  1. Or get a strong starting 11 then start spelling people (ie KT) once the match has been won, say at 2-0?

For all those making the point about pacing and protecting KT (and I’m one of them!!) why did we have this kid playing every minute of every game till the weekend when we could have retained Izzy and shared the burden 70:20 on occasion.

My bugbear was actually beyond the selection. It was about the performance. I know both are related, but even a (overly?) changed team should have played better.

    Am I spoiled?

Or am I simply trying to give an objective view on 94 mins of poor football and classic Mibbery?

  2. Imo, we are back to where we were some seasons back. The “honest mistakes” are in full flow. As Tontine Tim pointed out, Davie Hay was once so angry about the refereeing against us, that he said we would be better off playing in England. Again imo, it is getting to those levels once again. Yesterday was a masterclass in cheating. Of course, in Scotland the likes of Beaton has his back covered. He will probably even get his back slapped.

“A fair few who said that the fans pay to see the best team available on the pitch.”

    1) Outwith a major European tie, I have never had the expectation that I would see the “strongest” 11 and I don’t remember too many complaints when our best ever 11 rarely featured as a starting line up. In those days, with the injections mentality, if you waited for an injury to earn a chance, you’ld be a 28 year old player with 5 first team appearances in your belt.

    2) That is another instance of some fans expressing their opinion as being on behalf of “the fans”. They should have the courage to speak for themselves only.

    3) How would we even start a common definition of ‘First 11. You might get a high level of common selection of Brown and Tierney (and perhaps Ajer and N’tcham) but how many would pick Griff before Dembele, Roberts before Forrest, Ralston before Gamboa, Rogic before McGregor, Armstrong before Kouassi- there will be some. Just check the match day reaction to every Celtic manager who has ever failed to select their favourite or, worse still, refused to de-select their scapegoat. WGS, NFL and RD all got it in the neck for “bizarre” selections, “unfathomable” substitutions etc; When I read that stuff, all I hear is someone struggling to understand that other people think differently than them.

We dropped 2 points as the price of not playing the ever-reliables. We prioritised Lustig and Simunovic for Thurday rather than for the SPFL, and, having built up an 11 point lead, I reckon he earned that leeway.

I am away in to try the orld of work after las t being there last Monday. Cold symptoms have mostly gone but I am very fatigued and have eaten next to nothing for these past 6 days- could be fun.

  6. I’m confused???

Celtic play in a “pub league” which any of us could many the team to victory in ( CQN Gospel)

Brendan was brought in to “make our mark in Europe and restore our standing in Europe” Also fairly common CQN thinking.

Said manager changes team after successful “European ” result, with view to return match in “Europe”

Changes don’t work out we drop two points and suddenly our “bread and butter ” league is all important???

Still confused, maybe there’s an undercurrent of fear in the support when they see the Sevconians come up the league??

Are some of us still clinging to the idea that to be better than THEM is all that matters???

Hmmmm as the great man once said.

By the way I was at PSG the other day and their manager made quite a few changes from the team that lost to Madrid 6 or 7 I believe, sold out and though I was disappointed not to see Rabiot play I got a chance to see the wonderful Pastore instead!

“Are some of us still clinging to the idea that to be better than THEM is all that matters???”

Not ALL that matters, but, it matters, a lot…. certainly to me and I suspect s good number of others .

I said yesterday, I wasn’t so much disappointed that Brendan chose to rotate the squad, but more that I feel some of the players he trusted didn’t perform to a good enough level.

Hopefully the experience they gained yesterday will lead to a more polished performance if they’re called upon again.

If you wouldn’t mind I’d like your e mail address. Nothing heavy.. trust me:-)

With your approval if anyone has both our addresses and could do the honours?

  10. Given we have an injury list in double figure, and had another three unavailable yesterday from Thursday, seven changes was too many. Particularly when we were playing a team we struggle against at home even with a full team. It was terrible to watch and making so many changes is part of the reason for that. I can understand why BR does it, sometimes he gets away with it, yesterday he didn’t so he takes the blame.

We move on and concentrate on Zenit AND Aberdeen, both are equally important. Win at Pittodrie, Hearts take something from Ibrox and the lead is in double figures again with 10 games to go.

  11. TWISTS N TURNS

Nobody loves a hunskelping more than me but I try not to let the fear of a hun team cloud my view of Celtic which I feel sometimes might be the case on here:))

And you hit the nail on the head, some of the players selected didn’t perform the way maybe they were expected to. Gamboa got it tight yesterday but what do you really expect the guy hasn’t played for months.

We also heard that Miller didn’t play the way he plays for the development team and that’s to be expected when Brendan gives him a specific job to do.

Talking a bout players coming in I watched Diarra come in to the PSG team and he had an absolute nightmare, this from one of my favourite midfielders, it happens:)

No one wants to see the huns anywhere that’s for sure but their team is no measure of our team, certainly not in this time!

I just get the feeling that the feel good factor for Brendan has worn off and like all other Celtic managers he’s under the microscope for every wee move now.

Celtic supporters maybe always but certainly now are a hard lot to please and I think it’s a shame considering the job the manager has done since he came in but then again Glasgow has always been a black and white city!

I’m very pleased indeed with the Impact Brendan has had since he arrived. The impetus he has given on and off the field has been outstanding.

I wouldn’t swap him for anyone,I wouldn’t swap the last eighteen months for anything.

    He’s been an outstanding success.

Yesterday deserves the criticism it is getting, and I’m confident Brendan will learn as much from it as if we had won 7-0.

Alex Ferguson once played a severely weakened team against Exeter. 0-0.

    He never did it again.

Good managers take calculated risks. Yesterday didn’t work out,but it’s not a sacrilege to say so.

  13. BOBBY MURDOCH’S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

Exactly the way I saw yesterday, BR took a chance it didn’t work out, I doubt he’ll do it again, I gave him the leeway as I think the Zenith game is the priority but that’s just my opinion.

We have a really tough game over there but if we succeed yesterday will be washed away like so many tears in the rain.

    Iceland gets a bad rep.

    They do excellent killer curries.

My taste buds have been burned off by years of smoking, drinking and, yes, curries, but they have a rare revitalisation on occasion with some Iceland specials.

Of course, they’re not quite up to a guid phal from the local Indian, but for £1.50?

Constructive criticism is fine, yesterday some of the posts on here went way beyond that, and should be called out imho.

First half performance was poor although the second half was a little bit better, fair enough , but the rants at the team and the boo boys at the end of the game, really need to look at the bigger picture here.

Now l could point out that on Friday we were 8pts clear and now we are 9 pts clear but I’m bigger than that. :-)

Some of the fringe players that were knocking on Brendans door (his words) , struggled with the step up yesterday, but its up to you me and Brendan to help them in that situation not belittle them.

Another thing if any of our first picks got injured yesterday it would have been carnage on here.

We are fond of saying “In Brendan we trust “, I do, we are not going to win every game no matter what some think.

I still think though that with a fair minded ref we would have won, one incident among the many yesterday, Celtic midfielder gets fouled and the ball breaks to Gamboa play on says the mib, Gamboa knocks the ball down to wee Charly who was on the wing, and the mib pulls it back and gives us the free kick , stopping the attack.

Plenty more like that went on, but then again I’m paranoid:-)

No-one is suggesting you’re paranoid, and much of the rest is correct. But a lot of people criticised yesterday because they felt that it deserved criticism.

Bobby, You picked me up wrong there mate, the “paranoid ” bit was light hearted or at least it was meant to be.

As I said criticism is fine, its the ott reaction to us not winning with a much changed team before a European tie that rips my knitting.
