Internationals, Scott, King Kenny, Willie Ormand

379

We have one league game, home to Motherwell, before facing Borussia Monchengladbach two weeks tonight, but there is a lot of football to be played before then for many in the squad.

Kolo Toure, Scott Brown and Scott Sinclair will be able to invest some time in building a training base, but the rest of the likely starters will face World Cup qualifiers with their various national teams. We have 18 players away in total and can only hope they return fit and ready.

Motherwell have experienced how difficult Celtic Park can be already this season, so on paper the forthcoming game doesn’t look too pressing, however, things ramp up for Celtic thereafter. The next five games have us home and away to Gladbach, at Hampden for the League Cup semi, and away to Ross County and Aberdeen.

A schedule like this illuminates the wisdom in Scott Brown retiring from international football. Kenny Dalglish, a player who always played for Scotland – apart from when national team manager Willie Ormand dropped him when he was about to eclipse a Rangers player’s run of 44 consecutive caps – believes Scott will regret retiring from international football.

Kenny did it all on the park, and harboured no bitterness at his SFA snub, so it’s harsh to dismiss his view out of hand. But he’s wrong on this one. Mikael Lustig should take note.

I wonder how many of barton’s betting offences between 1st July and 15th September occurred while he was at the euros. I don’t believe the pundits don’t have a variety of lines on at these competitions.

He probably wasn’t even in Scotland until after sevco returned from the triumphant “tour” of the ku klux klan heartlands.

Possibly very few bets placed while he was actually in Scotland as a player. I suspect Sfa are going for it in a big way to aid their brethren in a constructive dismissal.

Feliz Cumpleaños, Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag!

My wife got a call from Betfred on Sunday saying I had won a prize in their raffle which they held at the McMillan coffee morning last Saturday.

I then got a text yesterday morning from my sister.

My wife asked who it was and I told her it was Betfred again, telling me I had won another prize in a second draw they had held.

When she asked what I had won, I used your Elvis joke from the other day, which she hadn’t heard before.

  12. Another example of gross mis-reporting and misrepresentation from the BBC News website.

The headline states Children’s commissioner warning on football ‘child exploitation’ with a picture of Karamoko Dembele and goes on to say ”His comments follow the decision by Celtic to feature 13-year-old Karamoko Dembele in its under-20 side against Hearts on Monday.”

In fact his comments don’t follow on from Karamoko’s substitute appearance; in the accompanying audio from the Good Morning Scotland interview Tam Baillie, the Children’s Commissioner, states clearly that his comments were based upon the Ladbrokes decision to open a Book on various aspects of the young lads career. Nothing to do with Celtic whatsoever. Ladbrokes have subsequently closed the book (no bets taken) and written to apologise to the Children’s Commissioner.

The main thrust of Mr Bailies concern is the “under the table” contracts and deals that some clubs involve children (or more accurately, their parents or advisers) in. There is no reference made to Karamoko’s participation in the game or any implicit or explicit criticism of Celtic.

Sorry if anyone has already posted this in the last few days, but regarding young Dembele aged 13, I think I’m right in saying that a school Bhoy named Roy Aitken made his Celtic first team debut aged 16 ? If I remember correctly he was given time off from training to sit his final exams ?

Maybe we don’t have so long to wait for young Dembele Celtic first debut after all, if the wee man is looked after and continues to flourish ?

  24. I bumped into Kenny Dalglish and his wife and another couple one dark night across the road from the ABC Cinema that used to be near the top of Sauchiehall St Glasgow around 1973/74.

The 4 of them had just left the cinema, and I had been drinking for a few hours that day with a couple of mates. I had staggered by Kenny when I suddenly realised who he was, and ran back to speak to him.

Kenny kindly autographed my fag packet .

    I vividly remember his girlfriend/ wife ? wasn’t too impressed, but I didn’t care !

    Mac jay

Apologies for ‘bailing mid-chat last night; I was cooking and then eating a late dinner, and then took Derry for a walk. When I got back, I sat down to read cqn, but promptly fell asleep! The curse of getting older…

I do miss the camaraderie, but last season, I wasn’t enjoying the football as much, firstly, the football was sometimes painful to watch. But that is not a reason to stop watching the bhoys, and it seems like BR has righted the ship. So why bhoycott?

For many of us, Celtic is one of the great loves in our lives. And that can be a powerful force for good… But love can also make you do stupid things…

The analogy is like falling in love with and marrying your childhood sweetheart/your true love…but one night she comes home late smelling of strange cologne (the 5WA), but refuses to tell you where she has been .. She is otherwise a good mother and wife (or in the case of the PLC, balances the books and hires BR) … So you decide to stick with it … And there are good times (league titles) and some great moments (CL qualification) so you tell yourself that is enough. But over time, she becomes more distant and sometimes hurtful (the OBAFA) … And that cheap cologne is back… But she won’t talk about it, and resist all efforts to rebuild the relationship. But you have an otherwise nice life (big house with a heated driveway), so your partner is content to stay. And you don’t have the actual proof of her sleeping with the SFA, so you just go along.. But deep down you know Something ain’t right.

For the record, in case the boss checks in, (I) this could apply to either husband or wife, and (ii) is a metaphor, and is not based on my life! :)

But that is how I see what is going on at Celtic … They were my great love, but I feel like they are cheating the fans, and they have lost my trust, and , as long as I give them my credit card, they don’t seem to care about regaining it. And When you get to that point, you got to get a new Board

But assuming the board were willing to engage and go to ‘couples therapy’, What can/should this Board do?

For me, the first and most important thing is to engage with the fans in an honest and transparent manner. The first questions I would want answered concern its involvement, If any, with preparing the 4WA. ..1. when did Celtic learn about it? 2. How did Celtic learn of it? 3 what did it do as a result?

Once we have a satisfactory answer (and I say satisfactory in the sense of complete, not necessarily one that I will like) to those, we can determine the next steps. However, common sense tells me that many fans would not like the answers (although clearly many won’t care). Based on what we know so far (and based on what the Board is refusing to discuss), I suspect that the answers to those questions would lead me to question whether our board are fit to continue. But one step at a time…

So, a short answer to a very difficult question is for the board to start being open and honest with the fans, or the fans to do what is necessary until the board is replaced. I think the only way to get to the truth is to force it out; money seems to be driving all decisions, so withhold funds unless and until we get some answers.

As long as we give the board our money, they have no incentive to do anything, and I believe will do nothing, to address our concerns/clean things up.

Reading back, I am clearly still feeling the effect of having attended the Billy Bragg show… There’s power in a (fan) union! :)

MacJ…. apologies, once again, for missing your question last night.
