  1. Until the Champions League returns to a proper knock-out competition which only involves championship winning teams then I have no interest in this bastardised version of the cup we won in 67. I didn’t watch tonight’s match and won’t watch any of the rest. It’s the rich man’s table and we are lucky if we are served crumbs. If we had any pride, we and the other clubs in our predicament, would tell the Uefa bigwigs to go and take a feck to themselves. Leave them to their four guaranteed teams from England, Spain, Germany and Italy and set up an alternative champions cup for the rest. There’s simply no point being in this competition to make up the numbers.

  2. So this year level 5 have tried to tell us that we had the worst result EVER in European competition by anyone (Lincoln Red Imps) and then tonight ‘ the lowest point in our history’.

    Usual pash.

We kmow we’re miles in front in Scotland but miles away from Barca.

    That won’t change.

We will take some sore ones like tonight in the years ahead but we’ll have some great results as well.

Barca will horse Monchen and Man City as well.

On the plus side the fans can show the world in 3 games how Paradise on a European night really can help to win matches.

How do non-champions end up winning the Champions league? Unfair organisation of a tournament perhaps. But it is at least able to be understood.

A 4 year old club being officially backed in its claim to have won 54 top tier titles despite debuting this season in same, while the other clubs in the top tier silently accept this, takes the game here into the realms of utter farce.

No glory to be found therein.

    Ya basta!

(That’s Spanish for enough already. Wish Barca had thought it at 3.)

  4. Fellow CQN er’s……..think this is one of the few times that we all agree the goalie looked poor, and Gamboa mesmerized, BUT no serious recriminations (although I am gutted at 7-0). We are back tasting the big league, had the worst possible group……so we know what we should attempt to do going forward.

Big money to spend, but bigger Business Plan required…….over to you Ian Bankier and Peter Lawell……you are smart enough to put it together, but need to have the ambition

    Hail all Celtic fans

Praecepta, I don’t think I feel any worse about tonight than when we were in Barca in 2013. At least in 2013 we had a penthouse, hunners of green balloons, some blaw and an entertaining teenager (and I don’t mean TET).

The result may be similar but at least now we have a chance of improving, we were pretty static back in 2013 as the next seasons showed.

As I said earlier, a bit of perspective is needed.

BTW, I can see Barca doing that to BMG and Man C at the Camp Nou, maybe not to the same extent, but that again would show where we are. This is far from the worst night to be a Celtic supporter, as some have suggested, it doesn’t even come close.

Cowiebhoy, no. Totally incorrect. They’re 498 Million in debt.

Fair point on the mood swings.

However we didn’t turn up tonight.

It was poorer than I ever could have imagined.

Just a collection of all our worst nightmares.

We have made progress — the evidence is in the public domain.

However we still — as tonight proved — have a long way to go to get the “fear” out of our system.

I come back to my point about Alves.

Maybe it is because of familiarity and a much more rigorous league but they managed to cope. We were just Wee boys trying to play a man’s game.

Accepting a defeat as heavy and complete as this means that we have no right to be in the CL group stages — we are just hillbilly tourists being patronised — and EUFA have got it right to further limit our chances of further participation.

To me tonight was not acceptable in any way shape or form.

We need to to use the rest of the season to claw back our CL credibility.

The old TFOD tennis score jibe does not sound funny any more.

  8. So using the SMSM scale of Celtic of manager performance that makes Brendan Rodgers worse than Ronny Deila.

On the other hand playing against one of the worlds best teams we got shown how far we have fallen.

this is not a fault of Celtic but a failure of the suits in control of Scottish football to generate any significant money in the league we play in.

7-0 and we were out played, any other Scotish team and it would have been double figures.

  9. ACGR

True – but at least we got to do the ‘huddle’ in among the Barca supporters when our Greek Ghod Sammi scored! :-)

  10. Barca were so good tonight they managed to find Joey Barton with a pass.

Not bad considering he’s been missing since Friday.

  11. macjay1 for Neil Lennon on

    Interesting thought.

    If I had been offered a trade off 5 – 1 win huns for 0 – 7 Barca , I would have taken it .

HT, that doesn’t surprise me cos I know you and the fat hun gardener are very good pals. Really good I heard.

  13. Cowiebhoy Beatbhoy sumdybhoy embfybhoy

I agree that CL is full of hun cheats and that SFA thingummy is full of euro debt cheats.

Heated driveway peasants of the world unite!

    Come on

    lets sign a petition

  14. Have NOT read back yet.

    Honest appraisal:

    Aye, 7-0.

Now you (lurking Hun scum excepted) know what the luring Hun scum felt like on Saturday.

Playing v the VERY BEST, you cannot afford to:

    a) switch off after 2 minutes

    b) Miss the golden chance.

    c) play the 2nd half like they were Sevco.

    However…

THAT is what you played for over July/August.

THAT is what you wished for.

Wouldn’t swap it for a moment in the Europa.

Our players faced the VERY BEST and got humped.

They treated us with the utmost respect, played their superstars and tore us apart in that 2nd half.

IF our players are halfway decent as pros they can only learn from such defeats.

Young Moussa goes from hero to zero in the kick of a ball.

    De Vreis realises a backie-inner can’t match a Gordon-esque shot-stopper in the Nou Camp. His free-kick flap was a killer for 3-0.

ALL our players get a PHENOMENAL kick up the arse which will mean we utterly tear apart the best the SPL can throw at us for the rest of the season.

What Brendan will realise is the true potential of players that harbour high hopes of making the big-time.

7-0 is a bitch. Barca were after the Real Madrid record 8-0 humping of Malmo (yes, greeters- the team that thoroughly horsed US last season to qualify) but thankfully fell short of the 9 they wanted.

Ultimately, we got off with 7.

Ultimately you need to dismiss it as a true lesson and focus on what we can achieve for the rest of the season.

Our team is NOT punching above their weight- outr team is blindfolded, slapping at the Masterblaster in the CL thunderdome. If we get out alive, we win. tonight we got mauled; suck it up, Tims, and face the future – it was but 3 points; the pressure now falls on the rest to match Barca.

Will now read back. Fck you bitter knee-jerk reactionists in advance…

  15. Man Citeh, in a genuine derby match away from home, minus the best striker in the EPL, played the best 40 minutes of football seen in 20 plus years of that competition on Saturday.

Guardiola doesn’t just want to win games, he wants to revolutionise the game. They’re not Barca, but Enrique’s not Pep.

  16. Mad Mitch

Acceptable or not – it happened. And while the gulf is so large it will happen again.

However, if it were to happen again at the next home CL tie with Man City, we would have a problem. We must, at least, be more competitive in that match if we are to do anything with Borussia to gain a 3rd place spot.

Lick our wounds and build up confidence in the next 3 domestic ties. We have a chance to give Gamboa some game time so that he knows his defensive mates a bit better. And we have a chance to give Craig Gordon the Alloa game, at least, to make a total judgement on shot stopping vs kick out proficiency

  17. Right – I’m off to my kip!

Hope I don’t have any nightmares about Snow White (Celtic) and Madmitch’s 7 scoring Dwarfs (those Barca Midgets).

    :-)

  18. Never mind about the result tonight.

I did not expect us to get anything out of this said match.

Ok we were truly humped by a team who can win the CL

this year & we are in the most difficult group of this year’s

CL Group Stages let’s be honest here these matches are

bonus matches to our Season but also can be learning a

curve as well @ that level okay so we are in the big

money boys play ground. It’s not the end of the world &

we will certainly bounce back from these setbacks that’s

    for sure COYBIG

  19. Ah no.

Not content with his plan to take over the world with his Celtic Trust acolytes now it seems he has connections to the Fat Gardener.

Hamilton Tim I do hope my big, wee, sister was not wrong about you :-)

  20. I see BR is being asked again if he’s embarrassed…did these same guys ask tragic hat if he was embarrassed last Saturday ?

I’m iff to bed, I can’t take the pop up adds any longer :)

Oiche mhaith mo chairde agus na ceiltigh abu !

  21. Oki doki.

It’s over thank goad. Wee reality check unfortunately. However…

Pick yourself up, dust yourself down, and start all over again.

Come on you bhoys in green!!

  22. Let me carlify tath.

Pep wants to revolutionize how the game is played down there.

Others may be looking for a different kind of revolution, understandably.

HT, I heard you were the steak bakes gardener. Teachers and moonlightling, FFS use your holidays better……….:_)

BTW, its on nights like this that a man faces some tough decisions. Do I:

    A. Keep the game in the memory so the boy can watch it again when he comes back from Uni at Christmas.

    B. Delete the game and download as much hard core porn and plenty of it so the boy can watch it again when he comes back from Uni at Christmas.

    I’m glad I’m no a fighter pilot.

Right, I’m away to watch a horror movie and I don’t mean a re-run of the game.

HT, if anything comes up on the ticket front for the boy, drop me a text.

HH to you and yer minx

    Option C.

Do what the North Koreans do and tell him we won 8-7!

    Owen

Like the rest of us you’re just too afraid to disagree with her :-)

  27. ACGR

I was once asked to go round and trim my neighbours front bush by my wife. The hysterical collapse was completely lost on her.

  28. Magsghirl

I demand the right to watch Celtic in the least rigged competition in which they play this season.

    Any Citeh at Paradise spares?

Saw Gladbach v Köln in seventies, so feel I’m due one for that, anyone who’s worrying they might mention the war at that one.

I definitely won’t, bestimmt nicht. Was für ein Weltkrieg, Hans?
