  1. Clydesider, that stat is frightening.

using my fingers and thumbs, they each score,………. loads every season.

or over 40 on average per season. Wow.

  2. Did anybody actually believe we would win tonight?

No need to worry about the number of goals conceded,as goal difference doesn’t count in Champions league.

If we beat Barca 7-0 at home, then we are level with them on our head to head.

Let’s believe we can beat Monchengladbach in our head to head.

  3. Maggie, lets see how we get on the the other 5 games, 3 of those at CP, that was the first, and hardest game of this league.

1 game in, I’m not for throwing in the towel.

  4. No I didn’t think we’d win tonight

    No

    I’m so pissed at everything

Barcelona were beaten in their last league game

Did we really think we could take them on

We should have parked the bus

    Stupid

  5. SHEIK YERBOUTI

So you’re still sticking to your original point that we and the manager were a disgrace the night.

That’s the word you used right disgrace???

  6. Any new player brought in against quality opposition is a gamble.

Sometimes it works tonight it didn’t .

Thought Lustig was poor so guy got no help.

The second goal both Lustig and Bitton ball watched and failed to track Messi’s run.

KT had a tough time but never quit.

Sinclair and Brown both played well.

Young Dembele showed flashes as did Roberts.

I think we have now learned we do not have the personnel to play a strictly defensive game in Europe.

I liked the O’Connell and Armstrong subs as they got experience in a tough arena.

WHAT IS THE STARS on 13TH SEPTEMBER 2016 10:01 PM

Making the group stages meant success

    anything else is a bonus

    Every season

    Priority 1 win the SPL

Priority 2 get to group stages champions

    after that its bonus

    =========================================

You been reading my script ?

    :-)

Europe after Christmas is the bonus.

I had mentally attuned myself to accepting that kind of result .

    I`m surprised anyone hadn`t.

  8. Parkheadcumsalford

Honestly, I could fill a page on here with times I’ve felt worse.

    Two wee points however.

We were poor tonight and even against such formidable opponents we should be defending better than we did.

Just because a quality, defensive midfielder wouldn’t have made a massive difference tonight, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have signed one.

I hope you and your oul da are well.

“Nobody wanted Celtic from pot 4″

    F*** me gently !

Is that a wish or a command?

Oh, wait, I forgot, you are really a man in disguise.

    Or a wee Glesga hairy

  10. Not seen enough of de Vries to form a proper opinion but i dont think he has the presence to be a Celtic keeper

Should have went for Randolf in the summer

  11. We got taken apart by a fantastic football team. With some of the best platers in the world. We lost badly.

    Guess what?

If we got access to the same TV revenue and or sugar daddy money the “top” clubs had then I would demand we competed against Messi,Suarez and Neymar alone.

We don’t we move on bloodied but unbowed.

  12. Sheik, We all love Celtic. If I was only interested in watching sublime football, I would follow Barca.

I’d prefer to watch Celtic play Inverness on a shitty night than watch Barca play in a Champions League Final.

We are all hurting but it’s how we express ourselves that counts.

I will not slate a Manager & players that made me ecstatic last Saturday, I’m hurting OK but I’ll keep it under wraps and I’ll get over it and by the time Celtic play again it will never have happened.

  13. SHEIK YERBOUTI on 13TH SEPTEMBER 2016 10:23 PM

My point is to everybody on here

If we accept a 7-0 defeat and not criticize

    Well that is unacceptable

    ————————–

The problem is what exactly should we be criticizing? We all know Barcelona are in a completely different level of football opposition week in week out and a class of player far and above our squad due to our domestic league holding us back from purchasing world class players.

I do not think there was one player in our team who did not put in 100% effort tonight barring DDV’s poor showing. The fact of the matter is we were outclassed by a far superior team, from a far superior league, which will only get worse in it’s current state unless there is a proper reconstruction of European competitions.

  14. Corkcelt.

Thankfully I quickly scrolled through and noticed your kind post.

    Results at hospital/ ok

Diagnosis of mast cell activation syndrome confirmed and it will continue to be relapsing and remitting. The very good news is that I don’t have indolent systemic mastocytosis. Back in 4 weeks for results of one last test. I think that’s about the best I could have hoped for. So I’m smiling.

My illness is a real pain but it’s not terminal. It’s intermittent so I will have ok spells, the unpredictable nature is difficult. However, Indolent systemic mastocytosis would have literally made me an invalid, in due course and I am clear of that.

I’m sorry I didn’t post earlier but my son came back from Cancun this afternoon and I was spending time with him and honestly with the game being on I was going to leave it until tomorrow.

Can i thank everyone for there prayers and best wishes, for those that believe in the power of prayer my results are as good as I hoped for, so thank you.

  15. I half expected a tanking tonight, but maybe not 0-7! But I actually felt worse at the weekend that we only scored 5 against the Tribute Act than I do after tonight’s lesson from The Masters.

At the end of the day we are only four players away from being a very good team at this level… Iniesta, Neymar, Suarez & Messi. Even the Tribute Act couldn’t have lived with Barca tonight, Wattenaccio or otherwise.

Alas, I’d rather be getting tanked by Barca in the Champions League than not be in it in the first place.

As I warned against earlier, sitting with what was effectively a back nine for most of the game, inviting them to come at us time and time again, was only going to end one way. Let us hope we learn some lessons from that before Manchester City come knocking…

But we have to accept that if we want to play with the big boys, then we have to be prepared to suffer results like this. As long as we do so with dignity and sporting spirit, then we can still hold our heads high and say “at least we were there”.

Now let’s go win a treble.

  16. Sheik, what would you criticise specifically?

The keeper wasn’t brilliant, but not awful.

Brown was resolute, Bitton retained some possession, Sinclair ran his lungs out, Roberts got past their lines on occassions. Tierney bombed forward when opportunity arose, Gamboa, impressed, Lustig, Toure Erik did have a hard shift, against, well players who make a front three who are averaging 40 goals per season, each.

Dembele was tireless, missed a pen, but also won it.

Perspective is difficult when hurting after a bad result, but always remember, we are in the top tier here.

Barcá will do this to other teams.

So, who, realistically could have done more?

We were outplayed, by a better team.

It might actually help us learn.

  17. Gulf in resources? Gulf in class? Lack of competition? Elite group of sides who can win it?

Barcelona are capable of doing to us what we do to others in the SPL. Now we know how the likes of Motherwell feel.

We are where we are and Barcelona are where they are on and off the pitch.

Enjoy these occasions while we can because I feel it’s only a matter of time until the big boys, with the help of UEFA do away with these mis-matches while the likes of us and any other non-English, Spanish, Italian, German, French sides end up playing in our own little Inter-toto type European competition scrapping over crumbs while the big boys continue to feast on larger and larger portions.

If Paul’s idea of “regionalisation” is to happen, it has to be soon because the more these results happen – the less we’ll be welcome in this competition.

  18. It’s OK to be IMMENSELY disappointed by the result and performance tonight but only because of the scale of defeat and the paucity of the performance.

That doesn’t seem to be unfair to me.

I am certain every member of the management from Brendan down to the most junior coach of the development sides believes 0-7 is not acceptable. That’s the whole point about being Celtic….striving for the best possible.

    Hamilton tim

    Why close ranks

    ——

Not amongst our own I wouldn’t mate. Not in front of them though, ever.

  20. Starting point would be some research on Alves.

What we had tonight was a textbook example of how a top notch 4-3-3 can monster a poorly set up, poorly motivated and poorly resourced 5 man defence.

We have weaknesses at FB and Barca just rubbed our noses in it.

Plus NB and SB were rank rotten.

Plus plus — DdV looks very suspect.

  21. SHEIK YERBOUTI

Nothing to do with an acceptance of a 7-0 defeat but then if you read the blog you would know that.

The CL has been bent out of shape for years how do you expect Celtic to have a level playing field against a team that has a tax cheat up front, a guy who cost 90 million euros and a 500 hundred million euro overdraft.

Awe right we should have signed a defensive midfielder..

    Got it..

There’s being a Celtic supporter and then there’s being realistic about how bent the game has become, remind where the champion of financial fair play is again..

  22. Sheihk- a wee bit of perspective maybe, yes 7 was very sore, BR is in the door 4 months and there is a huge difference with most of Deilas team? We could have and should have got another couple in, would it have made any difference tonight, ? For me the head to head v Borussia is what we are looking at for EL.Felt much worse after some defeats than tonight.HH

  23. HT,

I haven’t spoken to my oul da tonight, as he is very very hard of hearing but he is still as proud as ever to be a Celtic supporter. I inherited the gene.

I do agree about making quality signings. The more the better but I still feel strongly that we will really only improve as a team if we face formidable opposition week in week out. That simply isn’t going to happen in the SPFL, imo.

  24. Clydesider

    It’s football not rocket science

We need players who can tackle

    Stand up

We were the worst I’ve ever seen a Celtic team play

    Yes

    7-0

    Is unacceptable

  25. Humiliating. That’s 3 months Brendan has had, how can we not beat Barcelona, FFS, it was only the Nou camp.

Why didn’t Brendan try tactics like marking players? goodness me, all those passes going astray, you’d think Barca practise that for years.

Man mark Messi, Surrey and that wee cheat*Neymar. maybe double up on them, and man mark Iniesta out the game, we could’ve packed the defence too.

Duds throughout the team. Tierney, Brown and that Dembelle guy, missing a penalty. Players should never miss a penalty, that could’ve changed the game, or made it 7-1 (lurking huns Girfuy).

Those supporters who went, didn’t hear them once, obviously not real supporters Ffs.

Brendan your subs tonight, not one changed the game, how no?

Yeah I’ve just wrote a lot of senseless p!sh, but it’s a collection of stuff, that appears on cqn tonight, for the most part.

The bit attacking Celtic supporters will be in the SMSM tomorrow.

    * except he didn’t.

  26. JimmynotPaul, Really really pleased for you. That has cheered me up immensely, who gives a s**t about Barca.

  27. Brendan has done a fantastic job up to now but let’s not let any halo effect get in the way of two of the worst results we’ve had the misfortune to watch, and that’s without the game in Israel

He’s only human, criticizing him doesn’t mean he’s not the right person to lead us forward but that was really bad from him tonight.

  28. The sun will still rise tomorrow.

Strangely I’ve often felt far far worse after narrowly losing a last minute dubious winner.

One of Captain Browns best European games.

    Bed time – be nice.

  29. I’m not reading back. Some of you will be trying to replicate the sex dolls on display on Saturday – except wearing green and white scarfs.

We were on a hiding to nothing. Every pot 1 team Is between £500-£750m in debt. Celtic wouldn’t be allowed to owe a face painter £50 without the authorities trying to close us down. Remember the DR hearse?

I expected a 3 or 4 goal defeat. Yeah, 7 is tough to take but Barca beat Roma 6-0 away last year.

The only criticism I would make is of DDV in that Gordon would have,I believe, saved goals 1,3 and 5. I also thought at least 2 were offside.

This result is of no consequence. If we beat BMG over 2 games we’ll almost certainly have European fitba post Christmas.

    Keep the faith!
