Physically dominated by a team of midgets.
That is how bad we were — Barnsley in the EPL bad.

Like in 1967 when a wee, red headed midget from Viewpark terrorised the best defence in world football?

Expecting us to beat or even compete with Barca at this stage of our redevelopment is about as realistic as the GASL telling his gullible season ticket holders that they expect to be competing with us this season and be in the Champions League next season.

Very disappointing. Yes thumped by the best team in the world but some very poor defending. And I think the goalkeeper is a mistake.

We were obviously beaten by a far better team. But the scorline was poor. That could have been a 4-1 or 3-1.
Individual errors cost us at both ends. Can’t exclude the manager from that either.
The need for a solid DM has been clear for some time. McGregor in the 92nd minute was the only time I saw a run being tracked.
Early days for De Vries, but not too convinced so far. Could we have pushed the boat out and got Marshall?
Defenders ball-watching and not seeing players making runs in behind them. Not good enough.
First half was actually not too bad. Second 45 was really poor. Is fitness an issue? Did we throw in the towel? Hopefully not.
We got the shape wrong, tactics wrong, tried to play football which was probably a mistake… Gamboa thrown in at the deep end didn’t look like he knew what to do and I think it would have been far less embarrassing if Gordon was in.

You are quite right. Some perspective (and patience) required.
Realisticly, if we were to say feck it and spend like there is no tomorrow, well spend say 50 million a year and not pay it back, it would take us at least 10….that would be ten years to even dream of reaching the level of the likes of the team that spanked us tonight, think about that bhoys, just let that sink in, ten years @ 50 million a year.
Most of the EPL will never make a CL game, they will waste £ millions a year just cos they can, I would rather get humped by the best by being there that never getting the chance to get humped.
Tho I wouldn’t have done wot Brendan did tonight :-)

THIS is a rigged game?
Have Leicester claimed they’ve won more Big Cups than Real Madrid or something?
That was just the 6th competitive match played by Brendan Rogers’ Celtic team, and only one of the previous five away games featured more than half of tonight’s starting line-up in their own starting XI… and that was the 0-2 reverse in Israel with just six of the same starting XI.
BR’s team is still in its embryonic stages.
Just saying like.

Most were obvious like nilloc the pilock. Most of what I see here tonight are genuinely hurt Celtic fans talking utter shite. I don’t think that’s trolling but I’m no expert.
I thought we lost as many goals from our left as we did from the right ?
Bitton silly free kick – again – around 22 yards oot, he does this most games
And Messi’s 3rd a static Toure and Bitton as he ran in for it
Can I also add, on the penalty, just me, but I like a player who takes a run and shot, not the 2 steps Moussa had, mind you his record is 50% on penalties :-)
Onwards to Inverness Bhoys, we were always going to struggle tonight
Sorry… that should have read: “That was just the 6th competitive AWAY match”

jinkyredstar, I’d rather chat about drams than that game tonight but some of the pish on here tonight is compelling reading.
If you’re going to the Mac C game get in touch, will probably arrange a wee session in the Pot Still after the game.
“We have moved on, we are moving on, we have made progress.
Better team, better balance, better self belief.
Not the finished article but pretty competitive.”
Tonight it’s all :-
“Physically dominated by a team of midgets.
That is how bad we were — Barnsley in the EPL bad.”
and “A gulf in desire and attitude is shameful.
A gulf in energy and intensity is shameful.
We were physically dominated by a team of midgets — Barca worked / kicked / shoved us of the park. That is how badly we played tonight — laughing stock.”
It just reads as intemperate judgements fluctuating wildly game by game. The “pretty competitive” assessment was in response to me saying this year’s Euro form was weak (you seemed to think I was obsessing about RD but I was referring to this season)
As it happens, I do not think we were anywhere near as bad tonight as we were in Gibralter and Israel. We just had the misfortune to meet a team from another level. In any batch of 10 games against them we will lose around 6 to 8 and we will, perhaps fluke a win every 10th game or so.
I saw fewer players affected by abject fear tonight than I witnessed in those earlier European ties. Brendan is evolving and improving them but it would take a 5 to 10 year project, with different levels of financing available, before we got close to being competitive with them, in the sense of having a 50:50 chance of success.
We have lost these type of games badly while being defensive and we have lost games being offensive in Europe- it is about a lot more than just wishful thinking tactics. Talent, when it works hard will always beat a lesser team, even when they too work hard.

My disappointment was about fitness and sharpness. I know Barcelona are exceptional but we looked so far behind. Train harder. Players are gifted but need to strive for better. Player’s professional pride should kick in. Sport is an area where improvement is obvious.
Two more things. No more playing with 2 wingers in important games. Our midfield is not mobile enough. Other thing Bitton is not very good in his position.
Eight shots on target seven goals scored. Not bad average . Does not say to much about our goalie

Messi/Suarez/Neymar in 2 seasons together (+ including as of tonight) = 266 goals + 128 assists. Tonight’s game: 15 shots/ 10 on target = 7 goals!
Unless (come December) we’re tied with Barca for top or 2nd spot – I don’t think head-to-head will matter much. Painful yes – by all means let’s have an inquest but our target should be 3rd place an a last 32 Europa League spot.

Looking at the long term, this result is an aberration. Should win at home and by a proud margin too. Statistics can prove anything.
Few comments on the game. I thought we far too static defensively, made it easier for them to carve us up. I would have booted Neymar early doors. Great players should not need to play act, he deserved a kick.
Always disappointed when we lose, but I thought Barca ran it up a bit and that stung a wee bit.
I think BM and MC will see us as easy marks, lets hope we prove the wrong
