I reckoned Champions League participation was worth circa £22m to Celtic. By contrast, Europa League football will be worth less than a quarter of that. Ancillary income, such as retail and kiosk sales, will also suffer.
The challenge now is to improve the team without that income. This should not be impossible. Malmo managed it, and we’re not in a situation where the bank is hammering at the door. But what should be clear, is that the next five days represent the best chance to strengthen the team for next August’s qualifiers. There’s a notion that the biggest games of our season come early, but we’ve 11 months to plan for 2016’s biggest games.
Three things to remind you about:
Golfers: buy a raffle ticket for £1 to win a round of golf FOR FOUR PEOPLE at the magnificent Aberdour course in Fife. Competition ends on Saturday, get your tickets here!!! It’s offered by Taggsybhoy, in support of the Foundation.
There’s a Mary’s Meals collection from 1pm on the Celtic Way ahead of the game on Saturday. Ideally we’re looking for backpacks, but handtowels (the school kitchens you paid for have handwashing facilities and each child is given their own handtowel), pencils, rulers, etc.
If the kids got new kit for starting school last week, dig out the old stuff and bring it along.
Magners have kindly donated two Premium Seats in the Jock Stein Stand for Saturday’s games. You can win the tickets by answering this question:
Who is Celtic’s top scorer this season?
Player’s surname in the SUBJECT line of your email to celticquicknews@gmail.com . Competition closes at 22:00 TONIGHT, so not a lot of time to enter.
No call today for a donation, go stick a £1 in Taggsy’s raffle instead. Thanks.

Although Celtic have missed out on the CL riches this season, the EL is not to be scoffed at in terms of revenue. Celtic will benefit by somewhere around £12M at least from EL participation. They have already earned £2.4M from CL not including the revenue from three home games, one of which, against Malmo will have brought in close to £2M. They get £1.7M prize money just for being in the EL GS. Three home games will bring in considerable revenues, especially if opponents the quality of Dortmund and Monaco are in our group. TV share will be close to £5M this year. This is without getting out of the group.
RD says there is no need to sell VVD and he is correct, as including gate receipts, corporate income and catering etc from this years CL and EL without any further progress or winning a game will be around £12-14M.
CMcL mentions bank debts at CP. He should make himself aware of short term loans and long term loans over twenty or more years.
Sevco have debts to board members and CMcL presents this as a preferential state of affairs. Well the reason they have these debts is because they cannot get a credit line from a financial institution of any kind, let alone a bank. This is strange, lol, since they have Ibrox as an apparent asset lol. Mr McLaughlin concern yourself more with the financial basket case which is sevco. Without a massive influx of cash this season, they will not be long for this world.”
Bourne, one of the sev players, Nicky Clark (son of hun,Sandy) was mouthing off he wanted us in the league cup.
Playing that mob once was enough. It would be marvellous if we never play them again but we will have to play the Scottish Barca next season.
4 days to get some european experienced players in for the Europa League.
I don’t want to build my hopes up as we have been left disappointed so often before.
Good night all and sleep well.

“Maybe we should have said ” we will one day spend all the income we earn, but for now we will accumulate the profits and reserves” OR ” we need to first make up for the £9m losses made in the 3 earlier years and then sometime in the future we will definitely, trust me, spend all the income we earn, honest”
I never made the statement, I am pointing out that it is as best, misleading and at worst a lie.”
Lacking your training, I don’t see the addition of “one day” or “eventually” as changing the statement from an operating statement into a mislead or a lie.
For the statement to have the meaning you took it would also have required an addition and would have read:- “We will spend all our money as soon as it comes in and never keep any in reserve for fear of making that statement look like a lie.”
Clashcitybhoy….Agreed on Southampton…they will not figure this year, on their way to as you said, they’r natural level..

As I say, if you comfortable with it then that is ok. In accounting terms, he is serving the shareholders interest very well at mo. That is the issue with being Celtic PLC, and not Celtic FC.
We could of course have a mental chairman like Garside at Bolton that ran up debt of £170m just to put it in perspective! Peter will be having palpations at the thought if he is online tonight :-)
Catch up with you soon

Sorry just caught your post before bed. Yes it arrived today, many thanks mate.
Perhaps the phrase b@@@@m l@@e might not be the best to use in light of some very unsavoury posts made tonight.
One unsavoury post the other night used slanty eyes in a description of Peter Lawwell , possibly coming from the twitter picture showing a resemblance between Peter and a Korean general.
Definitely good night from me.

So you were just teasing with the flounce you did earlier?
Dallas
I have several issues with PL but I thought some of personal comments the other night were a disgrace.
Oh oh next up will be some scratchy Clash 45’s as a welcome break from browsing Villa and Liverpool chums..
It’s a rats life..

In 2003 many in the English media considered us akin to the level you suggest we’re at now.
And then we went to Ewood and Anfield.
Frighntenig…
How bad we’ve been since Lenny left
About to hit my kip, but one final thought, I’m always suspicious of people who refer to us as Glasgow Celtic in written communication
All this football related angst is becoming boring
Can’t we revert back to some political arguments.

This comment is junk. Tell me the highest UEFA co-efficient points a team in England’s 3d tier holds or put out another Clash video.

Scottish Champions v Swedish Champions
A close run thing…always but the Scots more often than not prevailing.
Doubt many would have disagreed before Tuesday.
As it turned out…on this occasion…. Swedes prevail.
Of itself a precursor of severe disappointment.
On this occasion a precursor of heart rending angst.
Why?
The truly woeful, insiped and gutless performance.
It’s not the defeat…its the manner of it that has really torn out our vitals!
The last bit was a tad over dramatic but….its really upset the proverbial apple cart.
