Scottish football has afforded defending champions the courtesy of a home game on the first day of the season to allow the league championship flag to be unfurled at the start of the new campaign for as many decades as I remember.
As this has, in effect, become a courtesy to give Celtic a home start to the campaign in as many years as my sons can remember, we’ll be at Tynecastle on the opening day of the season. Flag Day will have to wait.
That said, I like the idea of taking on Hearts away, then our nearest challengers, Aberdeen, at home. Come through this successfully and we will be in excellent shape for the campaign.
The Aberdeen game comes immediately after the final round of European qualifiers, so we have an opportunity to finish August in a real high – if we get the preparatory work done early enough.
Bring it on. We don’t need no stinkin’ courtesies.

Spain, Italy & France have been pretty decent on the eye, Croatia the outsider and Germany will always be there……only ante-post bet I have is Grizeman top goalscorer and France to win at 20/1, just before the tourney I wanted to put a substantial amount on France at 3/1…… My bank manager (the Mrs) just laughed……. She likes taking half the winnings but doesn’t like to cover the outlay……. It doesn’t take Einstein to work out who the eijit is in this partnership

I have not sought to renew yet because, though I have great faith in the hints from the res 12 boys and WC, nothing officially has changed yet.
I keep getting told that the signing of Brendan Rodgers is a new era. Speculate to accumulate is back, Dermot Desmond is angrier than the Hulk, and Zlatan is on the verge of signing, and that’s the reason the crowds are back and it is what we have been telling the club to do for years.
Now, I am as pleased as anybody that we landed a proven manager like Brendan BUT….
I have no idea if Brendan will be a success in Scotland or in Europe.
I have no idea if big signings are on the way
I have no idea if all the old strategies are history and PL has been sidelined.
All I know, so far, for sure, is that a team playing out of Ibrox is “back” in the league and CP is close to a sell out. There may be no seats left by the time I get any confirmation about my club’s intentions on sporting integrity.
