Incredible that some are blaming supporters for our current predicament.

Let’s get this straight. Most of those in hoops today were an absolute disgrace to the Celtic jersey.

I suspect that Commons received such a positive performance because most Tims recognise:-

    1) his ability

    2) the passion he’s shown.

  3. I have nothing to add to what has been said.

Why not give Christie and Allan a game next week? Surely they couldn’t any worse in midfield than the current occupants……….

Imo, Brown needs rested, Bitton and Rogic seem to have gone awol and Commons is finished (has been all season).

  4. From Twitter

“The reason I want Leicester City to win the league is that they proved football is not only about money or a team filled with world class players. It’s also about PASSION, DETERMINATION and HARDWORK.”

We seem to be lacking in the CAPITALS.

  5. An Teach Solais on

Any Celtic player, IMHO, should be capable of mastering the basic skills of accurate passing. certainly over short and medium distances), ball control, tackle properly, support team mates, create space by movement, be aware of opponent’s movements. But above all they should be giving 100% every minute of every game. And as professional athletes observing the norms of dietary control, proper sleep etc. Too much for some of our present lot?

Whoever comes in better have an iron hand in an iron glove or completed P60s for those unwilling to meet the standards of Celtic players. HH

  6. St Stivs…

Thanks for posting that link to the banners. The most worrying thing about that picture however is the sheer number of empty seats vs occupied ones.

The worst thing about the position architected by Messrs Lawwell and Desmond is their lack of recognition of the severity of the situation we are in. Having surrounded themselves with enablers and compliant bloggers I’m not at all convinced that things will get better.

They’ve taken the Celtic support for mugs for years and the board have a thinly veiled contempt for us – never more exemplified by Bankier’s comments. I’m not sure there’s a way back for them.

    St Stivs…

imho – none of the current board are fit enough to hold office.

taking the club backwards at some pace.

they are meek, compliant, complicit “old firmists”

thats their only strategy, to wait on something called “a rangers”

    they make me sick actually

  8. Just back from game.Usual awful display. Predictable team playing to a predictable system. We are on the verge (Hopefully) of 5 in a row and general mood is very low.We should never forget though the joy of winning a league.Ronnie will soon be gone and we must get a proper time served experienced manager with stature ,knowledge, organisational and leadership skills which have obviously been missing the last two years. The board must get it right this time and appoint someone who the fans believe in.Anyway do not forget its still us on the verge of 5 in a row.

  10. The worst thing a manager can do is not learn from his mistakes. RD again showed today he hasn’t. Brown and Bitton should not have been in the squad today after last week but both started and played the full 90 minutes. That was the main reason we were dire, they are two, empty jersey in the engine room of the team and as long as we stick with them we will struggle. It’s not rocket science so why can’t the management team see it?

thetimreaper – totally agree with you about pr – he needs support ffs, a lot of it, he will go past 1 player most of the time so needs 1 player standing off him all the time waiting for the pass- secondly he needs a lot of help of the pitch –

  14. The solution to the woes of the Celtic first team will cost money and plenty of it, to get rid of those players on the payroll who are not good enough and invest in some who are. The first person off the payroll should be the chief scout who has deemed this lot good enough to be suggested to the club, how anyone can see these players as being potentially good enough baffles me, it truely is a matter of opinion rather than based on proper criteria or is it really scouting via a database?

  15. Go tell the Spartim on

    HT

The visible spat, the whole world has seen, now you could justifiably call that passion. However, from what I’ve heard and I didn’t start it, he is alleged to have undermined the manager in various ways including going above his head to undermine hi within the club.

That’s the beauty, during good times, that many have differing opinions on players performances, didn’t think CKR was bad today, nor Mulgrew and I’m no fan of his. Commons can make a difference, sadly not this year

  16. Kojo/TheDonald…

Considering your past racist comments on CQN (which saw you retire the moniker Kojo) you have a cheek accusing anyone of racism or sectarianism.

However – I hope Paul’s rules on supplying your name/address when indulging in ad hominem insults applies equally to you.

The worst thing a manager can do is not learn from his mistakes.

    ———————————-

To be fair to Ronny, that is pretty much what he gave as his reason for leaving in recent press conferences.

  18. Today was another opportunity for the CQN’rs that wanted the experiment brought to an end sooner, you know it’s bad when sftb posts it was awful.

But if was too late to bring forward Ronny’s departure when we got horsed by the championship side, then it’s even ‘too later’ when the same shower of incumbents can’t win the points at home in the league dubbed a one horse race.

Impersonators accumulated over four windows, now both flotsam and jetsam unpickable on the bench as we approach the split, I don’t think the special one could motivate Ronnys team, over the winning line, filled with ‘has been’ and ‘never was’

What tactics should we have employed today, that would make this group into a team? None, it’s too late for this group who’ll be getting broken up long into the summer of 2017 maybe 18 depending on the contracts we dished out like confetti, and you’re right Ronny, you should have said ‘no’ to the players that

    were suggested.

A depressing prospect for Celtic fans, who await the boards next hand.

That’s the legacy, the only ‘star‘ player we have is an 18 year old (bog standard) full back, and a one footed striker, en route to five in a row.

Here’s how we went to Tynecastle the last time chasing five,

    Kellys and Whites CSC

On 28th March 1970 a large and noisy travelling Celtic support journeyed east to Hearts at Tynecastle. There was anticipation in the air that day for two reasons. Firstly, Celtic needed to muster just the one point to claim their fifth successive league title under Jock Stein and match their own club record of winning 5 in a row from 1909. Secondly, Celtic were only four days away from playing Leeds United at Elland Road in the first leg European Cup semi final in the legendary Battle of Britain ties.

The Celts enjoyed a six point advantage over second place Rangers with only four games left and it was a formality that they would get the point they required before the end of the season. With Leeds in mind, Stein sprang a surprise with his team selection with Billy McNeill, Jimmy Johnstone, Bertie Auld and John Hughes all left out of the side with reported injury scares. It was obvious Stein was keeping them fresh for Leeds in midweek. Bobby Murdoch was Celtic captain on the day with young players George Connelly, Jimmy Quinn and Lou Macari coming into the team with Tommy Callaghan in the number 7 shorts but playing in midfield. It should be noted that both Macari and Quinn had led the line the very previous night, with Macari scoring three, and both showed great levels of fitness in lasting the pace with very little rest beforehand.

Celtic started strongly with Hearts’ Scotland international goalkeeper, Jim Cruickshank, making two tremendous early saves from Bobby Lennox and Willie Wallace. However, the biggest talking point in the first half came in 35 minutes when Hearts’ midfield player, Jim Townsend, head butted Davie Hay. The bold Davie stood his ground, did not go down and faced up to Townsend, so it was maybe just as well he was ordered off in order to deny Hay the chance of taking retribution on him later on.

In the second half Celtic were awarded a contentious penalty when Alan Anderson handled outside the area only for referee, Archie Webster, to award a spot kick. It was definitely a bad decision and justice was done when Cruickshank made another heroic save, this time from Tommy Gemmell’s typical full blooded penalty.

The tackling remained fierce and Celtic replaced young Quinn with Harry Hood in an effort to win the match but to no avail. Cruickshank refused to be beaten and Hearts’ efforts earned them a deserved point. Celtic’s point, of course, saw them over the line and their estimated 20,000 supporters in a 28,000 crowd loudly sang their victory anthems at the end. There were no great on field celebrations as Celtic now focused on the task facing them at Leeds, who it was announced, had surprisingly lost 3-1 at home to Southampton, after dropping eight of their first team for that game.

Celtic players were allowed the pleasure of celebrating with champagne in the bath as Sunday’s newspapers would show. League championships were obviously important but they paled into insignificance with European Cup semi final ties. These were the Celtic days of Camelot and sadly a modern day Mordred, in the shape of Feyenoord, would later come on the scene to spoil things. But that was for later and Celtic fans basked in the glory of 5 in a row at Tynecastle.

Here’s hoping the current Celts will emulate the class of 1970 next weekend.

‘Misspelling Lawwells surname on a banner?’

    ###

Only an egotist would be offended by having their name misspelled on a banner.

    So no harm done then.

  20. No apologies for returning to a couple of my old hobby horses.

Relentless years of downsizing inevitably results in being relentlessly downsized.

When doing just enough to get by and mediocrity is the height of your ambition, mediocrity and just getting by is what you get.

Earlier today, either here or on E-Tims someone was defending PL on the grounds that when he took over, the club was financial broke.

It may well be that when he leaves, the club will simply be broken.

  21. We haven’t appointed a bums on seats manager for 16 years.

We haven’t had serious investment in the squad for 16 years.

We can’t afford to make it 17 years.

  22. Just watched The Washington Capitals beat Philadelphia Flyers in hockey playoff.

Now theres a sport were team spirit .effort and courage comes to mind.

These guys put everything out there for the team today.

Guys playing through pain and injury.

Someone should make our current squad watch a video of this.

  23. I thought CKR was ok today. Commons kind of offered something but too little, too late. Attacking players going for the same ball or bit of space, midfielders incapable of a pass to another Celtic jersey, defence standing off and letting average players run at them…it reminds me of the early 1990’s.

How many of today’s starting eleven will start the first game next season? Gordon, Tierney, Sviatchenko…Griffiths…Roberts?

  24. Can we get any worse than the shambles that surrounded CM going down injured in the dying minutes — wasting time as tried to get the winner — and then the Hokey Cokey of the bag lady coming on, not coming on, coming on again.

All this time with CM sitting on his bahookey making signals to RD that either he didn’t understand or care for.

We are a club on the edge of a nervous breakdown.

The thrill is gone and even the GB were worse than usual.

Team is on its last legs.

When I heard PL — the Bonus Thief — had went into the dressing room at full time I immediately thought that he had went in to hand out brown envelopes for a job well done. After watching the efforts today I think the plan was to lose points so that PL could sell more tickets for the Sheep fixture..

  26. As Jim Royle would say Celtic supporters my……………………………. you know the rest. Yes that’s YOU he’s referring to.

  27. It isn’t merely ironic that the performance today occurred on the same day as the London marathon.

The vast majority of the people running work two jobs, one that pays the bills and the other that occupies pretty well all of their thoughts.

You can pretty well guarantee that the vast majority of those who finished the Marathon today have far more enthusiasm for fitness, getting fitter and improving despite it not being their day job than those on the books at Celtic.

These folk are doing it for nothing and yet supposed professionals can’t be bothered to put in a decent shift for paying fans.

Not a good situation, Ronny-speak-bullshit-a-minute came on the authority he could and would change it. Nothing he did in practice suggests he moved the club forward 1% in that direction and most variables would say the progress was a zero sum gain, at best.
