (this is Tom Alison).

There are days the board are not even in the building, so what is the point of the protest ? who do they move on to now, Dom McKay, Ange, John Kennedy ?

  17. Chris McLaughlin…….

Celtic- minded?? On what basis?? His surname, perhaps, but no evidence as far as his output would suggest.

  19. Jamesgang,

Imo, while the content of what he said might have been correct, it was the way it was presented, There was no need to be totally negative. STV has had a succinct mention of who the new manager was and his reaction to the opportunity to become our manager.

I think I am right in saying that CM is a Celtic supporter but he has had to “behave himself” as he is the reason the BBC is banned from Ibrox.

  20. Andy Patons Mullet on

All the best to our new manager. Fingers crossed he is as strong on his principles as we have read from various sources better educated on the man than most of us. Get torn in, put the huns back in their box and a good run in Europe will do me for the first season :)

It appears racist stereotyping is now all the rage on CQN.

Particularly from one who forever warns us all about ethnic cleansing.

Can’t really say what I want to say right now because it will get deleted but this individual is a cancer on this blog.

  23. Welcome to Celtic Ange.

This guy is making a massive commitment to Celtic, moving his family from the other side of the world to take on the role. For me, that says a lot about his energy, motivation and desire to be successful. He will need some time to get settled in and get his backroom figured out. Let’s give him that and get behind him. He’s going to need our support. It’s not going to be tumultuous first few months.

  24. BABASONICOS71 on

Best of luck to Ange. Be interesting, at least.

Not giving the BBC your click/viewing figure is a better way of fomenting change rather than tuning in & complaining about it constantly. I wouldn’t regularly visit someone who spent most of their time running me down or lying about me. Maybe some folk just like something to piss & moan about.

I do totally agree that the ‘how’ of tone & nuance are so vital in framing the story & audience reaction.

For the Celtic cricket fans from an older generation… 🇦🇺 Ange Postecoglou taking the Celtic job in the current situation is like being sent out to bat against Jeff Thomson and Dennis Lillee without pads, helmet, gloves and a box…
