Climbing the mountain, confusing perpetrator for victim

396

It wasn’t a glorious performance last night but I’m delighted to be through to the League Cup quarter final nonetheless. Cup games against lower league opposition are there to be won, nothing else. There were a few bright spots: Saidy Janko looks like he has a sound future in the game, while Efe Ambrose seemed to enjoy his role as senior partner in the defence.

While we struggled for an opening, Kris Commons again stepped forward with a crisp strike from outside the box into the corner of the net. He remains the key to a large number of locks. We should have added more before Stefan Johansen grabbed a late goal to tidy things up.

On the way into the game I predicted Aberdeen’s defeat. With winning 8 league games in a row and being clear at the top of the league, every game has been a cup final for them, until last night. A game against lower league opposition is just not the same (see above). Footballers are not robots, so it’s difficult to ‘climb the mountain’ for every game.

How they react to this defeat will be interesting. Last season they won seven games in a row before Dundee took a point from them, heralding an immediate slide in form and the end of their title challenge. They have a trip to Inverness on Saturday to prepare for.

Charles Green’s apparent claim for legal expenses from Newco Rangers is jarring, but far from surprising.

The Rangers Football Club Ltd (formerly Sevco Scotland Ltd), a member club of the SFA, was the vehicle Green used to strike the Sale and Purchase Agreement for (oldco) Rangers’ assets. It is the beneficiary of that deal, not the victim. The alleged victim is the rightful owner of the assets, which may be Sevco 5088 Ltd, (oldco) Rangers creditors, or someone else altogether.

It is no surprise whatsoever that the beneficiary of a deal would be legally obliged to defend the officers who signed the deal on its behalf.

Still, there’s more to this episode than a simple case of alleged wrongdoing. Fans are caught between affection for the football club and anger at what was allegedly done in 2012. By the football club. I wouldn’t want to have to reconcile those emotions.

We have two big games to look forward to in the next week, both at Celtic Park. Club sponsor, Magners, have kindly offered us two Premium seats in the Jock Stein Stand for Saturday’s game. To win the tickets you need to answer the following question:

Who do Celtic play on Saturday?

Email your answer IN THE SUBJECT LINE to celticquicknews@gmail.com

Competition closes at 22:00 tonight, so get in quick. While you are at it, how about donating £1 to our Mary’s Meals school kitchen appeal? You can do so here. Thank you.

  1. I totally rejected Kojo when he commented about reincarnation, there is no doubt though, whatsoever, he is sorely missed on CQN.

The guy treated everyone on here like his best friend.

    Kojo was an old guy.

From his comments about those he met on his arrival in U.S.,he must have been in his eighties at the very least.

He said some controversial things, however he felt that controversy was the stimulus which made the blog work.

He was mercilessly bullied by the shameful C.Q.N. thought police. The holier than thou brigade.

Aye,I think you’re right. Mistrust of others’ intentions is probably as much to blame for inequality-etc-in society as greed. Problem is that greed by some has been tolerated in the hope that everyone else gets a fair crack of the whip.

Result-the haves never have enough. And neither do the have nots.

Bring back Robin Hood. And if you point out that he might not have been the goodie-twoshoes of lore, well,we’ll shoot the rich instead(!)

    Enjoy your weekend,bud.

  5. In 24 hours, I’ll have just taken off and be turbopropping into Glasgow for my first game this season. Looking forward to a victory and my return visit on Thurs.

    THE COMPETITION

Welcome back to a new season and LMS 5, which kicks off Saturday 3rd October.

This is the first competition of the new season and we will continue to support Shay McGinlay (age 2) and his young family. Thanks to your incredible support last year we raised over £5,300 through LMS and other CQN funding raising activities. This has gone along way to support Shay’s first and second year of treatment. We have a further year to support the wee fella.

You can read about Shay here

    https://www.facebook.com/Help-Shay-Along-The-Way-814451225255695/timeline/

The competition will cost £10 each to enter, and like in LMS4 you will be allowed to buy extra lives in rounds 1 to 3 for a similar amount. Payout will again be 50% to the Last (Wo)man Standing and 50% to Shay…..

…and all you have to do to is simply select a unique winning team each week from the list of fixtures provided. Dead easy :-) How can you fail not to win?

The winner of LMS4 netted a cool £425.

So to register, you must firstly send us an email to cqnlastmanstanding@gmail.com ( please tell us your name and CQN moniker if you have one) and secondly make sure payment is made by Saturday 3rd October. Payment details and rules will follow on registration.

Please also tell your friends and family about this competition, as the more that enter mean the more you ( and Shay ) can win.

Finally, thank you for your support and good luck in becoming the last (wo)man standing!

    Hail Hail!

    CRC and Jobo

  9. Good morning CQN,

    Here’s a laugh

Guess who is at the head of the UN human rights commission ?

    A Saudi Arabian :oD))))

Come on you’ve got to laugh

  10. Same team who beat Dundee should be given the chance to beat hearts, if they are as successful again then they should line up against the Turks. But I honestly expect tinkering and favourites to be given preference to form.

  11. Morning Timdom

I’m thinking along similar lines, mate. HT’s school is unlikely to be the only one with a similar tale to tell.

So what? If you can’t help everyone, make a start by helping someone.

  13. ..

Very sad after reading your Post this Morning..

As You know I Volunteered to Organise my Wee Ghirls Primary Schools Working Bees..then the Buggers offered me a Job..:(

The Parents get $150 for basically 2 Hours work..once a Year.. The amount that turn up and do He-Haw is ridiculous considering everything they do is to Improve their Child’s School..

Before I Worked there I thought my Wee Ghirl was the only person that Lost her School Jacket.. Hat Etc..in Australia No Hat..No Play..Not allowed outside..

To think that in 2015 there are Kids with No Jackets is a Humbling thought..

When I landed in London the other Day the First thing I heard on the Radio.. Was Parents Complaining about the Price of School Trips.. To Jamaica..South Africa Etc..over £3,000 what is with this World..

A True saying.. Charity begins at Home..

  14. H/T,

Thank you for that contribution about your children. Poverty is obviously only too real in parts of Glasgow today. All of us need to be aware of this. It is what Celtic was founded to deal with, because it was the reality for most of our forebears. (In fact, it was true of my Dad’s growing up. He still does not know how his mother fed them.)

    Mary’s Meals

    Sandra’s Shoes?

    Why not?

We’ve been subtly (and now far less subtly) been manoeuvred into a position where the gap between the super rich and the poor is greater than ever before.

Those of us bobbing about in the middle need to help as best we can.

    HH jamesgang

  16. Summa…,

Issue with school trips is the insurance charges, they are not done for profit, parents should be made aware of the costs and request a breakdown that at least would explain the costs they would then at least be able to question costs and understand why so expensive. But for many that’s not what they want, a simple excuse for a good old gum bump brings its own satisfaction, innit

  17. Jamesgang, On my last trip over we missed each other by a couple of minutes at CQN corner. Hope to be there about half an hour before Fernabache game, I’ve been told you are about 7ft tall so hopefully it won’t be too difficult to spot you, if you are in the vicinity.

  18. Morning folks from a slowly brightening Cumbernauld.

Quite typical that my wee tale should resonate with posters from here who are renowned for their compassion.

Thankfully, the girl will get sorted by the school but as we know that’s really just a sticking plaster.

  19. Morning all.

    Enjoyed the blog last night.

A movie (part watched),good Celtic chat ,news from the Pope visiting New York and then the harsh reality of life faced by schoolchildren in a poor area of Glasgow.

    Celtic brings us together.

    I’m glad it does.

“Please be assured that the End Times are here.

    The New Age.

Pope Francis just went All Political.

    No Scriptures mentioned?

Are we this Dumbed down now?”

I hesitate to enter an area where I am under-informed BUT…. the answer to your first question appears to be Yes, the scriptures were mentioned

I have just started reading the speech and I can see:-

    1) Para 3- a reflection on Moses and a comparison made with the work of Congress- no direct quotes, though

    2) Para 16- a direct quote :- Let us remember the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” (Mt 7:12).

    3) Para 17- an expansion referencing this quote

    4) Para 23- not scripture – but a quote from a 20th Century Cistercian monk

So, while it was not scripture heavy- it was a relatively short address -fewer than 30 paragraphs and it seems to have addressed the modern world with underpinning comments from his faith and his own writings.

How many quotes directly from the Old or New testaments would see him getting a bye on this on?

    In to work now

  21. Very touching posts ;last night, particularly one by Hamilton Tim, it brought me back in thought to the foundation of our Club.

If there is a Sandra’s shoes campaign, I’m in.

As I said, the country is full of similar tales. This one certainly hit a raw nerve. With so many different appeals for a few quid here and there,it’s difficult to come up with an attention-grabbing means of diverting some of it.

I’ve got one wee plan being fine-tuned,but it would take about six months to raise a penny. However…

The day is young, and I’m in an imaginative mood.

  23. Home from Night Duty reading back, HT’s post of last night is heartbreaking, that this still happens in this day and age, real life examples such as HT’s really bring it home. No point in debating the politics of why this is, rather as BMCUW suggests how can we help HT’s schoolkids? I’m sure CQN could plan and organise something

I’ve worked in the same area for around 17 years. In that time I’ve seen no meaningful change for the better to the vast majority of families there.

Government policy, in both Westminster and Holyrood is failing them and poverty wages for those in employment is crippling them.

  27. Goooood morning CQN :-)

  28. I remember having a favourite pair of sannies with holes in them that I was forced to give up, tears and spotters there was plenty. It would be nice if HT’s tearjerker had similar background but I doubt it.
