  1. The tragic sudden end to Paul McConville’s life puts any trivial sporting victory or defeat into perspective. My thoughts tonight are with his stunned family & friends.

    Rest in Peace, Paul.

  2. I think we are at Halfway house, we play in league that’s gives us a good chance to get into the Champions League each year, but once your there the Big ashow starts .

We want better players but they cost big money. We feel we can compete with Europes best but let’s be realistic history for the last 40 years shows we lack the skills/finance/ players to do so

But we have a huge oppertunity now to make money and more importantly build a young team with know real serious challenger , and

That I feel is the biggest failing we are making just now.

Legs see what we could do with our young players, we have the whole season left to discover this, the question is does the Manager feel the same way …

  3. Disappointing campaign but we got what we deserved. Perhaps lack of class, injuries, sending offs and not taking chances all sum it up.

Milan were make to look better than they were tonight by our poor play. Tactically not so hot as well in a lot of the games so not all blame on players. Manger can only work with what he has got of course but plying only two midfield players against their 4 at times recipe for disaster. Sammi and Forrest are never going to track back so we get overrun.

We never move the ball forward with tempo which was the hallmark of older Celtic teams. We always go backwards and give their defence time to set up hence our lack of goal scoring opportunities. So not only a decent forward but help in midfield is urgently required.

Will; the suits spend (will they come) is always the question.

I like Charlie but he is too slow and static for midfield.

Never mind always next year but squad needs overhauled.

  4. Johnny Clash .

The carbonara was excellent . The man can cook.. I resisted his ” Nero D Avola ” until the second goal went in and then it was pass the disinfectant antiseptic tranquilliser , per favore..

Will need several espressos tomorrow morning !

If the boards ambition was to progerss in the CL, they would have kept the promise they made to the support….

And that was to re invest all the money in the team…they lied.

We have millions in the bank, and no euro football next year.

Now we may argue what is ambition or not, but the fact is they gambled and the gamble failed big time.

Your stuff acgr is picking up looks good btw.

  6. Turkeybhoy,

Yes I did rake risk mentioning Finnbogason tonight but even the the sceptics and dreamers have realised we missed a trick with that lad, top scorer in the Dutch league, how many would have scored in the significantly weaker SPFL ? but more importantly would he have been on the end of the dozens of chances we’ve created in the C.L ?

It doesn’t matter now anyway as he’s probably worth £7 million and definitely off the radar

  7. The Honest Mistake loves being first on

Today’s the day I realised we can’t compete every year.

We’ve got the best support in the world but we don’t have the finances to compete with a Milan team in disarray. From manager to players we are in a different league. I’ll celebrate the victories even more.

The board seem to only want to spend enough to get us into the group stages.Did not even do that this year, and we nearly did not get there through this absurd thinking. No excuses for them.I said before the game that Lenny was going to war with no bullets.

  9. We are a mediocre team playing in a 2nd rate league. We have plummeted since last season also and the selling of Hooper has cost us dearly. Then again I am sure we all know this.

  10. Are Balde, Biton, Rogic, Pukki, McGeouch, all so bad that none could be given a run of games before the end of November?

Boerigtter had two medicals before he signed, never fit and played the ball backwards to Izzy all night.

In Europe you need to compete in midfield, we were restricted by suspensions.

However 2 wingers and 2 wing backs does not help win the midfield.

Kayal, has he ever played 90 minutes? I know he has never completed 2 games in a row.

Commons, no pace no tricks, out his depth in Europe.

We finished tonight with 3 left footers in the midfield!

Ledley not started due to contract negotiations stalling.

Our starting midfield should have been L

  11. The signs were evident in the CL qualifiers that we lacked a serious edge in the final third.

Its no surprise to me as to how this campaign has panned out as we dont have an established Centre Forward. Why replace your prolific goalscorer Hooper with 2 projects who didnt have a scoring record. The money spent on Pukki and Balde couldve got us the striker the team badly needed.

I think we have definitely competed at this level but the lack of investment has killed us. I’d like to see us move on the likes of Forster, Ledley, Kayal, Stokes & Samaras and rebuild again.

As well as bringing in the Striker we need i’d like us to take a look at May (St Johnstone), Taylor Sinclair (Partick Thistle) and Gauld & Armstrong (Dundee Utd)

We shouldnt get too arrogant by turning our back on domestic players if they’re good enough as we’ve had some good ones over the years such as McClair, Walker, Coyne, Boyd, Collins, Robson, McDonald, Mark Wilson, Hartley, McNamara etc

  12. They were better than us. We got pumped.

At this level we need to curtail superior opposition’ s better players by having a strategy that contains them whilst hoping for one moment of opportunity for us and taking it.

We did it V Man Utd, free kick, magic Naka; V Barca, big Vic free header, Xavi mistake, TW fearless ; V Moscow, defender slips, Hoops swoops, goal.

We do not have good enough players, at CL level, to play an attacking front four; we barely have enough quality to do it in the SPFL, where we are regularly outplayed but pedestrian 5 man midfields!

I still love being a Celtic fan. Nights like tonight are rubbish but Karagandy and Ajax at home have been great nights. Enjoy Mikael and VVD as you did Vic67 and Naka whilst you can.

Right just need to thrash the ole Hertz on Sunday. It’s a long while to next season’s CL qualifiers.

The biggest disappointment tonight wasn’t even playing. Our club captain contributed to our downfall and enormous financial loss.

Ironically I have long since discounted him on both his form and temperament , although not his ability. I’ve always felt he was not a fit for Celtic. Just when his form starts to show some consistency and he is meriting a place in the team he lets his temperament undo him.

The Club should cash in and punt him while his reputation is high at International level. Simultaneously reducing future risk .

Given we have another I impeded run to next year’s Champions league we need to cut our losses on the myriad of £1m mediocrities and get a few £5m guys in to avoid a repeat of this campaign.

    We won’t tho…

  15. TET,I usually agree with you but not tonight on the FF issue.I asked you,”How close does it have to be for him to take control.Tonight it was 3-4 yards.Jesus,he could have stayed on his line stretched his arms out and punched it.He is clueless with anything coming into the box.Saturday being another example.

When you shop in Lidl you pick up the odd bargain, but generally get what you pay for.

We deserved our tags as 4th seeds tonight. Seems so far away from the Milan away game when we played them off the pitch for much of the game. No strength in depth in our squad and our players certainly did not punch above their weight tonight.

Still trying to decide if it was a bad day at the office, or whether we just got our desserts for weakening our squad in the Summer.

Lets not be kidded that Barca are our friends next year. Win our games and dont depend on their “we’ll do you a favor nonsense”!!. Look after ourselves first as they do.

  18. Our defending of set pieces was found lacking.

    Our finishing was found lacking.

The performance wasn’t vintage but we were largely undone by our own mistakes.

Don’t like Sami as a lone striker mind…

Very sad to hear the news about Paul McConville, which it puts the football result into perspective. Thoughts with his family and friends, especially those on here.

  20. 2 goals scored, one a penalty the other a deflection but wat can u do wile we’re competing under these financial conditions

Hopefully we learn and improve next year with the help of the board

    He will be sorely missed.

Absolutely agree with you. The boy Gauld is what we do not currently have……

a footballing midfielder with an eye for a defence splitting pass. Snap him up ASAP.

  23. Just as i see/saw things….

    1. Why did we set out as we did v Juve?

    2. Zonal: We’ve had an excellent record defending corners using this system. Why did it fail tonight?

    3. Thought Derk & Issy were very threatening in first half…don’t understand the extreme criticism of Derk by some on here.

    4. Thought James F worked really hard and was by a long way not our weakest player. Really OTT some of the remarks about the young fella.

    5. Mikel L has become one of my favourite players. Not only has heart but talent too. Thought both our full backs were the best players.

    6. Such a real pity we’ve slipped backwards from last season. Bringing new players in following the departures would have made things tricky anyway but we’ve made some poor choices. Or so it seems at the minute.

    7. At the risk of stating the bleeding obvious… A striker…a genuine midfield playmaker….please!!!

    8. Disappointed… not devastated.

  25. Just back. Hugely disappointed but I had a real sense walking to match that this wasn’t going to be a good night.

    Random thoughts.

    1. Neil needs to answer why his 2 big summer signings – Pukki and Balde, were not considered good enough to feature in this match. It looks like we have massively wasted scarce resources here.

    2. Our style of play is boring and predictable. We are a very, very easy team to play against. We need some creatitivity in the midfield

    3. The surprise posed by Sammi has gone.

    4. At 22, James Forrest’s career is at a crossroads. Neither he nor Boerritger seem able to cross the ball.

    5. The dismissal of Scott Brown has crippled us. But hey, we all love Barca and their cheating moaning debtmonster megastars.

    6. The referee was the usual UEFA appointed bungster, there to make sure there would be no shocks.

Finally, the Green Brigade… Bobby Sands? Hmmm.

But William Wallace? FFS! That was the only time I laughed all night!

  26. TET, we will find that out in the finances come out, but there is transparency in our club.

We will find out what has been done with every penny.

TurkeyBhoy see the above. We spend what we earn.

To say otherwise is to accuse our board of dishonesty, we supply yearly accounts, see above.

I’m not doing the accounting for you, but if you think we haven’t spent what we earn, show me where. How much is still in the bank?

What do you think has happened to the extra money?

And remember the infrastructure changes at CP being paid for, in part by the club.

  27. totally sick & scunnered tonight , havent read back yet dont even know if i will . but one thing i do know i am still proud to have been born & bred a celtc man & that will never change . & dont forget lads we could be like the scum on the other side of the city facing administration in the face . oh yes i am still a happy chappy hail hail
