There is a team in this squad but defending for buttons

895

Of all the football nonsense, I hate scapegoating most.  So Ryan, I’m sorry, but what on earth were you doing?  We were 0-2 ahead and had created several other very good chances.  Milan were nowhere, they had not mustered a cohesive attack. That foul was conceded in the perfect spot for a free kick taker; you could read the script on how momentum would switch the moment it was awarded.

Attackers are primarily there to exploit opponents weaknesses, Tom Rogic, Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie combined to do this and put Celtic two ahead in the San Siro.  Tom came close on another occasion, Callum McGregor had a gilt-edged chance and having got himself into the perfect position, Jeremie Frimpong froze with Milan at his mercy.  We could have been out of sight.

There is a team in this squad.  The formation looked right.  Frimpong seemed liberated from his normal wide anchor, Rogic worried defenders before tiring; in particular, I was impressed by the way the ball was accurately bulleted across the field.

Oh, and we cannot defend for buttons.  I was chastised by a 16-year-old after the game for talking up the relative merits of this performance compared to Ross County.  Apparently there is a rulebook for defending two goal leads away to tier one teams, you defend like Ross County and close the game out.  But we don’t know how to defend like Ross County.  Imagine that!

What I will say is, they fought for their manager last night, Commando Christie in particular.

  1. Has anyone had a phone call regarding a illegal inforcement tax regarding national insurance number. It was a number from London

  2. Pretty fair summation of what went down last night P67.

While agreeing w UNCLE JIMMY and NORRIE on improvements, we eventually got what ‘patchy’ gets you.

Watched the game + highlights: we hustled hard to be worth our lead. Which surprises everyone (inc AC Milan)

But the powder-puff defending (in our mids as well as our backline) continually invites trouble in.

We are physically small and weak across that line; we prefer finesse and footwork over grit and graft – so we’re allowing waves of pressure to hit our backline and – watch the post goal remonstrating – communication is non existent. Elhamed – a guy who arrived like a lion – currently has the tackling technique of a ballerina. He and Frimpers (as lightweight as Mikey J btw) do not see eye to eye on roles or linkup.

Bitton and Brown – not perfect – were our best. Diago’s head is dropping with the stuttering run of form.

Come back Craig, Jozo and Sinky – all is forgiven!!

    Why is that ridiculous?

In that scenario, you would fire a manager who has just lead the team to a quadruple treble and has is technically a point ahead in the league after winning games in hand.

  4. 9 Dundee United players in isolation due to Covid, 14 day isolation ,due to play sevco during that as well.

  5. In the scenario..to be clear, we remain unbeaten until we arrive at Ibrox, the huns lose 1 of the 4 awat games

Lots of IF’s..bt not beyond the realms of possibility

  6. Bada

What’s the point of the testing system if you have to isolate for 14 days – 2 negative tests within 4 days and you should be good to go. Good enough for students to travel.

It’s an interesting point, though highly unlikely based on current form and most recent results.

To answer your specific scenario – were Neil in place at the start of the next derby, results having panned out as you say, then I wouldn’t expect him to be sacked at the victorious end

  8. NOTTHEBUS

What have you seen in the last few months, that makes you think we could go unbeaten until the end of the year.

  9. Thanks for the replies ghuys.

And the voice mail they left ended with ‘good bye and have blessed day’.

    all let go too early.

No of course not Uncle Jimmy, however that scenario @ present, as we speak, can also become

    wishful thinking IMO.

“Neil Lennon is above all a pragmatist. Substance over style, tracksuit, not tailored suit. He has significant challenges ahead in the Europa League, and if he ever wants to face a tier one club, he needs to get through a Champions League qualification campaign, but if and when he gets there, his team will not be shredded as easily.”

    ———-

17 goals against in 5 games?

    And that’s the Europa League…..

Mickey J is a great option as a impact sub to change things in the later stages of a game, hasn’t reached the level required to be a first pick every week.

Wee Forrest has performed to a high level consistently for the last 3 seasons or so, frightens teams, scores and assists for fun.

Anyone know when he’s due back?

Hunbelievable…..and the meeja will gleefully and sleekitly promote the precautions while failing to wonder wy every hun seems to catch “rainjurzitis” but most seem impervious to the latest novel condition!

  17. NOTTHEBUS:

Lennon’s sacking is entirely justified based on current results.

I’m trying to take a non–parochial view here, a view that has nothing to do with ten in a row.

Our Europa League catastrophe, on its own, as well as the League Cup exit, entirely justify the managers removal. What you’re talking about is a collapse of form at another club; it has nothing to do with the problems we’re facing in our own walls.

If Lennon manages to get a modest tune out of the best squad in the whole league, by a mile, for a handful of games, does that mean we can afford to ignore what are obvious signs of regression which have made our club a laughing stock in Europe?

Not a chance in Hell. He should not be in the job right now. Even if he pulls off the unlikely scenario you’re talking about, that man cannot take us forward as a club.

By the way, I don’t believe that scenario is remotely likely. The Ibrox club might well drop points but I have absolutely no confidence in our ability to go on a winning run. None.

Listening to Lennon last night was the point at which I started mentally preparing myself for losing this title, because I don’t believe there’s a Plan B in the boardroom and I don’t even think Lennon has a Plan A.

Amusing observation and a deadly serious point well made in a single post. Lol

    Genuine question to all …..

Why is Sevco dropping points across four away games perceived as improbable?

They’ve dropped points in 2 of 7 away games this season.

    Yes – they’ve played only 7 away games !

As for us? Beat St. Johnstone.

That is our entire world for the next 2 days.

    Hail hail

  22. JAMES FORREST

Its a hypothetical scenario for a bit of fun on a boring Friday so I can listen to other posters viewpoint which a few kindly indulged.

Branding its Ridiculous is unwelcome and unnecessary .

Everything doesn’t have to be so dramatic.

  23. If not now, when will changes be made? We are only living in denial, if we don’t

accept the inevetivable, that’s for sure.

The Board need to get the finger out, & make changes asap, that is obvious.

I’m afraid, the more longer they leave this glaring problem to carry on, the

more it will be, more of the same-as, same as, & Groundhog Day performances.

NFL knew what he was in for, when he took the job. He was not allowed to

pick his own backroom staff, which was a shambles. John Kennedy is a waiste

of space, & so is Stevie Woods, & Nick Hammond, & Gavin “Run-Run-Run” Strachan.

Their Training Methods & Scouting of Players, is in a complete mess @ present,

that is for sure. PL is a joke, & is only there to count heated driveways & take the

money. For example, he offered Craig Gordon a 10K cut in his wages, which

Craig Gordon refused, & now look @ the state of our Goalkeeping situation, it’s

a shambles. He/PL then gets rid of Johnny Hayes, who was played out of position,

& now look @ the state of our Defence, it’s a shambles, even an old player with

a zimmer frame could score against us. I’m afraid wee NFL has been papped

under the Club Coach, & left out to dry, & PL will not push him out of the Door,

cause NFL is a “Yes Man” & that is what PL wants in place @ our Club @ present,

what a complete mess. Wee NFL, is not going to walk away from a 2 Million plus

a year salary, would you? So Paul67 is correct, when he says it’s going to get more

worse than better, the way we are heading @ present, not unless their is a

complete change asap, that is for sure. PL & DD & The Club’s Narative is aye

don’t worry, keep the faith, & like that old pop tune yeah things will only get

better, yeah are you sure about that? Because I, along with many of our

Supporters & Fans, are not. We are heading for the worst Season in our Club’s

History, the way we are heading @ present, like 1948 with no light @ the end

of the Tunnel. We had a Invincible Season not so long ago, & now we are

heading towards a Catastrophe Season, if changes are not made in the

foreseeable future, that is for sure. Keeping the Staus Quo (not the Group)

here, is definitely not a sensible option, which I’m sure most of us Celtic

Minded fellow Supporters & Fans, would agree.
