I wonder how the paper will react — Old Monkey Glands will not be happy.

BoJo will not go — he is in full Masada mode.

For the sake of the country I hope the in-fighting lasts for a few more weeks.

Like all civil or uncivil wars the longer it goes on for the deeper will the hatred and divisions that it generates — then will come the reckoning and the plotting and the back-stabbing and the Tory-cide.

My money is still on JH — playing the supposed grown up.

Some of BoJo’s ditchers will support him to get back at the supposed Brexit snakes that caused all the trouble in the first place.

I think Bojo is turning into our very own Trump. Going full scorched earth instead of resigning. Hopefully he does more long term damage to the Tory party.

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen from Paddy Neesons. Watched the game in the house but couldn’t resist a lovely stroll down my kingdom. Hope you are all hale and hearty.

Are you suggesting Charlie Boy will go full on Eddie-8 — become overly political — and sign off a general election so that BoJo can continue the carnage as facebook is filled with ads / subliminal messages suggesting that KS is a Martian / in league with Putin / a devil worshipper?

I think the bold Lizzie will hang on to give him his jotters.

Ange Postecoglou said he wants “one or two more” signings at Celtic after his side got off to a flying start in pre-season.

The boss watched on as his side put SC Wiener Viktoria to the sword in a 7-0 rout in Vienna. Johnny Kenny stole the headlines with a double while youngster Rocco Vata rounded it off with his first goal in green and white late on.

New signings Alexandro Bernabei and Benjamin Siegrist made their debuts while returning duo Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers weren’t involved as they rest up for Saturday’s clash with Rapid Vienna. But it isn’t expected that the incoming business will stop there.

A new central midfielder is high on the agenda and Vinicius Souza may still be an option after reports in the Netherlands denied that he is close to joining PSV. Meanwhile a new creator may be required to replace Tom Rogic, who was nominated for PFA Player of the Year last season before leaving on a free.

Postecoglou said: “I still think there are one two areas where we need some more robustness in terms of the squad, just some quality in depth. I wouldn’t expect too many but there are still one or two areas I’m looking to strengthen knowing what’s ahead for us.

“It has been good so far. It has been pretty well chronicled that 12 months ago it was chaotic. In January and now we are working in a way that we know what we are after. We identify targets and then make sure we take the time to get the ones we want, so that has been good.

“It was very pleasing to get Jota and Cam on board permanently. They were massive contributors last season and we think there is more in them. To get them on-board is great and with Alexandro and Benji coming in that helps with the quality across the board.

“We are definitely looking to bring in one or two more before the window closes. Again it is about identifying what we want and making sure they fit all aspects and we are working towards that.”

However the Hoops boss was adamant that no deals are in the “final stages” as things stand. Postecoglou went on: “I know you guys like to speculate about prime and secondary, but look, I said last year the ones we got we did pretty good getting and the ones we don’t get are the ones that don’t work out for a number of reasons.

“So, whilst we have an interest in a lot of players, I’ve always said for me there’s got to be certain things that come together for a deal to be done. There’s a lot of good players out there. But are they a good fit for our football club? Do they want to be at our football club?

“If any way along this way I get a sense that doesn’t happen then we’re happy to move on to the next one. We don’t have primary targets. We know what we need and we’ve identified some players who potentially could fit in that mould. But like I said, we won’t go into that final stage with anyone else at the moment until I’m convinced they’re coming to the football club for the right reasons.”

Postecoglou knows that some of his players could go, like Christopher Jullien who saw a move to Schalke collapse last week, and Ismaila Soro, who has remained in Glasgow. Celtic also agreed a deal to sell Ross Doohan to Tranmere Rovers.

The keeper was on loan at the English club last season. Postecoglou knows he has a big squad but reckons that will be needed for their domestic defence and their Champions League assault. He acknowledged: “It’s a big squad, and we’re going to need a big squad.

“We’ll probably play 60 games this year, and with the World Cup break it’s going to be a pretty congested schedule either side of it. So, we’re going to need a strong squad, but in terms of players departing it’s no different to last year.

“I’m pretty comfortable with it, that will all take care of itself. The ones who see their futures elsewhere or are looking for opportunities elsewhere, if that comes along it comes along. At the moment, whoever is in the squad, I treat them as if they are going to stay in the squad, unless they say otherwise.”

if you are not watching it now, or have never seen it, not to worry, ‘The Boys From The Blackstuff’ is on BBC 4, the channel the BBC is about to abolish. The original drama was done for Play for Today in 1978, when Labour was in power, but curiously was not shown until 1980 when Thatcher was in Number 10. Set mainly in Middlesborough. It was forty years ago today when the series was shown, maybe not exactly, thereabouts. Gives you an idea where Lennon* got his humour from, and what happened to Liverpool, and Glasgow too. Anyways, showing it as one long drama tonight, and will be on the ol iplayer for awhile. Need a licence mind.

The original play with these characters was the “Black Stuff” — made in 78 / shown in Jan 80.

It is about a cash in hand job that goes wrong — proto Thatcherism is one way to look at it.

The group had legit job to do and are offered another job on the side that goes — predictably — very wrong.

The series — The boys from the Black Stuff was set in Maggie’s economic genocide of 79 to 83 and deals with the same characters trying survive in much more difficult economic times.

From memory it was life in the raw / pretty brutal stuff.

Immaturity / hyper masculinity / insecurity in equal measure.

    Need to watch it again.

AWP — brickies in Germany tried cover the same ground but without the raw edge.

Here was me just yesterday encouraging my youngest daughter to cycle in to work from the South Side.

One for the Dumbarton people and Tontine Tim – also read the article on the Saint Patricks greatest team.

*thanks for that , I am well versed on Peter Goldie as not only did his brother Frank teach me at St Pats, he was a science teacher but taught me English such was the vagaries of that school, but Frank was also my neighbour out in Balloch before I emigrated.

My family, on both sides, knew the Goldie’s well as he himself said his da was originally fae the Vale of Leven where my mother came from and Peter grew up in the Silverton area of Dumbarton, a wee Irish oasis among the bowling green fraternity, as did my da who albeit was about 11 year older than Peter.

SAINT STIVS on 6TH JULY 2022 8:22 PM

The Vale Emmett – what a name.

*aye another connection as my uncle ran the Emmett and had also ran the Renton Guild which was also mentioned in the articles along with Mrs TT’s uncle, oh and they had a young 15 year old centre who would later become my da.

Anyway as a boy I would go and watch the Emmett as my da helped out and my mother brought the oranges, it was a real family affair, my da’s later claim tae fame was going through tae Tynecastle for a Juvenile cup final as neutrals where he and my uncle helped carry one of the sides, Leslie Hearts, star man off with I believe a broken arm, his name was Willie Fernie

Oh and one more memory is of going out with them one night, I would be only a wean at the time as they went up tae Duntocher for some business, could have been Peter’s move tae the local Hibs.

BTW St Pats with their lopsided pitch called then the Rockies, I only played their once as by the time I attended the school the pitch had been levelled and red blase was installed, but what I remember is when taking a corner it was level with the crossbar, Sir Furious who played with an outstanding Govan High school team said it was the only school they feared playing against at their home pitch.

Finally Professor Johnny Walker mentioned on here was a student teacher when I was at the school, as the article says he now lives out here, his son used tae be on the Big Lhist but moved tae Oz and I never heard from him again.
