Well done to the thousands who turned up for the Jock Stein 30th Anniversary game at Dunfermline yesterday. Money from the match is already helping refugees through the British Red Cross’s Europe Refugee Crisis Appeal.
The club site this morning reported David Miller of the Red Cross said, “Celtic FC Foundation and their fans’ support will make a real difference to the refugees and communities affected across Europe and in neighbouring countries. Thank you for supporting the appeal.”
We have a great auction coming up this week for hospitality at the Dundee game later this month, all funds going to the Foundation. Look out for it.
I was sorry to hear of the passing of Ralph Milne yesterday. Ralph was one of the outstanding talents of Scottish football when he won the league with Dundee United in 1983, a day after his 22nd birthday.
His scored the goal which won the league, but the memory of his chance in the European Cup semi-final, a year later away to Roma, still induces regret. 27 years later Roma would admit to bribing the referee for that game, as they progressed to the final with a 3-2 aggregate. A few years after winning the league the writing was on the wall for Ralph’s career.
I watched him playing a student team on a public park, telling the incredulous English person I was with about Ralph’s European Cup semi-final exploits three years earlier. He then floated around the English lower leagues before Sir Alex Ferguson signed him for Manchester United. Fergie remember the Ralph we were all amazed at from the 82-85 era, but by then (1988) Ralph was a a shadow of his former self. One of the game’s greats became one of its parodies.
Kick back and give yourself 20 minutes to have a read at Weekend at Bernie’s, recently published by the Hostile Monkey blog. In the light of last week’s court appearances it is a fully referenced, line-by-line, assessment of the “same club myth”, detailing six areas instances of the debate:
The Lord Nimmo-Smith Commission Argument
The European Football Club Association Argument
The UEFA website argument
The Advertising Standards Authority argument
The BBC Trust Argument
The SFA Registration Argument
It’s worth bookmarking for future reference.

Defo a compliment.
After the Primo recommendations you’re my new bestie.
HH
I heard he is dead
we will beat Germany.
You can take that to the bank
I heard he was dead.
And Scotland do???
Gearoid
Yes primo was excellent
You reading anything at the moment
Bit of light hearted stuff
Legacy.
How you been??
Was at the semi on Saturday. Unlike your good self I think the Metropolitans will beat Kerry.
Well, I have to thank the Germans for the win tonight, I weighed in with the seasons pot on them.
Sad that I actually want scotland to lose whoever they play.
They would see Celtic gone, when the day comes that changes that, maybes my attitude will change, till then…..
Thanks again Deutschland.

I was impressed by Dublin on Saturday, mayo are a good team and gave Dublin a proper test. The first test we have had. Dublin kerry should be a cracker, can’t call it though
What about kilkenny, fabulous team
Scotland need 1 point from Poland.
Ireland will get no more than they have tonight. The Germans are motoring.
Away to Warsaw – Ireland’s game is over to a team who need the points.
Sorry but this is the reality.
They don’t have the head to head against any team in the group so Ireland must wait their turn
Thought after the first half that Galway might have a shout but Kilkenny know how to win a game. When you think of the players that they have lost and they can still get it over the line.
11/10 minus three. TJ Reid outstanding.
Scotland put themselves in a very disadvantageous position for many decades by virtue of their policy to choose players from oldco , in preference to players from other teams, to wear the Scotland jersey ……this policy gradually eroded the development of the national team and is only now being addressed by WGS …..we now have the opportunity to develop a good squad but, due to the previous damage resulting from a corrupt policy, this will not be achieved overnight.
Met a Ghuys today who was wearing a sweater covered in Shamrocks, with the writing on it …. “It was the Leprechauns who made me do it” ….turns out he was from Milford, Donegal….the same village as my father …… We had a few laughs, let me tell you ….hahahaha
Good Evening Bhoys and Ghirls
Been a long day. Not long back from the Big Smoke. Missed the Scotland game. Where they unlucky or lucky at 2-3?

The problem is to many vested interests in Scottish football.
Outdated thinking permeates the Scottish game.
Picking the runts and second tier from the English league is folly.
We play like the pro version of a pub team.
Players like Armstrong should be in the forefront but there is no appetite to actually play him.
Hutton is pants but is a popular choice with mssm as a link to a former team.
The game here is 20 years behind the rest of Europe but our administrators are happy to enjoy the financial rewards.
Meanwhile the game is falling behind at an accelerating rate but it not their fault and it disnae matter anyway as theres no present huns good enough to play even in this current crop.
If sevco were an spl team then the mssm would be castigating the administrators for having such a poor platform for their heroes to perform in.
Youth football is poor and the standard of refs allows the cloggers to be revered and shine.
The whole edifice needs to be torn down and intelligent progressive thinkers with no petty parochial leanings are needed to take the game into the 21st century.
Murray out of the tennis.
Scotland probably out of the Euros.
Thank God we can all concentrate on Celtic.
Does anyone hate international break weekends as much as I do?
I just stuck my head in to see who was fighting about what tonight, and
Not a post in sight for the last two hours.
No insults over perceived slights
No personal ad hominem attacks
No random figures on board salaries, performance or ineptitude.
It’s like looking in on my grind daughters in bed and seeing them sleeping like angels.
Knowing that in the morning they will again take on theIr Devils’ personae.
GRAND not grind.
My thumbs aren’t as flexible and agile as they used to be.
Good night
Up early,airport run,joys of being a dad
Any birthday cqnrs today
The golden years have come at last,
Why don’t I feel this is a blast?
I cannot see, I cannot pee.
I cannot chew. What can I do?
My memory shrinks. My hearing stinks.
No sense of smell..I look like hell.
My body’s drooping, got trouble pooping.
And people ask, “Why am I stooping?”
The golden years have come at last.
The golden years can kiss my ass.

Hope you have plenty of golf balls
Wet weet weet
Missed out eyesight failing, I can’t read my phone without my glasses now
Morning all.
Looks set fair for another fresh but sunny day. Long may it last.
Hope all our internationals get back to Parkhead fit and ready to play against Aberdeen. Besides home advantage, their team will be well rested and prepared. Hard game in prospect, especially as our defence will never have played together before.
I’m not sure if we will play Jozo, maybe he’ll start either Mulgrew, Ambrose or even Lustig alongside Derrick?
Next up is he Ajax game, too big an ask to blend a new central defence into those two games.
Found this amusing, and ironic, coming from a Scottish Newspaper
“One of the best known political maxims is that lies, even big ones, which are told often enough are eventually accepted as ‘truth’, no matter how baseless they are ” ……. I repeat, this was stated by a Scottish Journalist …….hunbelievable
Hot and horribly humid – way down south.
Italian media are continuing to put the boot into the Italian National team.Unbeaten ( to date ) in the Qualifiers ( won 5 / drew 3 ) but perceived to be rotten .
” Qualification looks likely , humiliation in the Finals is a certainty “
67 HEAVEN
Was it a sports journalist?
Wee thing on the radio re journalism.
Media academic paraphrases Frank Zappa .
“Journalism tends to feature people who cant write interviewing people who can’t talk for people who can’t read “
Morning Bhoys it is great the International break is past for a bit and it is back to Celtic games a tough one coming up against Aberdeen it will be interesting to see how we line up. H.H.
SOUTHOFTUNIS
I read your comments last week about the death of Rico Rodriguez. I heard this on the radio last night, extended mix of Ghost Town-with an extended contribution from Rico.
Hope you enjoy it.

It’s quite funny when you look at the comment sections for Scotland games on other websites.
You will get a bunch of jokers who will blame Mulgrew, Forrest and Brown specifically. Makes you wonder if they have a chip on their shoulder?
Flights booked for all home Europa games Woop Woop. H H Hebcelt
MURDOCH’S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on 8TH SEPTEMBER 2015 9:09 AM
No, he was reporting on crime……Graham Grant, Scottish Daily Mail ( my wife gets it for the numbers competition, and I do the quick crossword ….hahahahahahaha)
Aberdeen are 3/1 to win on Saturday. 3/1 at Home! Their opponents must be highly rated 0:-)
