Blinkered Views risky punt against St Mirren

1113

In his Bookies Corner article for the current issue of CQN Magazine, columnist, Blinkered Views, suggested St Mirren offered good value for a punt on relegation.  I spoke to him when he submitted the article and suggested, “Surely Dunfermline?”  He agreed Dunfermline were most likely for the drop but they offered no value.  St Mirren, on the other hand, were 9/1 for the drop and he made a good case why this was worth a bet.

St Mirren promptly spoiled Christmas for thousands (not your or me) by coming from behind to beat Rangers but that has been their only win in 8 league games.  We also don’t need to be reminded that when visiting St Mirren Park, form is a poor guide.  Celtic exited the Scottish Cup there a week after beating Saints 7-0 at Celtic Park.  They are a team who can raise their game for the big occasion and the visit of Celtic, live on TV, is as big as it gets around Paisley.

Paddy McCourt has enjoyed his visits there and has been key to Celtic collecting the points a couple of times.  Don’t be surprised if he makes a match winning appearance from the bench.

  1. RIP Janey Buchan. From her obituary in the Guardian

“By her own admission, Buchan was a good hater, equally willing to unleash her ferocious tongue on backsliding officials and councillors, errant Labour leaders – Michael Foot was the exception – and uncomradely leftwingers, Tony Benn and George Galloway included. She used to joke that her memoirs – not that she believed in memoirs (“all lies”) – would be called “Sh*ts I Have Known” and once teased Roy Hattersley: “There are two chapters on you.”

  2. I have never phoned Radio Clyde, but I did once win a copy of a Survivor album (featuring ‘Eye of the Tiger’), signed by Dougie Donnelly, in a Radio Clyde competition.

Magic stuff, and I concur with your theory that RTC and Adam could be one and the same.

Too many posters over there full of their own self importance.

    Oranges, oranges so much oranges.

  4. DBBIA,

When you had you’re mini-flounce yesterday lunchtime I wondered if lent had started. I phoned my mum who checked her White Fathers calendar which confirmed that it wasn’t yet lent. Sure enough, ten minutes later the flounce was over and you were back on the bhlog.

Just as well, as I’m not yet ready to give up on the ole E-fags for 6 weeks.

Clearly a very intelligent articulate poster, cannot understand why you are trading blows with the blog idiot, for that’s what he is in spite of what his fawning fan club on here would have you believe. Wee tip – never argue with idiots, a complete waste of time.

  7. Skint huns sign a player just so they can be weird and twisted about his name.

I can see your point and like you say it is a matter of choice. There will always be people who will call these shows – and I often get the impression some folk listen to them in order to have something to get riled about. I watch Question Time for the same reason.

While I agree the sycophantic approach of the media towards Rangers is deeply unhealthy, it is that club and their fans that have suffered more than anyone. Tough.

Rangers are in a situation where they are beyond saving should they lose the big tax case as expected. Our energy should be spent elsewhere – not calling no-marks on the radio, but pursuing the people who run Scottish football on issues like the UEFA licence – which I know from your posts on here and RTC has been a passion of yours for some considerable time. You have championed the good fight over tainted titles and how they should be removed if Rangers are found guilty over the tax issue, and there is the small matter over Newco and their immediate place in the Scottish league structure.

I hope Celtic are getting ready for a big scrap on these issues. Keep up the good work.

    My dear,dear Kev Jungle.

I’d have thought it extremely unlikely that our fine young manager would ever consider signing Skacel.

Perhaps you have forgotten the infamous spitting incident involving the pair during a match in May 2006 ?

I notice that Cultsbhoy(who may yet furnish us with proof that he is a direct descendant of Brian Boru), is also touting Skacel The Spitter.

Well I’ll bet that the miscreant European was the toast of Corporate Hospitality that particular day.

    Signing? No !

An invite along for a feisty ‘bounce’ match , behind closed doors at Lennoxtown ?

    Now you’re talking…!

  10. Kev jungle, Steinreigneddupreme, greedjedi,

To be honest, I’d rather just drop the subject of the call altogether. I really hadn’t anticipated this much fuss about it.

see you´ll soon be the huns imposters best friend OR those that have had their bahooky well skelped by me in the past.

Moonbhoy falls into both categories. Greenjedi the latter, You ??? we shall see .. we shall see …. shah shah ago go if you can take it like a man or a wee sweetie wife … time will tell

Captain Bob was good but maybe only two huns on the RTC board is enough.

I am glad he´s dead actually. It made my skin creep pretending to be one of them. It is honestly the first and last time I will ever do so. It is definitely something you need practice with. Too many wee us youse etc. the RTC bloh as served its purpose I would imagine it will soon be over with.

Although I have used the internet since it was Arpanet and was actually the manager of only two European gateways at one point for Arpanet .. more than 20 years … the Celtic support have still to catch on what it actually is. Also I think a lot of them think its an electronic extension of the Sunday post. Although many of them are so far up their ain jacksies they can float

  16. I think what happens with the Skacels of this world is they score some memorable goals – often against us – and some folk take that as a litmus test of some sort. I remain unconvinced he would be there when the chips were down. Teams, Hearts are one in particular who set up specifically to play against us (Or not play against us) and they often benefit from us chasing a game if they get a Skacel 25 yarder. Skacel in a Celtic jersey would find it a lot harder to get the space he does on a football field…
