Avoiding bad Fortune

789

I read our treble-winning captain, Tom Boyd, in the Herald advising Celtic to retain players who want away or decline to sign new contracts, until after their Champions League qualification ties, an idea we discussed some time ago.  Tellingly he added, “They will see when they go down south it’s not always as bright down there as they think it will be”, perhaps a reference to his time in the Chelsea defence.

There is unlikely to be much difference in value achieved between selling before or after the qualifiers, so as long as the players stay on-side with Neil Lennon and the club, there will be no reason to sell before then.

Recruiting is a different matter.  Celtic will want players in as soon as possible but with all in-demand talent, selling clubs have little reason to cash-in before the business end of August.  For me, there are some on the list we are currently linked with (I’m trying to avoid stepping onto the speculation train as long as possible) who I’ll be happy to see sign elsewhere.  Half the battle in transfer windows is to avoid the bad Fortune of splurging money on players who don’t work out.

I was thinking about the word that a couple of people on this site yesterday used to describe one of the most skillful Celts I ever saw.

It leaves me wondering whether it has made me angry or made me sick.

    I suppose both.

Using such a word about ANY person is unforgivable.

It demeans the person who uses it, rather than his target.

To respond to crude violence by resorting to that same kind of behaviour is not a sign of courage. It merely displays a lack of self control.

The pacifist is not a pacifist because he is a coward.

More often, it is an indication of strength.

The great Celt who was insulted by these fools was not a COWARD.

He was a gifted & intelligent sportsman.

He was possibly my favourite Celtic player of all time.

Apart from STAN,I don’t think Barnes/Dalglish signed ANYONE I was happy to see in the team.

And Scheidt wisnae even the worst of them-that accolade has to go to Olivier Tebily.

First Celtic player my sister ever launched abuse at-just minutes after hammering me for doing the same!!!!

Che – I was reading on ETims the other day that the club managed to punt Slater on for a million or something like that? No real damage done there.

Berkovic was sold on for £1.5million,that was a big hit the club had to take,a lose of over £4million.

I lived in London when Slater signed for us,my Hammer mates were livid as they adored him.

And with good reason,he was outstanding!

To this day I am at a loss why his game disappeared when he joined us.

Happy Birthday to Alex Byrne- didn’t realise he was quite as old. My dad always thought he should have achieved more as he had ‘more fitba’ in him than most of his peers

Bobby M – It is incredible when you think of the money they squandered.

Fair play to the club for releasing the funds, but it was a mental policy.

I can remember us beating Aberdeen away from home,in his first league game – and we destroyed them, one of the most complete performances that i can remember from a Celtic team.

It all went downhill after that, sadly.

Diet on your recovery phase has as big an impact as your treatment. Lots and lots of fruit and veg, must be organic and filtered water.

Look online for dietary advice and at talk to your doc regarding this.

Cancer can be beaten as lots of previous posts can attest to.

  13. Tom McLaughlin @ 11:08,

Just seen the comments and read back, that is some tough news.

I guess as you were feeling well within yourself in was a bigger shock, however the investigations should let you know exactly what your up against, there are options these days.

Well your Clan motto is “Brave and True” it strikes me you have those qualities in abundance, it’s times like these when we need our strenghts.

    Good Luck GCT.

  15. A wee fact is that CQN’s OrginalSadiesbhoy had a hand in making Tom Boyd a footballer

OrginalSadiesbhoy was our primary school football coach/manager, where Thomas and I first played an organised game for the school team , St Bridgets in Bailleston .

Afternoon troops, I’ve decided to fill my i phone up with new music. I have loads of music on a couple of hard drives but now want to discover some new stuff.

People often discuss music on here so i’m guessing some of you guys could suggest some good music to download.

I mostly like alternative, grungy, indie, blues rock, blues, 60’s but am willing to give anything a try. Cheers in advance for any suggestions.

  18. Tom, very sorry to read your news. Stay strong.

First visit me the summer season to George Square. Some interesting sights.

  19. Good luck GCT on your battle. I had a wee scare in that area last year as my PSA numbers had rocketed, I too had a biopsy, the 3rd in about 20 years, luckily all was well and I had a 6 month follow up last week to be told “see you next year”.

During that waiting period however I was comforted by friends of my age who told me about the advances in medication now.

A wee bit of advice for the younger man out there, prostrate and colon cancer can be beaten if caught it time, so get tested. I know the finger eye test isn’t very pleasant, my first prostrate test was in my early 40’s so it’s never too early.

  20. wycombebhoy @ 13:14,

    How’s it going?

I noticed in some of the Charolette Fakes Documents, CW’s new company was referred to as Glasgow Rangers, a name they never applied in the end – thought of you:-)

You’ll have to come over and watch a game in Wycombe, we can try to prise a few of your old buddies oot.
