Hopefully the Low trickledown will not reach Glasgow

391

With the announcement that Joachim Low will leave Germany after the Euros, you can prepare yourself for months of speculation about the position of Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool job, with trickledown references to Steven Gerrard.  I want Gerrard to stay in Glasgow.

This is not about getting back into the water after a shark bite.  Gerrard has won one trophy of the eight he has competed for in Scotland, reaching one final in five cup competitions, which he lost to 10 men.  His only success would have been achieved with the same squad by either of his two predecessors against Celtic and Aberdeen teams that imploded so completely both lost their managers.  Gerrard is a bottler who has not been under pressure since Hamilton visited Ibrox a year ago (a game he also lost).

More importantly, Newco will have him under the kind of contract that earned Celtic £9m when Brendan Rodgers left for Leicester.  They need that kind of money and more to make up some of the chasm between their current financial position and fulfilling Uefa Financial Fair Play regulations.

I would rather they needed to sell an additional £9m of playing talent than cashed in on a manager with a track record that would have him taxied to the airport at Celtic.  Celtic’s problems this season are CELTIC’s problems, not the challenge from across the city.  If we are worried about a one-in-eight manager it’s time to pick up a different sport.

  1. Tom English writes an astute piece on the Ibrox club “The Banter Years….”

It is a long, and I suggest, a well-balanced piece, however, it is this last paragraph has me really intrigued:

“The club’s journey began with a Challenge Cup tie at Brechin on 29 July, 2012. They scraped it 2-1 after extra time. From there to here has been the dizziest ride, the power and glory in the here and now only heightened by the industrial scale pandemonium that went before. Gerrard, the rookie manager, is now the great redeemer” – ergo one in a row!

The new club’s journey did begin on the 29 July 2012 at Brechin – at that time the club was registered under a temporary SFA membership as Sevco Scotland.

    Tom nails it….doesn’t he?

I hope that the club has the haw maws to stand by the statement and doesn’t end up sacking whoever put up the tweet.

Could this be what NL was referring to, when he said there was something going on behind the scenes?

    Exactly.

I said the same this afternoon

We come out and say that there is readily available evidence in social media that the Huns intend gathering at/around Celtic Park

Unless Police Scotland can guarantee the safety and protection of the club staff, premises scrubs and the general public by appropriately policing the situation – ie not posing for fecking selfies with Huns – we are refusing to fulfil the fixture and will meet any financial penalty incurred.

We as a club should act to protect public safety if Police Scotland won’t.

  5. I think it is important to cancel the hun game because it may save lives and could avoid a severe doing for us.

    Win win.

  6. Is Lawell about to leave with all guns blazing, could be the start of something bigger. I have my doubts, would like him to unleash hell if it were at all possible but I get the feeling he is too conflicted to do so.

He’s been a coward for years!

    To protect his wages.

    Unleash hell?

    Don’t make me laugh.

Adi- the huns cheating Covid Regulations could finish the league, is that what NL was hinting at?

  9. You’d think with the level of covid scrutiny at our club, the press might look into der hun’s miraculous early covid vaccine discovery…..oh wait…..Scottish MSM…….

We have to get smarter and be more politically astute, taking the initiative as we have both suggested, gives the SPFL a Contract headache, but we point to unruly behaviour and lack of adequate Policing.

Up to Govt./SPFL/ Police to sort, additionally having called it out, give notice that we need all potential damage underwritten or its a no show.

  11. Tell Scotland we refuse to play the game as we have seen what the mouth-breather’s intentions are. Protect the safety of our playing staff and management…………and for the good of the game…….Get it up thum!

    ………………………………………

After the George Sq. debacle,we need to ensure our fans are well away from any situation which would implicate them in a similar scenario.

I have read the possibility of the Derby game being cancelled, perhaps our Board, having been outsmarted all year, should try and take the initiative by pushing the Safety/Covid angle back to the Govt. and SPFL on the basis that recent situations are seen not to be controllable by Police and as such in the interests of Safety of our Premises, staff and supporters we do not want the game to go ahead. Keep your 3 points.

That would create a bit of fun with the TV Contracts, but for such a laudable reason who would oppose.

We should stop playing as if we have any friends here,we dont.

Sorry, don’t get what you think NL was meaning.

Can you explain for the hard of thinking please?

I’ve probably missed something from pages back.

  13. Shhhhoooooorley if Huns get caught cheating covid rules all their games should be forfeited.

    No title win.

Government and SFA will never accuse Huns because they know it would be true. They will want season to end naturally but orc fans could have fecked that up.

That’s why they will set us up to play and hope we have fans outside our stadium, they will then say “auch thats it season finished” sevco champions.

Ggh- in a couple of his final pressers,NL said there were things going on behind the scenes, but couldn’t say what it was, seemed a bit strange….is it the huns lying re Covid Regulations?

  15. !!Bada Bing!! on

Tony R- the Tweet has been pulled, date stamped pictures of Helander training at Humming Park on the day he was Covid positive, no Track and Trace Regulations were followed.

  16. Bada – Someone sent me them earlier but do you know if anyone is pursuing it.

    D :)

  17. To protect the huns who will get away with it as usual……………..now suck it up.

  18. garygillespieshamstring on

I see the dup moron Campbell has proposed a commons motion congratulating the hun on their world record 55th title.

If Brendan O’Hara or any other Tim map is lurking, could you please propose an amendment congratulating the new club on winning their first title in their eight year history?

  19. Bada – Cause they are slippery, lying, low bellies, yeller belly son of a bitches. In a cowboy accent.😂

    D :)

  20. All the happy clappers will love that post from the official Celtic Twitter account but not me, it’s all pantomime.

Business losing thousands and possibly going under and they are still allowed to say they are the same club.

SkyNews, The BBC and other platforms spouting the same nonsense, it’s disgusting and until Celtic call it out I’m not even entertaining that post on the official Twitter page.

This board owe the fanbase a lot & a good start would be to start calling this p**h out.

  21. If enough complaints on twitter can that result in removal ?

Or it’s now evidence in an investigation and the author pulled it……

  22. If PL sanctioned the Celtic tweet about 1 club since 1888.

    Then he deserves praise .

We need to stop being taken as mugs .
