Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

  1. Having just been a bit hasty myself, I suppose we should wait until Wednesday before getting all hot and bothered about whatever the SPFL decide.

  2. I agree James, if this is what they are planning things will get a whole lot worse, I can see the SFA expelled for a time from UEFA and we know who that will effect.

  3. Is that THE Yogi Hughes?

Makes no difference to the excellence of the news , of course, but I know THE Yogi has been on CQN before.

He’s been around a while and he probably has plenty of connections. He’s obviously spoken to somebody at the SPFL and that’s what they have told him without giving him a direct quote.

If anything, he’s doing us a favour by telling us it’s a stitch up. He was the one who told us that there was “no appetite” for title stripping from those running the game.

He’s not passing comment on the validity of either position. Just relaying what he’s informed.

    In other words…..

They’ve decided what to do (nothing) and are now looking for a lawyer who will tell them what they want to hear.

  11. Celtic asked for a review. The spfl board have acceeded to this and their board will review with their lawyers present. They’ll be advised nothing can be done. They’ll then announce this advice and no action.

o Will the SPFL review be open and transparent and if not why not?

o Will the Terms of Reference of the Review be published in advance ?

o Will those appointed to carry out the review be independent and published in advance?

o Will proceedings be public ?

o Will the Review decision be published in detail ? (as per The Supreme Court decision)

You could have saved yourself the wait panic and stress if you had tried to activate the tickets online for section 111, I managed to do it on Saturday so it was a relatively stress free weekend

Anyway just imagine you were sunning yourself in Magaluf last Wednesday and came back to find out your not able to attend the game on Wednesday because of other people pushing their politics down everyone’s throat

Anyway lovely evening out there I think I will manage 18 holes before sunset

The SPFL decision is predetermined, we know whats coming. So did PL we assume, thats likely why he has stood down from the SPFL Board, to distance himself from the decision. The big question is, what comes next?

And another point, we were told those who were comprised wouldn’t decide what happens next. Well, it looks like they are doing just that. A big GIRFUY to every decent and honest follower of Scottish Football. What are we going to do about it? We’re getting pi**** all over here.

If Celtic take this the full road and get no joy, we could give the SPFL 2 years notice, which i believe is minimum notice period required

  26. So the Trinity is now broken, hope it doesn’t affect the team on the park, although going with Brendans analysis it will and must have an effect. I think Auldheid mentioned earlier that he remembers one of the gb saying at a meeting before that it was the intention of the gb to get the club in trouble with Uefa. I believe this is what has happened again, the gb do not believe that it was the psni who stopped the Celtic support from attending at Windsor park they believe it was our board, hence the banner last week. This is a fight between Ronnie Hawthorn, Police Scotland and the board against the gb but more than this, and let’s be frank here, they all despise the Celtic away support. We are due Linfield, the psni or the orange order nothing so why did CFC say that they would move things around to help them out and bend over for those that hate us and all for the 12th july bigotfest. If they’d done this then the 1st game would’ve been played at a neutral venue or CP. The gb and the securicrats in our board are having a low intensity conflict, both are at fault.
