With Brendan, there’s a belief

620

‘No one said it was easy.’ How true. When I heard the Celtic line-up I responded, “Would take a 1-0 right now”. No strikers and a new central defensive pairing is not the way to start an important game.

A couple of years ago, you would have an ominous feeling right now, but with Brendan, there’s a belief that we will be prepared in Trondheim. We need to put the ball in the net. Even if we concede first, subsequently putting the ball in the net resolves a lot of issues.

My expectation is that we saw the best of Rosenborg last night. Celtic were clearly well below their best. When the teams meet again Celtic will be one week fitter, and I expect personnel changes.

For so long we missed the kind of football that knots your stomach. This one is hugely important. Enjoy the tension!

  1. the glorious balance sheet on

Phil Macgiollabhain tweeted earlier today that he has seen minutes of the RFC Board meeting where the DOS tax fiddle was set up for Craig Moore. The minutes confirm that a certain Campbell Ogilvie was present at this meeting.

The same Campbell Ogilvie who Celtic allowed to be elected unopposed as SFA President in 2013 after the LNS whitewash had exposed Ogilvie’s role in EBTs and after the same Ogilvie had been described as “heavily conflicted” by Stewart Regan.

It seems inescapable to me the more that leaks out about this scandal that either our directors have been completely blind, hopelessly naive or complicit in the fix.

They have serious questions to answer.

    Timbhoy1,

Celtic might be happy enough where they are at the moment.

With Sevco in tatters we should be guaranteed (unless we mess up qualification) some kind of European football (money).

We can collect Scottish footballing silverware like the meaningless WWE belts Triple H and The Rock ‘wrestle’ over.

When a better financial offers comes in for “the buy 1 get the second 1 FREE, Old Firm.” We’ll drop Scottish football and probably leave some kind of Development Squad behind in the wasteland which is Scottish football.

Watch the SKY deal with the EPL?

Don’t forget Mr Lawwell’s questionable track record; Tony Mowbray, a rookie Neil Lennon (who was a huge gamble after Tony left) and Ronny Deila.

Gordon Strachan was agreed when MoN left.

Brendan Rodgers was appointed by a different/professional system via a headhunter firm. He didn’t like interference from the Fenway Sports Group at Liverpool. He won’t like the collusion and cheating that is ongoing, I hope.

With the departure of the cheats from Ibrox to the lower leagues, it really has been shooting fish in a barrel.

Now Sevco are back you do know that in the interests of fairness and commercialism we are going to have to let them win the league?

    The question is when?

I guess Rangers Media already know, does the Plc?

    Houl Yer Wheest,

Is that a statement? Question? Does it refer to the funding? Dublin bias by the unfair retention of Hill 16 for the Jackeens?:))

Number of Corporate Boxes? Etc, etc, etc.

To be fair. There are suits in the GAA too and all kinds of ‘messing’ in every sport.

It’s the incompetence, arrogance and bigotry and Scotland that exacerbates the problem.

Till Later, I’m actually off to Dublin 3 at the moment.

Remember the Louth v Cork All Ireland 1957, 1-9 to 1-7 to An Lú ;)

It’s only stats Beatbhoy, but they indicate that you and Timreaper can be equally happy/unhappy with the result. :¬)

    ***********

    Aahh… grasshopper…

You cannot be happy or unhappy unless you first learn to distinguish between being and nonbeing — and experience the power of Tao.

Being, in the context of Tao, means ‘something’. Non-being, on the other hand, means ‘nothing’.

They are in existent in all things we know.

It is a manifestation of yin yang. It is a central concept of Tao Te King of Lao Tze.

To understand what the two words mean, look at a drinking cup.

In the cup, being is the physical presence. It is in the something that you can see — including the body of the cup, its handle and so on.

What we often over look, however, is the non-being, as it is something we cannot see.

It is nevertheless the most important part of the existence.

Ask yourself this question, “What is the purpose of you having the cup?”

Most likely you’d say you want the cup to hold your drink – be it tea, coffee or anything else.

A cup that cannot hold water is no longer a cup, right?

Then, look closely at the cup. Which part of the cup do you find the drink?

It is not the handle. It is not the cup body. It is not the being.

It is the space within the body. Something you cannot see, and appears to be empty.

    It is the non-being.

So although the cup – or the something — is what you own, it is the space – the nothing – that you use. You own the being — the cup — for the non-being — the space.

Knowing this helps us to stay close to reality.

    ****

I figured I”d switch from the usual kafflik/proddy thing, and drop a bit of Taoism on old CQN.

RBK on the news happy with last nights result and confident they will put Celtic out next week.Norway is hardly a country of football giants if indeed we do fail to progress this will be a huge set back for Celtic. I think we need to consider changing our season to allow Scottish clubs the chance at least to be at the same fitness level when we have to play in the qualifyers. H.H.

  8. Doc

Quite happy to repeat that title-stripping is a consequence of, not a punishment for, fielding improperly registered players for over 10 seasons.

Similar to Sevco starting off in the bottom tier back in 2012. Not a punishment, a consequence of being a new club formed from Green’s purchase of the basket of assets left following Rangers (1872-2012) having to enter liquidation.

Of course, it was only the threat by supporters to withdraw financial support from the game that produced that consequence.

Yes… Didn’t seem to be so important to have Competition in Scottish Football then.

When did we see the “boring game” stuff and hand wringing during Rangers 9iar Seasons.

There is a Famous American Industrialist Jack Walsh. He took the lumbering failing Giant that was GEC

And turned into the most successful company in the World.

A lot of his techniques became “text book” Management protocols.

One of his major processes was to find a Successful Division, find what it was doing right and adapt and implement it throughout the Company’s Divisions.

Seems fairly obvious, and of course it’s standard practise now within good Management Teams.

Now look at the new SFA President’s approach.

Celtic being so far out in front is bad for the game.

The thing is Joe, the domestic season has already started, it’s been up and running for 2 weeks with the League cup. The 2 main reasons for Summer football(whit summer admittedly) are it’s better for the fans, and to help Scottish teams in Europe. To start the league cup without European qualifiers is madness. Make the 1st game of the league season the weekend before the 1st round in Europe(next season if we qualify for the CL I believe we start in the 1st round). Play the new year fixtures then shut down the rest of January. So so simple.

Routine. That’s all it is. A habit of just watching whatever garbage game they are showing on the sports channels.

It’s that mundane ya do a bet to try and make it interesting. Corners, cards, goals. Still not even a sweat.

When complaining about Celtics strategy for dealing with cheating, perhaps some on here should check out number 5 of his 19 “Instructions For Life?

Celtic are playing the long game here.

The SFA/SPFL will be overhauled, the old media will die and Sevco will be structurally unsound for AT LEAST the next five years.

BTW – good luck to Aberdeen tonight. One hour before kick off in a European match there was still no mention of the event on the BBC Football website. Disgraceful.

    Bin “Billy Smith’s Whitewash”.

  20. With all the talk of how well organised Rosenborg are it still took them 210 minutes to scrape past Dundalk who scored in both legs in the opening ten minutes and the reason being because they were as fit as the Norwegians – Dundalk are also well into their season. Celtic have better players than Rosenborg but will meet teams with match fitness advantage with regularity in these Champions Lge early stages. Perhaps a tweak in the season is the answer to pursue the big European money stakes.

  22. Paul67 et al

Well next week’s game certainly offers a challenge to our players and coaches, maybe that is what you were referring to yesterday. Yesterday was a day of disappointment on the pitch, but it was a day of infamy off it. Gerry “here’s one I prepared earlier” Moynihan proved to be the latest flunky to put his name, ( his reputation does not seem to matter to him all that much) to the latest press release, statement, advice or flying kite from the farrago that is the SFL/SPL mash-up. Gerry’s brief from the SPFL was to state that there is no legal basis for further proceedings re the liquidation of Rangers FC and its replacement. No problem says Gerry, I’ll just say there is no legal basis for said action, even if there might be, even if there is. No no no no legal basis. Decisions of the Court of Session in Edinburgh do not count in Glasgow and decisions by the Supreme Court in London most definitely not count in the legal world I inhabit, otherwise known as La La Land. There is one question left unanswered says Gerry though; “Do I get a retainer?”

  23. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

The big disappointment for me last night was the self inflicted handicap of a tension in our own ranks. The atmosphere wasn’t the asset it should be on a CL night and we have no-one to blame but ourselves. United we are unstoppable, as we showed last season. Divided we fall. Let’s screw the nut and focus on our real enemies – there’s more than enough of them at Hampden, Ibrox and in the media.

  24. Celtic are suffering from Paddy Roberts syndrome and not just because we’ve lost a mercurial winger but we also lost our only successful and noticeably absent ‘third central striker’.

We got by last season when the Englishman was switched inside when both Moussa and Griff were out.

This should have been taken into account as soon as PR headed out the revolving door, no question about and we effectively lost two players with his exit. Theres also unaddressed trouble brewing in the centre of defence, with Boyata and Erik both injured, we’re left light for the SPL never mind Europe.

Throw in no cover other than a young untested very right sided Anthony Ralston should Keiran Tierney be injured suspended theres potential trouble there too. If Celtic beat Rosenborg we still need to strengthen, if Rosenborg win then it’s the same scenario

We’ve very quickly lost the feel good factor and players earn four times our first team players in the English second tier, so its very much game on for BR with whom he buys and also who he has bought, playing and not playing.

  25. Just seen Brendan go into the bet365 stadium – rumour is Hughes for the off and Brendan to manage the mighty potters.

  26. Apparently the growing rift between the first team, the board and Brendan is over the hogging of the Paddy Roberts blow up doll. Stuart Armstrong apparently hogged it the whole summer, wee KT begging him on a taxi drivers twitter feed to die it back, added to this Moussa’s instance on speaking French to the said doll and you have a recipe for a vol au vent, hairdressers in Glasgow have their ears to the windae as this story develops legs and starts walking down the pages of CQN..

    Ye heard here first..

  27. Joe Filippis Haircut on

GENE. If your not pulling our leg this could perhaps show the rumours of a rift at Parkhead could be right. However, there again he might just be looking for new recruits for the hoops. H.H.
