Discipline, provocation and a place in the semis

473

There will be no one better prepared to take a team to Easter Road tomorrow than Neil Lennon, but while Hibernian fans are likely to feel generously to their former manager, by all accounts there is little love lost between him and the Hibs players.  They will give everything for a place in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

Neil has only had a few days with the players and I doubt he will have changed anything.  John Kennedy is his assistant specifically to ensure continuity at this time.

If our reception at Tynecastle is any kind of weathervane on how we will be received tomorrow (I suspect it is), the most important quality we will need is discipline.  Our treble treble could go on the line through rashness, provoked or otherwise.    Remain composed, pass the ball and get forward with the pace we possess, and a place in the semi-final is ours.

both teams to score has been more profitable than outright result

    Just saying like :-)

  2. macjay1 for Neil Lennon on

Pathetic attempts to put lipstick on the pig.

    Forget the spin.

    Ignore the rewriting of history.

The facts of Brendans abrupt departure are clear.

    Indisputable.

He dropped us in the poo in the pigsty just before Christmas.

    He betrayed our trust.

And no, it might be a whole lot easier to see a sinister and dastardly, Machiavellian PL/ PLC conspiracy here but I fear the realty is a whole lot more bog standard and straightforward, with his baling out being entirely produced and directed by BR, with funding supplied by Leicester.

    ———————-

I don’t think it’s easy to see a conspiracy here considering all the information we were fed from multiple sources initially was all of the same rhetoric – Brendan’s done the dirty etc. Virtually everyone on line and elsewhere bought what we were told. I chose to wait and see what else came out.

There is some conflicting information and assertions being made around the nature his departure. From my view point it appears that someone has lied and put out some misinformation .Whenever this happens the going’s on are generally never ‘ bog standard ‘ or ‘ straightforward ‘ and they’re trying to control or distort the information to suit their own ends.

I don’t claim to know exactly what happened but I don’t believe what we were told about him wanting to take the entire backroom staff or that he insisted in leaving now and not in the summer. BR and JK are both on record now stating something to the contrary of both accusations. Seems a bit weird to me.

My wee Laddie is raging and instantly called Brendan a snake when I called him on Wednesday.

I Hope That Neil – he will be facing more than Hibs on Saturday – can get the Win.

It is incredible we have no Substitute Midfielders – I know Timo can play as an attacking midfielder.

Scarey Biscuits. I hope the wee man disnae carry on that Tone – Neil getting the 8 will be Incredible – Anything else is a MEGA Bonus.

    DBHOY – 8:05 AM

Whatever BR is and was, a victim in this drama was certainly not one of them, he’s far too clever and calculated for that. I’m sure more info will come to light over the weeks and months ahead and I would be very surprised if it’s not that more evidence comes to light that BR’s move was not more orchestrated and carefully planned than we are currently aware of.

Anyways, BR doing this is a whole lot less earth shattering than Lenny doing it, that’s for sure!

    Magical.

    I am Banging the Drums.

  8. Mutual recriminations are moot at this point, whether you’re a supporter of the board (bored), or Rodgers’ overinflated self-regard.

The fact is that is a PR disaster of monumental proportions, and frankly points to an epic failure at executive level, whatever the reasons, individual egos notwithstanding.

Anyway, up the Ginger Lurgan Tim. We have a game to look forward to.

  9. Sin City Bhoy,

He’d be the most Ideal Leader of Celtic in these most STUPID of Times.

The BBC would be getting pulverised for their Agender.

  10. Dbhoy

I doubt we will ever get this cleared up, anymore than we heard from Bobo about what was alleged to have happenned there. It suits both parties to play down any recriminations and to have the focus returned onto their current tasks.

We have a cup Quarter final and league to win and Brendan has mid-table mediocrity to sustain.

I think we have a tendency to read into the runes what we ant to read hence:-

“Only problem with that is JK on record saying Brendan had asked him to be ready to take the team if he left. Two different newspapers carried a headline yesterday saying JK knocked back the offer but there are no quotes attributable to JK to corroborate this in either article, very odd to say that least.”

I read the one quote attributed to John Kennedy and it was deeply ambiguous. The headline writer had confidence enough to say that a Leicester job offer was knocked back by JK; I doubt they invented that without at least, a sly hint from John. John’s quote was along the lines of “it never got within a millionn miles of that”.

That could mean he was never offered , as you state. It could just as easily mean, I was offered but I never came within a million miles of accepting the offer. The jury is still out on the truth, I am afraid. I also doubt we will get told it for many years yet.

Meanwhile we have a Hibs game to get our attention onto.

  11. MONDAY 2ND

Much to the distaste of the Screws we ended the no-wash protest this morning. We moved to ‘B’ wing, which was allegedly clean.

We have shown considerable tolerance today. Men are being searched coming back from the toilet. At one point men were waiting three hours to get out to the toilet, and only four or five got washed, which typifies the eagerness (sic) of the Screws to have us off the no-wash. There is a lot of petty vindictiveness from them.

I saw the doctor and I’m 64 kgs. I’ve no problems.

The priest, Fr John Murphy, was in tonight. We had a short talk. I heard that my mother spoke at a parade in Belfast yesterday and that Marcella cried. It gave me heart. I’m not worried about the numbers of the crowds. I was very annoyed last night when I heard Bishop Daly’s statement (issued on Sunday, condemning the hunger-strike). Again he is applying his double set of moral standards. He seems to forget that the people who murdered those innocent Irishmen on Derry’s Bloody Sunday are still as ever among us; and he knows perhaps better than anyone what has and is taking place in H-Block.

He understands why men are being tortured here — the reason for criminalisation. What makes it so disgusting, I believe, is that he agrees with that underlying reason. Only once has he spoken out, of the beatings and inhumanity that are commonplace in H-Block.

I once read an editorial, in late ’78, following the then Archbishop O Fiaich’s ‘sewer pipes of Calcutta’ statement. It said it was to the everlasting shame of the Irish people that the archbishop had to, and I paraphrase, stir the moral conscience of the people on the H-Block issue. A lot of time has passed since then, a lot of torture, in fact the following year was the worst we experienced.

Now I wonder who will stir the Cardinal’s moral conscience…

Bear witness to both right and wrong, stand up and speak out. But don’t we know that what has to be said is ‘political’, and it’s not that these people don’t want to become involved in politics, it’s simply that their politics are different, that is, British.

My dear friend Tomboy’s father died today. I was terribly annoyed, and it has upset me.

I received several notes from my family and friends. I have only read the one from my mother — it was what I needed. She has regained her fighting spirit — I am happy now.

My old friend Seanna (Walsh, a fellow blanket man) has also written.

I have an idea for a poem, perhaps tomorrow I will try to put it together.

Every time I feel down I think of Armagh, and James Connolly. They can never take those thoughts away from me.

  12. I hope that at the start of last summer plans were in place to strengthen the squad. Then there was the realisation that rodgers was not for staying put. I hope that the cash was then put in a box marked keep closed until we have a manager we have faith in. I hope we have an capable man in and opening that box this summer. That’s what I hope!! Or should that be wish!!

  13. Morning All… looking forward to a cracking game later on… Apologies for not getting back, twas a long day.

    THE_HUDDLE @ 11:22 PM,

Our European Peers? That’s kinda the $64K question, isn’t it?

    Possibly…

    The support of the Club?

    The size of the Club?

    The turnover of the Club?

    The History of the Club?

The current status of the Club?

The domestic standing of the Club?

    Etc, etc, etc…

We’ve debated this long and hard, it’s a bit objective and a bit subjective.

We often see headlines, Celtic top ten for this, Celtic top twenty for that, we have the Deloitte money list. Yet it’s difficult to pin down…

    https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/3764598/celtic-ninth-in-european-football-attendance-league-with-rangers-19th

This was an interesting one, with well thought out criteria…

    https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1085782/Celtic-news-Rangers-France-Football-Scottish-Premiership

Of the top of my head it would historically be teams like Ajax, with current additions like Saltzburg.

The debate rages on… for me Celtic should be currently a tier three Club (third in a UCL group table), I think it’s a good benchmark and if we were striving to hit our potential, it would be there…

    SFtBs @ 11:43 PM,

As far as the level of our Club vis~a~vive Europe goes, were kinda on a circular argument… Jock took us to delusional levels… but please see my reply to The Huddle above.

Now I’m not having a pop at Lenny, from where we found yourself, the mhans a Godsend. Loved his first game in charge, think we’ll see more of the same today.

Yet consider this, five years ago after three long hard seasons Lenny left us, among the factors for that decision was the fact he was having a game plan/formations/tactics foisted on him, he had a new number two foisted on him…

We have once again been shown to have no forward strategy and for such a risk averse organisation the continuity planning on the Football sidr has been non-existent. It would not be happening on the financial side, no, not in a million years.

We don’t have a football club board, we have a PLC Board. It’s great to see this expertise in the organisation. And if we were a firm of accountants, insurance underwriters etc etc it would be fine but we’re not, we are a sports club.

Over and over, these guys have shown they can not run a football club and over and over they will not take expert advice on running the Football Club.

Are we more than a Club or a rich man’s play thing?

Wouldn’t mind the amateurish approach so much if we showed the James McGrory Corinthian spirit but we don’t even do that.

“We won’t have seen how the summer recriuitment has gone in June

We won’t have seen how the Euro qualifiers have gone

And we won’t have seen how the quest for 9iar has started.

Mind if I wait a bit longer before I tell you this?”

Absolutely, June ’19 was just an arbitrary date, although it is the end of the Season and our financial year. For me by then balance of power in Scottish Football will have changed. We will still be top dogs of course but if you compare our dominance with June ’18, I believe there will be a marked changed.

I’m more than happy to wait and will be even happier to be proved wrong.

    Hail Hail

I was told well before Christmas, Rodgers was going to leicester, doesn’t lessen the feelings when it happens though, I suppose we have been too trusting thinking naw what he says and what you are told doesn’t add up, so we enter denial, then wallop.

Good luck Neil your staff and Celtic fc.

So the revision of Brendans departure has begun. Imagine I walked out on my pregnant wife to move in with a richer tart. I didn’t even say goodbye to the kids. When asked about it I say I always loved them and hope to move back in some day. That’s what I think of Brendans behaviour.

  17. The fact Adairs Life was saved by a Catholic didnae really register.

Years later. I’m sad. I’m so very sad – I now know why a wee brainwashed kid ran right up to me on a deserted street because of my Lucky Green T Shirt. So very Sad.

Re JK being asked to go to Leicester.

From bbc coverage of the press conference introducing Lenny and Kennedy as the new management team.

Celtic assistant manager John Kennedy was asked about whether he had the chance to go with Brendan Rodgers to Leicester City but played down such a suggestion.

    More from Kennedy

Celtic assistant manager John Kennedy: “When Brendan was leaving, he asked me to be prepared to take the team and see where it went from there.

“It quickly evolved to the situation I’m sitting in now where Neil has asked me to be his assistant manager and I’m delighted just to do that.

“We’re in a crucial moment – timing wise it was difficult for people to understand and get their heads around. But behind that, there’s a lot of stability in the club.

“That’s why Neil will come in and do a terrific job because of the support he will have behind him

    ——————

I agree it’s difficult to know exactly what went on prior to Brendan leaving but read what Kennedy says, seems to be at odds to the rumour that he was asked to go to Leicester.

Similar can be said about the assertions that were made by multiple posters here claiming that Brendan insisted the move was to be completed now and not in the summer. According to Brendan that was not the case and Leicester told him the job wouldn’t be there in the summer .

This can be easily verified or denied by PL who Brendan name checked as being aware of Leicester ‘s stipulation through their initial enquiry.

  19. So sick that the energy of the blog is being consumed by constant talk of a multi millionaire who saw a way to add millions more to his pile by ditching us at a crucial part of season.

He did it, he’s gone and as far as I’m concerned he doesn’t matter anymore.

Huge game today, Weather is extremely rough around here, any weather news from Edinburgh.

  22. onenightinlisbon on

The breathtaking arrogance of our former manager saying he would come back and lead us again shows us exactly how far removed he is from reality.

I also agree that Neil was the only choice for now but not for the future….

  23. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

Big game today but expect us to come through. NL will know how to exploit Hibs’ weaknesses.

I think NL is a great interim appointment to the end of the season, however, as for NL as a permanent appointment come summer, I think it would evidence a lack of ambition. However, I fully expect our board to appoint him- he will be one of the cheapest option available to them and I fully expect them to take that option.

The downsizing is about to begin.
