The Boyata situation is all thats wrong with modern day football. We took a player struggling at a big club, we gave him a chance, boosted his confidence by playing him regularly. So much so that hes back in his national team and at the World Cup.

The Sunday Times Scottish edition has a front page headline “Celtic Star’s Two Year rape Ordeal”.
The “Celtic star” in question, whom I shall not name, was a 20 year old who had never actually played a first team game and who apparently turned down a big future at Celtic in order to pursue a place at an American university. I don’t know about whether he even signed for Celtic.
The story the went on to name the boy and say that he had been accused of rape and was now free to return from the states.
Appaling headline and and, in my opinion, a bad thing to name the boy concerned when he has not been found guilty of any crime.

I don’t have a problem with any of that. What I do have a problem with is him feigning injury and not making himself available to play. As someone said, he’d have been available for Fulham, you bet he would.
He could have just been straight and said, look I’m not signing a new contract, we both know I can get a better deal down south. So sell me and make some money too. If you dont, I’ll still play but I’m off for nothing when my contracts up.

Big pal and I were discussing this yesterday. An e-mail to UEFA/FIFA re SFA rewriting of the laws of the game are in order.
This really needs to be clarified.
Are you,are you not, allowed to swing a boot at an opponent?
Clearly not, according to UEFA/FIFA. Depends what jersey you are wearing, according to SFA-and now the precedent has been set, open season for (nearly) all.
Also,AFAIK,appeals tribunals have always been held to strict interpretation. In other words,it’s not a case of whether the ref wascorrect at the time,it’s whether his decision can be justified in the cold clear light of day.
FIVE overturned reds suggests there is something very much wrong in SFA interpretation

Apart from the off the field issues from last week. I would like to mention an on field issue that bothers me.
It is our formation when we lose the ball.
Our midfield is immediately bypassed with little or no resistance.
Watching virtually every other team on the planet, one thing they have in common is that they immediately adopt two lines of four players, that have to be navigated.
We also don’t track back efficiently.
We don’t do it, Why not?
The space we allow on a turn over is criminal and is obviously tactical.
In our last two games, we have lost goals due to a player to positioning him self straight in front of goal, without any hindrance.
Who is to blame for, in my opinion, tactical naivety?
The coach, that’s who.
It is an arrogance to think that we can play on the front foot for ninety minutes and leave our back line vulnerable.
Sort it Brendan or, I’m afraid your crown will soon slip.

A good while ago I posted that BR was the biggest asset on Celtic’s books because of his record of increasing value and that he should be given every encouragement.
Your example shows why and if you were to put a value on all the players that have played under him the princes will outnumber the frogs.
There is a bit of safety first about the PL approach because the last thing he will want as a Celtic man is to jeopardise Celtic’s future and I can appreciate that is not a responsibility he would want to fail in.
But here we have another Celtic man with different skills that can also add value using the core reason of the business, which is football. This is something not encountered before.
As everything in life a compromise needs to be reached between safety first and slower growth and taking some risk but with faster growth where it counts to suppprters, which is on the park.
However if the BR growth is to become the chosen path, supporters have to accept that our stars will be sold regularly as part of that process and to reduce the footballing consequences and lower growth there has to be a steady stream of players BR can develop. A chicken and egg situation.
That is why I think the failure to land McGinn has so annoyed BR because I’m pretty certain that after 4 years under BR he would leave with his value at least tripled.
In effect it’s not so much a clash of personalities but a clash of professional cultures.
Both guys are really good at what they are good at, but a new steer from DD is needed to deal with this new reality.
Part of that reality is that winning titles with current level of back up players is not a given and we need to strengthen there first.
Europe can take care of itself after that at whatever level we qualify, CL or EL.
What we need is a Thelma and Louise situation where the car occupants are breaking free of their bounds, but are aware there are cliffs ahead to be avoided.
