Howe agent comments correct

289

I hear that Eddie Howe’s agent was correct with his comments to Sky Sports last night, while the usual suspects in the Scottish media spun misinformation on top of what Sky reported.  It was likely the same agent who leaked that the former Bournemouth manager met Celtic last week.

It is an agent’s job to raise their client’s profile and flush out prospective employers.  If an unemployed manager is meeting Celtic, you will hear about it; those in a job need to be a bit more circumspect.  None of the latter’s agents have said a word publicly.

As the agent explained to Sky, Eddie does not want to take a job until the summer; I believe this is consistent with what he told Celtic.  Anything you subsequently read about backroom staff forced upon him is nonsense.  It did not happen.  The story is an invention to undermine Celtic, an occurrence which has an obsessional compulsion in some places.

There are reasons Howe is keen to sit on his hands for a few more weeks, the same reasons the agent is talking to Sky and someone leaked the meeting with Celtic (he has not been to Glasgow for any meetings).  There are no vacancies in the EPL right now, but that might change at Newcastle, Southampton (30 mile drive from Bournemouth), or Everton, whom he supported as a boy.  Before Eddie puts pen to paper, his agent will want all potential suitors checked out.  He is not doing his job, otherwise.  This is football.

Right now, Eddie Howe is the only manager whose agent is talking to the media, raising his profile with you and me above those who are speaking only to Celtic.  It is encouraging that we are working with this level of candidate, but until an appointment is made, or another agent breaks cover, we will need to endure the usual tripe from the usual sources.  Still, at least they are not taunting us with Roy Keane this week.

  1. Good morning

I don’t want him to be the next manager but at least JK

calls out inconsistencies and articulates it in a manner which isn’t controversial but nevertheless to the point and accurate.

The whole Covid situation mess with that lot is incredible how this has managed to drag on for 2 months without a conclusion and allowing the parties involved to play against us in the cup is wrong in every level.

Gerard’s comments about the player being young etc etc are so off the mark and utterly ridiculous.

He should have been called out for his stupidity but it’s not going to happen is it?

Let’s hope we can somehow pump them next week.

We all need to have something to cheer.

  2. Was always a big fan of Lou Macari and disappointed to lose him early doors, but looked out for him once he went to Manchester United. Quite impressed with his choice, in the side article, of his greatest ever team mates. Seven Celts in the line-up. I’ve picked my own line-up from his choices, eg Danny at left back to allow Davie to play right, Kenny in midfield where I did see him play for Celtic when Bobby Murdoch was out injured, etc.

I reckon that team would have won a European Cup or two.

  3. Perhaps the Club has been listening and are to be commended for JKs statement, – his questions are more than valid but the msm choose to describe it in angry terms…………….

………..let’s see if any of the empty blowhards take up the cudgel. I doubt it.

Our biggest problem is The Bowling Klub……….Yes , we have huge issues structurally, culturally and with our “identity” but confront the Blazers – these hunned-up nuggets are the bedrock of our problems.

I take the view that the CL distribution of reward money is seriously damaging to the health and integrity of Scottish football and probably other countries outside the big five.

Pursuit of it using debt killed Rangers, yet here we are battling a club following the same path as led to its destruction and put smaller clubs in peril in 2012.

There are no deterrent consequences for a debt fueled approach, in fact the 5 Way Agreement with its nonsense creation of a club that can continue if the debt approach fails, encourages the same behaviour.

I believe it runs counter to UEFA FFP but as UEFA never saw the 5 Way Agreemrnt how would we know?

(Lest we forget Res11 is about establishing why SFA abandoned their non compliance charges against Rangers because a clause in the 5 Way required CAS to look at an agreement UEFA had not seen!)

Good governance it is not and Celtic are part of it. What makes it worse is that without PL”s apparent support for SFA reform in summer of 2013, Res12 as a means of leverage to get it, might never have happened.

Back to CL rewards: The prize money to competing clubs should be reduced and the solidarity payments to the football authorities increased.

What is the loss of a few million to clubs at the top to the opposition without whom there would be no top?

The money would be for player development and wages top up to keep good young developing players leaving Scottish football too soon.

Making other clubs more competitive stops the nonsense of 20 points gaps and where destination of a title depends in normal circumstances on 4 games where referees as currently constituted can be game changers, especially if winning is a matter of survival.

Our game is institutionally rigged by UEFA CL rewards but as long as you are on the winning side that does not matter.

As we have seen, when you are no longer on the winning side it matters a lot.

Well said JK regards the SFA/Hun Fc cheating. By making the statement it says to me that JK aint getting the managers job as the Board would be at great lengths to ensure any Celtic manager tows the Uncle Tom lineage. Should we be surprised our board treat us with contempt? They are tories at heart and act accordingly.

New manager? If its Howe we should have it nailed now. The comment yesterday that “the club believe they have their man” is amateurish and no-one is business relies on believes, once its signed its done. Roy Keane with a strong coaching staff around him ie the best we can buy wouldn’t be the worst if thats how it ended up. Strong character who I would think has learned a great ddeal acting as an assistant over last few years.

As we have seen across the way a good coach has the ability to make a huge difference, no-one can say an under 18 manager was showing or demonstrating anything to make other think he was ready to achieve anything. He was brought in for his name and that name was used to bring investment – Kenny Dalgleish to Dave King mind? His coaching staff have made him 100%.

  6. Celtic signed up to keeping the Huns alive,,, agreeing with history and stolen titles. Also signed up to cheating SFA by ignoring Res12. No one to blame but ourselves.

  7. JK is of course spot on, as was NFL before him. Speaking the truth. Nothing more, nothing less.

If I was cynical, how would John gather favour with the Celtic support in one easy move. ?

However I’m not cynical, well done John.

  8. They can deny it all they like, but Celtic were fully complicity in settiing up The Five Way Agreement.

What if Roy Keane votes Tory. ? It would not be a surprise for someone worth circa £40 to £50m.

Never mind a heated driveway, why would any family need 8 bathrooms in their home ? He would eventually get slaughtered on here.

  11. Reading Auldheids post this morning the facts are there for all to see . And to tell you the truth after 63 years of following the hoops it is making me consider if it now is worthwhile continuing to roll up week in week out , we are more than ever playing against a stacked deck . In my time I have seen some cheating of the highest order , Wharton ,Davidson , tait , to name a few , the farry scandal , but nothing compares to what has gone on since that lot died and die they did . But much of what has gone on has been aided and abetted by those within our own club . We unfortunately have a board who have accepted everything that has gone on . We have witnessed players who should have been sent off allowed to continue against us , to later after the game to be charged with the offence and suspended , this is thems / mibs new trick . We have seen Celtic players cited to appear before the beaks ASAP if we have a crucial game coming up , when other offenders are called at a time convenient to games when the others might get by without them . I could go on all day . Now this debacle re the covid party goers , all backed up by there puppets , the sfa ,spfl, media . And not one thing has been challenged by that mob running our club , good on you JK . It is getting to the stage where we will win things when they allow us to win things . When the shoe is on the other foot they won’t show us mercy , you can take that to the bank . Here we have a position where we have , no manager , players wanting away . No scouting network , what a mess , Lennon has gone , the chief scout has gone , the want always will soon be gone , the non Trier’s should be going , but so should that board .

    I don’t the narrative here.

I don’t believe Howe is the type to use us as has been suggested. I didn’t think he’d be interested but once he was I don’t believe he would then just use us.

I also don’t think we’d enter negotiatons if we sussed he wasn’t fully committed.

Add in the above with I can’t believe he would be asking for Kennedy and Strachan to be retained.

So the strong initial comments saying they will be retained aligned with the new rumours that they are being forced on Howe would seem true to me to be true.

    Scandalous if true.

    We either believe

    1) Howe is using us (which is not in his charachter), we are letting this happen and playing along (not in our charachter) and we never sussed this (again not in our charachter) and Howe is keen to have Kennedy and Strachan retained (strange to believe Howe is up for this and not so strange to believe we are up for this).

    2) Howe was very keen as were we (as all the reports suggested) and this has stalled because Kennedy and Strachan have been forced on Howe (very believeable that we would force and Howe would be against).

I know out of the above 2 scenarios the one I believe. So wonder why scenario 1 is being peddled as the truth.

For the record I’ve been all for Howe from day one ….. https://www.celtictrends.com/post/7-reasons-why-celtic-show-go-for-eddie-howe

53 years man and Bhoy for me, but they’ve finally broken me. My views on our contortions to keep the G51 clubs relevant and/or alive since throwing the SPL in 2011 are well known.

It’s been a running joke among family and associates that every season I say I’m now renewing, but always get dragged back.

Good seat, Champions League tickets priority, day out with the troops, etc etc. I fall for it every year.

This season has finally convinced me we’re all being played for idiots.

    I’m done.

    Definitely.

  14. the longer this goes on then more chance it could be Kennedy or worse Keane. They knew they needed a new manager since October at latest. kept Lennon on to make sure huns won league! Strachan and Kennedy have to go they were part of the disaster. and showed nothing on sidelines that they cared

  16. I don’t think there is any point in speculation over the manager

Most Celtic managers have arrived with ‘exclusives’ very close to the unveiling

In the internet/camera phone world, its much harder to avoid leaks so Howe probably has been spoken to but we don’t know who else has been. With most staff on furlough or wfh, the leaks probably are less of a risk

It will be who it will be and we can judge the decision then

Over my lifetime, we have had mixed success with managers but most of the time it seemed right in the circumstances

McNeill – succession from Stein, had some management experience

Hay – fitted the blueprint of former great player but not much experience

    McNeill – unfinished business

    Brady – made no sense

Macari – i could see the logic when we were drowning

Burns – every fan’s choice; up and coming manager

Jansen – we didn’t know him but he was a solid manager

    Venglos – vast experience

    Barnes – madness

    O’Neill – major coup

Strachan – perfect handover to another experienced man

Mowbray – fitted the fan’s call for more open football

Lennon – appointed a rookie ; made no sense

Deila – almost a rookie; continued the risk taking policy

Rodgers – a coup. return to common sense

Lennon – not re-igniting that debate!!!

IMO – Brady, Barnes, Deila, Lennon were the only clearly obvious risks we took in the big corporate era. McNeill in 79 and Hay in 83 were risky too when viewed vs European managers or McLean/Ferguson but we probably just looked at Rangers with Greig/Wallace to assess the risk

I hate admitting it but I’m on the same page, season ticket holder since the early 80’s but this season and the ongoing downsizing and expectation management has broken me. I think the correct changes in structure could win me back but I don’t believe for one second that the board really cares as long as the sweety wrapper crowd turn up and keep quiet every week.

One thing I can guarantee is that if I do get a ticket this year it will inevitably be after the season has started. They will only make changes when they see a poor take up on tickets.

I have friends and family amounting to about 20 season tickets, so far I don’t know anyone who is planning to renew when the letters arrive, some will later no doubt, but I hope the initial poor uptake will frighten the life out of them.
