Hopefully the Low trickledown will not reach Glasgow

391

With the announcement that Joachim Low will leave Germany after the Euros, you can prepare yourself for months of speculation about the position of Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool job, with trickledown references to Steven Gerrard.  I want Gerrard to stay in Glasgow.

This is not about getting back into the water after a shark bite.  Gerrard has won one trophy of the eight he has competed for in Scotland, reaching one final in five cup competitions, which he lost to 10 men.  His only success would have been achieved with the same squad by either of his two predecessors against Celtic and Aberdeen teams that imploded so completely both lost their managers.  Gerrard is a bottler who has not been under pressure since Hamilton visited Ibrox a year ago (a game he also lost).

More importantly, Newco will have him under the kind of contract that earned Celtic £9m when Brendan Rodgers left for Leicester.  They need that kind of money and more to make up some of the chasm between their current financial position and fulfilling Uefa Financial Fair Play regulations.

I would rather they needed to sell an additional £9m of playing talent than cashed in on a manager with a track record that would have him taxied to the airport at Celtic.  Celtic’s problems this season are CELTIC’s problems, not the challenge from across the city.  If we are worried about a one-in-eight manager it’s time to pick up a different sport.

  1. Celtic should tell her and her Coppers who have failed Scotland who I wouldnt allow to herd sheep to stuff it, we cannot guarantee no-one will turn up on the 21 st so pull the game , dancing cops and getting selfies with folk who were breaking lockdown is not the action of a reponsible Police service all that was missing was the scarfs and flags .

  2. More comfort blanket stuff…sigh…

While it is only 1 out of 8 trophies for Gerrard, let’s look at it a different way. He has, in the space of 3 seasons, taken a club who had spent 2 years in the top flight before his arrival to a title win when up against a juggernaut of a club who had previously won 9 titles in a row and in the past 4 seasons had won the quadruple.

Whatever you think of the man or his methods (or Beale’s methods) that’s a resounding success for him however you look at it! If we went out to source an up and coming manager, that’s the sort of track record we’d be really interested in, and rightly so!

If he leaves for Liverpool, I expect they won’t get much compensation for him – he’ll have a “£xm for other clubs but free/much less if it’s Liverpool” – he’ll have been savvy enough (or his advisors will have been) to ensure there’s no risk he’ll be priced out of his dream job. And if we think that compensation for Gerard is “transformative” we better start worrying about how transformative CL money is going to be!

More likely, he’ll be approached by the same folk who will approach Howe – the Crystal Palace’s, Newcastle’s, Southampton’s of that league – Liverpool will likely look higher – Nagelsmann Allegri, that type.

Meanwhile, we’re in the position of having no manager, a CEO transition in summer, and likely to not be able to string together a decent first 11. But sure, it’s a blip, let’s hope he stays, etc.

Certainly living outside of Scotland gives you, like me, a different perspective – none of the venom for one thing.

  4. Politically, Klopp considers himself to be left-wing. He told journalist Raphael Honigstein:

I’m on the left, of course. More left than middle. I believe in the welfare state. I’m not privately insured. I would never vote for a party because they promised to lower the top tax rate. My political understanding is this: if I am doing well, I want others to do well, too. If there’s something I will never do in my life it is vote for the right”.[232]

Yip I get what your saying mate. Maybe my response to James Forrest helps clarify what I was trying to say.

“… Any logical punter would agree, this cannot go on,unless, and its a very shady ,unless, they are receiving monies from other areas”.

Very interesting point mate. Now if Phil and James Forrest were to research, investigate and obtain evidence of all areas of where their money comes from I would sit up. In my opinion there is something else going on, I just don’t have the skills to investigate.

How big would it be to read facts on all areas of income and not just speculation, that’s the big story. That said I do as I posted to James Forrest accept what he and Phil has put out there in regard to the factual stuff that they are skint.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

I am no fan of the Greens – from perspective of their antipathy to Catholic schools – but God love him, wee Harvie has gone through the Huns like a dose of salts.

NS relies by dismissing Hun correspondence and highlights that nowhere in its three pages does it accept any responsibility

    Apologies for typo/predictive text.

NS repeatedly called the Huns out and left them without a name.

She acknowledged having called us out over Dubai, but to my mind – after a somewhat ropey start – clearly attributed full responsibility for Saturday/Sunday on the Huns.

We are getting sooked in on basis of forthcoming Glasgow Derby.

I think we should come out and say we are not prepared to fulfil fixture unless guarantees are received from Police Scotland regarding appropriate levels of protection for staff, the public, and CP and its environs, as opposed to them posing for selfies.

Spot on mate. Our board have a chance to act and they MUST do something.

Keeping their collective mouths shut just won’t do.

They should tell the Huns not to turn up as safety cannot be guaranteed.

Indeed they should say that due to recent events they are not prepared

    to play the fixture.

  14. It’s wilful ignorance to write off Gerrard. I am under no illusions he doesn’t have a team of world beaters over there but he does have a well coached and drilled team that are much greater than the sum of their parts. They have a cohesive style of play and every player knows exactly what he is doing with and without the ball. He has incrementally improved them year on year and they have just won the title without losing a game and are acquitting themselves well in the Europa League yet again.

They may well have folded under pressure if we had performed competently this season but the monkey is off their back now & they have a solid foundation to build on. Anything that disrupts that is welcome for me and the sooner Gerrard and Michael Beale depart the better.

I have Emailed Paul67 this morning about this ” New” Poster who has suddenly appeared since yesterday…I will wait til Tomorrow to see if Paul can confirm IF its the same Chump as last time ?

I KNOW what you are saying about ignoring him, but its much more than that as the ” Original” Chump who finally was banned from here has a History of causing arguments on here and he also told BLATANT LIES about my personal life on here, DESPITE ME warning him about his LIES.

IF its the same Chump/Roaster/Space Cadet/Moron as before, its only a matter of time before he causes more trouble on this Blog.

I will also be very angry that CQN has allowed HIM to Post on here again…IF its the same Chump….and I believe it is.

All he has done since yesterday is place a ” 1″ beside his Moniker, which he used before….That in itself tells me that it IS the very same Moron/Chump as before, as he woulnt be smart enough to change his Moniker…and because he was/is a Serial Attention Seeker, he wouldnt wish to divert too much from his original Moniker, as he would want Posters on here to KNOW that he was back, given the high opiniuon that he has of himself.

    Stay safe mate.

Sturgeon could barely wait to get our name out front and centre. Mentioned that colour of shirt doesn’t matter to her but didn’t hear anything about Aberdeen or congregating St. Johnstone fans. Make no mistake she is an astute and savvy politician, she initially read from a prepared statement which will have been vetted word-for-word beforehand – she knew exactly what she was doing when saying our name first – pure deflection. Not a jot said about players egging the supporters on or words of punishment.
