CSA will not be alone in boycott call

982

Celtic Quick News fully supports the decision by the Supporters’ Association Executive Committee to ask an Emergency Delegates Meeting to vote on whether to selectively boycott clubs which vote for a Newco to be admitted directly into the SPL next season.

We discussed the idea of a boycott on this basis towards the end of last season.  It appears the only appropriate action if our ‘sport’ can be subjugated for financial ends.

I am sure Celtic fans will not be the only ones considering a boycott.  If Newco gains access to the SPL next season there is likely to be a schism between supporters of clubs who opposed the move and those clubs who vote for Newco, despite the wishes of their own supporters.

Kilmarnock might be able to look forward to lower costs for stewarding and turnstile operators, from their own support as well as others.  Still, they would be able to open more than one stand when Newco visit.

What a great five days Walter Smith had.  His attempts to buy assets from Rangers administrators failed, sigh, but he managed to undermine the guys trying to sell tickets to Ibrox next season, so it wasn’t a complete waste of time.  Legned.

I’m keen to come on board as one of your backers.

I have to warn you though that I’m likely to walk away 5 days from now.

James Forrest raised this issue last week and it was sent to Celtic suggesting they get legal advice.

Paul McConville blogged on the issue the other day suggesting they had a vote but comments, including my own questioned his interpretation.

My rule of thumb is that whatever Doncaster says is the case is challengeable. ;) but I see others are entering the debate on more rational grounds.

The Pantaloon Duck, as Company Secretary, your first job is to amend the articles of association to say we are now a football club and to go and find us a ground to play on and some players. half a dozen will do, we can always fill up the rest with ringers.

Anyone know anything about EBTs as I’d quite like to get some top class players on board without actually paying them a wage.

Is it correct that in the event of liquidation all player contracts from the dead club are held by the SFA?

I thought all employees of a liquidated company lost their jobs.

I was also under the impression that any transfer fees for players who used to play for the liquidated club go into the pot for the creditors – maybe you know?

As for Morton they did dabble with an Orange strip for one year , but the yellow and blue was more the norm.

Celtic and Morton did exchange a number of players in those days, Roy Baines , Andy Ritchie, Bobby Collins.

Bobby Thompson was a Celtic fan. But the best of all was Roddie Hutchison.

Oh. Oh. He always dreamed he’d run a club like Wattie had. But it turned out to be like every pub team in the land. They owed taxman cash. In the land. They couldn’t afford a sash. In the land. Craig swiped the Arsenal shares. Seems he just dodnae care… Enough is enough. They can’t go they can’t go on no more…

RANGERS chief executive Charles Green is hoping SPL clubs will use business criteria when they vote on whether to accept the Light Blues into the top flight for next season.

A meeting is taking place at 10am on Wednesday, July 4 when a decision will be made on whether to accept the newco into the SPL.

Eight votes are needed for Rangers to be playing in the top division and the Ibrox men have one vote through the oldco so they need seven clubs to side with them.

Speaking exclusively to RangersTV, Green said: “Look we’ve always said that we bought the club because we want to play a team in Europe, we want to rebuild the image of this club, and everybody wants to play in the Premier League.

“Whether that can happen is out of my control, it’s in the hands of the other members of that league.

“But my emails are blocked at the moment with fans thanking me for saving their club but making it very clear that Rangers fans will unite whether we play in the SPL the First Division or the Third Division.

“I know that Rangers fans will not desert this club. But it’s important, not just for Rangers but for the whole of Scottish football, because the financial implications for the whole of Scotland, not just for SPL clubs, is a massive, massive problem to face up to.

“And there is no easy solution, it’s something we all have to deal with, we all have to take responsibility for and we all have to come up with something that works not just for an individual club but for the whole collective.”

“I think some of the views we see and some of the comments are not based on business and of course the criticism I regularly get burdened with is, for me, every decision is about business.

“It’s not about passion, it’s not about commitment to a cause, it’s purely about doing what is right financially because if there is no money – and that doesn’t just include Rangers Football Club, it includes the SFA, SPL and the old mantra of going right down to grass roots football – we go out of business.”

Paul McShane was also at the Euros and although he has a club, most people would automatically assume he doesn’t cos he’s mince. But nobody was that bothered about his presence.

    Therefore, you are probably correct.

Let our focus be on ensuring our own club votes for “sporting integrity” rather than “commercial gain”. The CSA bote should be on making our views clear to the Celtic board. It seems apparent to me that supporters of all the other SPL clubs fully intend to make their own views just as clear.

There is no need for veiled threats to be issued. If it looks like we stand alone in the fight for integrity, then that would be the point at which we use our collective voice. Not now – let’s trust the fans of clubs 1-11 to make their voices heard.
