Job done by those who wanted illicit chanting confrontation

Make what you wish of Strathclyde Police reporting Celtic fans for “illicit chanting” to a Uefa match observer in October, the bottom line is that Uefa have fined Celtic €15,000 (around £12,700), established a benchmark for future action and more importantly sullied the club’s reputation.

that was not an attack, you know an attack when you see one :o)

that is a rather good description of him and his ilk, their middle class boorish bigotry is a hard fact, for some reason they believe only working class people can be bigots.

They believe that the passion of the Celtic support can work in a sanitised environment, this is the begining of the end. The huns are laying traps all over the place and this idiot board just keep leading the club into them. The huns are dying and they are taking us with them.

So was Phil right about our board then? If so, then I think he is due an apology from some posters!

Why should we continue to be surprised by the actions our OF board?

Not illicit, just complicit in the criminalisation of the Celtic support?!

I’m pretty sure most fans want an end to any songs relating to the PIRA, but helping a politicised Police force criminalise sections of the support is not the way to deal with the issue.

Add this to the ridiculously poor financial performance over the last three years, the idea of an OF game in the States, the joint commercial ventures, etc. – you really could be forgiven in thinking that a HUN was steering our club….!

I pray so however this board, more than previous Juntas, seem hell bent on sanitising Celtic of anything remotely Irish that is apart from a cursory mention that we were founded by some Irish who left poor old Ireland and found a welcoming home in Scotland.

Next time your in Sharkeys the Charlie Tully portrait was given to Michael & Joe by my Dad, even though it was actually mine and he only mentioned it after he gave them it.

All of Celtic are under attack from the MSM, SNP & the Police and that includes the board too. The board were in a lose-lose situation and I believe took the decision which would cause least damage. We have just got ourselves back into the title race and have already strengthened (Lustig) and are looking to strengthen further with Diawara. Time for unity as we have many battles ahead – the huns are going under and their future is in our hands. The boards BIGGEST decision ever will be upon us soon and they MUST banish them to division 3 obscurity.

I think we’ve gathered you’re in the anti board brigade, and you’ve done a lot of predicting lately.

Unfortunately it seems you retain the inability to understand posts, other than your own.

  13. here we go criticise Peter Lawwell = comment from celtic40me

Reluctant as I am to engage with you, as I see little point in having a debate with someone who already has a pre-determined position, the reason for my views on Lawwell, and the PLC board he represents, is the ambiguity in which they are dealing with this issue.

Let me first say that I am no supporter of an uncensored songbook at Celtic Park. Having sat with a close friend, who had sat up all night awaiting a phonecall, as she received the news confirming her young cousin had been killed in the Omagh bombing I am uncomfortable with certain parts of the songbook. Not that I should need to but it’s worth pointing out that this was a Celtic supporting friend, whose brother is a Sinn Fein councillor and who is from a family of republicans.

I commented that Lawwell is spineless, I stand by that comment. If there was a specific comment or add-on that led to the UEFA charge he has to come out and state it, then perhaps the support would not be so enraged or upset. People need to know what is acceptable and unacceptable.

We cannot embrace our Irish heritage and the Green Brigade for commercial purposes, but condemn them on the other hand. To do so is hypocritical. If the club do not consider the Wolfetones songbook to be appropriate , then why allow them to record on the pitch ? Or is it only some of the songbook we are happy with.

The board need to show some clarity on this.

Peter Lawwell has today confirmed what many of us have thought for some time. The man is spineless. Anyone who had any doubt that this board will choose to keep the Huns alive, in whatever format, I trust you have no more doubts.

The club are happy to play “Let the People Sing” and the “Fields of Athenry” over the tannoy, these songs are viewed by our enemies as the same as any other pro-Irish song. The Wolfetones have recorded on the pitch at Celtic Park. No-one has yet said what songs are offensive and what aren’t ?

Shall we have to remove the statue of Brother Walfrid next, as religion has no place in football ?

  14. just a thought……………………….

for celtic/the board/PL to accept the fine and charge he must know what it was for and for which particular song that was sung at the game, surely he should be explaining his decision to the support….

    makes sense tae me.

  15. Just read the board’s statement regarding the UEFA Fine.

I will see this season out and then they can ram their season ticket, up their sterilised, corporate erse!!

The shameful conduct of the Celtic board did not start today it started when they refused to speak out against the traducing of our reputation by McLean and Nevin and before that the silent acquiescence to the statements of Campbell Corrigan and Kenny MacAskill after the CIS Cup Final.

Up to the CIS Cup Final I had thought that Peter Lawwell was a switched on Celtic fan who deserved what he got paid.

Uefa have no institutional bias against Celtic and they have fined us for our fans behavior, instead of blaming everyone else it’s about time we looked at ourselves and dealt with the problem. Eddie Smith

Now we all know that Rangers were reported last year for singing banned songs

I seem to recall that the fellow who pointed out this out to uefa was a celtic man

The huns of course attacked the finger pointer as the real cause of the problem

I can clearly see and understand the finger pointers motivation to upset the huns

This time the shoe is on the other foot

It is ourselves who are being accused. This time the finger pointer is Eddie Smith

Was he acting on his authority as an independent Policeman / Referee

Or was he acting as an outraged Rangers fan (fair enough)

However If he was acting in his capacity as a big neutral Polis/ referee, then I expect to hear more from him

The plc must respond to the fans right now and tell us what the illicit chants are.

I’m ant Board (specifically PL). But it think he has this one right..it’s the pragmatic response to a rubbish situation. Conversely many previously pro Board folk will have difficulty with the decision… I wonder that this may divide fans along different lines than you suggest?

Having stated the above.. I’m always suspicious of PL’s motives and do not think one decision alters my over all view of him..

    …………..

Probably because they think they’d loose the appeal and it could cost more money. But unless somebody actually comes out and says what the “illicit” songs where, we’ll never know.

The fact that you are on board is an indictment of the board, pardon the pun,but we need to take this all the way.

Peter Lawell has decided that the club will not defend itself,so it’s up to us to remind him who are his employers,it is us,and we no longer trust him to be our mouthpiece.

He has made a huge misjudgement,IMO. Hell mend him.

  27. All we need now is an unequivocal statement from the GB that they will never again make any reference to any terrorist organisation in their songs and we can all move on.

The spotlight will then shine exclusively on RFC who will be unable to indulge in their usual defence of “whatabouttery”.
