Winning Scottish Cup would devastate chasing pack

223

I know Neil Lennon will have only one thought on his mind this week: Thursday’s Europa League second leg against Copenhagen.  Pushing deeper into this tournament is where the money is for Celtic and delivers prestige on the international stage.  But, I could argue that Sunday’s Scottish Cup quarter final is more important.

With the rest of the league now realising Celtic are on their way to nine-in-a-row, the Scottish Cup has taken on enormous importance.  Reaching the quarter finals of the Europa League will put a few million in the bank and earn more coefficient points, but it changes little from a strategic point of view.  Conversely, winning the Scottish Cup for a record fourth successive season would devastate those hoping that the millions spent trying to catch Celtic was not a waste of money.

Trying to catch Celtic is the most expensive indulgence in football, a point we will explore in more detail tomorrow.

  1. Young Davis for Bayern is an absolute flying machine

Would give Didier Agathe a run for his money

  2. If BR had come in and said- Guys, I am totally obsessed by money and will leave you when I sense a challenge I don’t fancy but I WILL be successful…. We would all have accepted it.

To leave when he did, to try to take the WHOLE management with him, to advise Tierney ( and John McGinn before him) to play elsewhere, to bid £20m for Callum McGregor, to play sevco in a friendly and loan them an internationalist on the 31st August means he’ll never be welcome at Celtic by most.

Never a Celtic fan but I think we have all moved on.

  3. Jabba latest statement tonight saying Michael Stewart has shown no remorse, and actually have the brassneck to mention, he was physically assaulted….

  4. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Park Road further to your post earlier re Michael Stewart returning to the BBC .

The excellent Graham Hunter ex of s** sports La Liga coverage , tweeted that he had voluntarily not done any work for BBC Scotland due to their treatment of Michael Stewart. Now the situation has been resolved. , he’s willing to do work for them if asked.

Hopefully this means the end of that wee horror McCann appearing on Sportscene.

  5. Can any of our friends living south of the border fill us in on the complaint may to the Mayor of Brugge by the Man.Utd Supporters Trust about the conduct of the Belgian police? Apparently they were given similar treatment to that sustained by our supporters in Amsterdam, water cannons, baton charges, etc. Having lived in Belgium for four years, I know I would not want to upset their cops. Saw their reactions to things on several occasions and I would never have wished to be on the other end of their actions.

You’ve got to feel sorry for McCann.

Looking at the state of him at the weekend it was clear he’d been chucked oot the hoose and was sleeping beneath a desk at Pacific Quay.

    What’ll happen to him noo?

  7. DALLASDALLAS

Aye Michael Stewart back on soon hopefully and an end to the likes of McCann and the racist Malky MacKay !

  8. Terje

I think McCann, with his attempt at designer stubble, is goin for that gruff, sexy, rugged rat look

  9. Methinks he achieved it …well apart from the sexy bit …

Still two out of three ain’t bad as they say 😜

  10. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Terse Vigan and Park Road , like many have mentioned , last Sunday’s Sportscene was terrible particularly with McCann on spouting his mince. I was anticipating him bringing out his rule book after our win at Tynecastle in August 1916.

My best memory of him was when he returned to Hearts , came on as a sub against us, tried to do Scott McDonald but ended up getting stretchered off with an ankle fracture. There was no sympathy from support understandably.

Another big game on Thursday. .We will need to be calm and patient with , hopefully , Broonie back.

Good night all and sleep well.

*His cousin nigel worthington is on record as saying the whole Rogers family, da and 4 bhoys, were all Celtic supporters except the fraud who followed Sheffield Wednesday, now that may be because worthington, who is 11 years his elder, played for the Owls for the bulk of his career.

MON for example has always stated that he wisnae originally a Celtic supporter, although he always looked out for our results, but his da was and allegedly told him if we came in he should crawl over broken glass tae take the job. He was a Sunderland supporter and this is due tae them playing in the same colours as his first love Derry City.

In fact his favourite player was not Charles Patrick but another Irish Charlie, Cork born former Black Cats captain Charlie Hurley who was named their player of the century. Although Rainham raised Charlie played 40 times for the Free State.

Personally I have no time for fraudgers as he walked out and left us no giving a donald duck, if I was tae pick players fae the black north as being examples of good Celts they would be our 7-1 captain Bertie Peacock who IMHO, after 453 games and 50 goals winning 2 LC, 2 SC, 1 Title including our first double in 40 years, wisnae treated very fairly by the club and released after damaging knee in a SC game against the Hibbees.

Or Willie Cook, from the same town and of the same faith as Bertie, who after 100 games was sold to Everton for in his words “financial reasons”, ironically he played for the Toffees against us in the Empire Exhibition Cup final, which as we all know we won. Willie in his short spell with us won a SC winners medal and year and an english league winners medals, the latter the season after losing in the Exhibition Trophy to us which indicates how good we really were.

  12. Tontine Tim…. Great post as per.

BR had never been to Celtic Park before his managerial unveiling.

Still glad we had him but happier ( for loads of reasons)

Long time reader since it became open to all but never actually posted.

The BBC thing made me post though. It’s an absolute disgrace the way this has been handled. Make no mistake. By all parties might I add.

That said, let’s not punish all the other sides of the BBC that are important. We need the animal documentaries for the kids to learn about how we are felling forests and what life is like in the jungle. The kids TV has set many a life straight. There is some good content on the BBC, don’t forget that. The Panorama documentary about Amazon was a great piece of telly box and now that iPlayer is adding stuff it’s a good service for what we pay. Did anyone watch the Amazon thing? Crazy how we are all being manipulated and lied to on a daily basis.

Don’t like the commentary on the games? Turn the volume down. I find it abhorrent and watch with the sound down and the tunes on.

If we don’t like what ASDAs politics are we to just start stealing like them over the other side of town? There be gold in them there BBC hills and I am not going to die on the MS one. Not so tough on the BBC folks folks.

I do get annoyed though that because of one persons comments we end up with McCann, really? No offense but I have never heard a smart word come out of his mouth. At least Thommo makes an effort with his jeans and beard! Surely nobody thinks he is a real pundit?

Agree with all though, get the lawyers up and paid, they have a ton of work coming their way.

Anyway, sorry for the first post rant, just feel strongly about the BBC. And about the NHS, but that’s for the meeting by the docks.

this season we have scored 82 goals in 28 games.

  22. Good morning friends from a cold and very slightly snowy East KIlbride. And, of course Happy Ash Wednesday – for Lent will Sevco decide to give up on Europe?

  23. I desperately want Celtic to re-sign Jackson Irvine from Hull. Free agent in the summer.

Potential Brown replacement and Celtic captain. He has that type of mentality.

  24. i jusst luv it whenthe huns lose seen braga could be without 6 players tonight no for some strange reason they get through although cant seit myself the nest round is on 12 and 19 march we have the huns on the 15 they would not cope with that getting battered 3 times in a week h h

I see the Irish Health Minister wants the Ireland v Italy rugby match cancelled because of the COVID-19 outbreak in Italy.

Sensible precaution or overreaction? Time will tell.

    ###

If the match is cancelled how many of the Italian fans who’d arranged and paid for their trips, accommodation etc would still travel over anyway, just for the craic?

So cancelling the match wouldn’t be enough, you’d have to have some kind of travel restriction on people coming from Italy, or at least the affected parts of Italy.
