Job done by those who wanted illicit chanting confrontation

1049

Make what you wish of Strathclyde Police reporting Celtic fans for “illicit chanting” to a Uefa match observer in October, the bottom line is that Uefa have fined Celtic €15,000 (around £12,700), established a benchmark for future action and more importantly sullied the club’s reputation.

Job done by those who wanted this confrontation to happen.

  1. The so called response from Celtic is no suprise. As many of you have pointed out this has been a set up from start to finish.

The Board have allowed attack after attack on its support over the last year – from the cup final, to continual wrongful accusations of sectarianism and even racism. They stood by while the police have intimidated the support and allowed the utterly disgraceful comment about the police wanting to smash to green brigade go unchallenged.

They have watched as we have become criminalised and said nothing.

The only soul that those who run the club has only money in mind – the question for us all is – is this the end of Celtic?

Do not let them divide the Celtic support , they fear us when we stick together .

It is the horribles who are crumbling not us , go away and do some investigative journalism you shower , dont leave it to RTC or Phil Mc , there must be one of you out there with a pair.

The next step for the Board is to agree to a deal that will see the newco huns straight into the SPL.

Ernie, come on – you kown fine that the deal was done a month ago, at least. It’s put to bed an ready to implement.

Lawwell requesting ticket money was not ‘stickign it to the hun’ – it was done with knowledge aforethought; he knows what’s coming becasue all the discussions have been had.

All that remains now is goofball Whyte to close down the dinosaur operation and generate his new generation of raptors, with full Celtic PLC approval.

Celtic to wear Green and pink hopped jersey’s for the remainder of the season after bringing in a lodge of psychologists in an attempt to dampen the aggression and spirit of the players and the support.

It is believed wearing the colour pink will connect the players and the support with their feminine side although it has been stated there could be a monthly period when the pink and green hoops may not act as expected.

In the future the players may also be required to wear pink boots and marigold gloves if the Pink & Green hopped jersey’s do not have the required effect. A further suggestion has been dropped as it was silly and extreme as the carrying of pink feather dusters is outwith the rules of the game.

Supporters will be required to wear green and pink hooped scarves and the GB will be named the PG and its members will be provide with an official club song book detailing allowable songs to be sung at Celtic Park. Any song sung that is not on the list will see the PG members shot from sniper cover to be placed on the roof of the main stand. Songs on the list include ‘She’ll be coming round the mountain’ and ‘You canny through uer Granny aff a bus’.

MWD thinks this is a great idea and should go someway to appeasing those offended by Neil Lennon and Scott Brown… and you can append Celtic, Irish, Catholic and green onto this.

  5. Just came back on and I’m astonished to see that our board have accepted this, what a bunch of cowards we have on the Celtic board.

The support have been penalised for singing songs but we don’t know what songs are considered illicit? well tell us and we can debate it, in this instance the board are acting on behalf of scotlands shame, they have brought us to the level of the orcs from across the water, damaged our reputation for singing unknown songs, refused to appeal when IMO an appeal would have been successful.

CFC board another part of Scotlands shame, how many Celtic supporters do we have on the board? not many I’d say.

I won’t be supporting anything that comes from the CFC board until we’re rid of these cowards.

That is a truly tragic story. Sorry you feel like that. please don’t give up on the Club…. a few eejits braying on about how Irish they are (despite probably having never even been to Ireland) should not lead to you having to take your support elsewhere. Please don’t let public opinion (ie the white trash orange underclass) stop you following the Team you have always supported.

As for your daughter – a grown up – starting to follow (a) the English premiership and (b) Man utd………….. WTF??

Man Utd is not a football club, it is a tourist attraction. (mainly popular with folk from countries with no football of their own…. scandinavia, thailand, ireland, new zealand, australia etc….)

Can see what your saying … perhaps I just picked the wrong team 40 years ago… I supported the team who were open to all.. sadly that is getting less and less what our support wants to sing about. Protestant and from a non-Irish background, don’t want to be a part of anyone Fenian army and not into the IRA?

So you want a Celtic support that sings about…nothing..unless you and the establishment find it agreeable.

You might be happier over the river, they sing numerous songs that the establishment find agreeable.

So many I couldn’t even count them for you.

  10. I wonder how many of those who insist on their right to sing the “contentious” songs in public stadiums, home or away, bother singing them in private when they have no opposing supporters to wind up……

Turned into a incohesive ramble but It took so long I’m posting it anyway.

I suppose the important thing here is to hang together despite dissagreeing with each other strongly. We are a family and will have diferences of opinion. We are all inclusive and that means we draw people with wider opinions than an average family and we know how bad they can be. We have those who support the IRA: people who see songs about the IRA as an act of rebelion against a vile, corrupt system that has dumped on all things Celtic for decades; those who don’t care one way or another and people who have very genuine reasons to be offended by the IRA and any support or sucour shown for them. Those in camp 1, you are damaging Celtic. When you sing those songs you are not supporting Celtic. You are exploiting Celtic. Go on a Hibernian march if you feel that strongly. Camp 2 There are plenty songs of defiance that don’t include references to the IRA. You could even come up with new ones that attack directly those with blood on their hands. When I grew up, I drifted into camp 3. I would imagine the biggest group. We want what’s best for Celtic. If a group sang about the IRA, I might worry about how that might affect a potential sponsor but give it no other thought. Now it is really going to cost us, it has to be addressed. Think about Celtic. The team you claim to support. Think about those in Camp 4. We will have supportes who have lost loved one to the IRA’s guns and bombs. They will have been extorted by gangsters and dennied justice because the people that have wronged them are connected.

Giving up references to the IRA isn’t surrender if you keep singing about Irelend; get vicious (vocally) about those who are against us and get inventive.

  15. tommytwiststommyturns Kano 1000 on

I would suggest that there’s been quite a sinister campaign to place our fans in this position ever since UEFA’s Gaillard categorised our songs in the “political” bracket rather than equate them with the openly sectarian & racist repertoire of our city neighbours.

The not very subtle media campaign, including the disgraceful behaviour of elements within the Scottish sports depertment of the National broadcaster, and the unprecedented actions of a police match commender complaining directly to a UEFA delegate without first registering the complaint with the club’s stadium manager tells us all we need to know.

This board regards the political elements within the Green Brigade as collateral damage in the fight we’re about to witness when this ill-advised Bill goes through the Scottish parliament. Instead of reaching agreement with all the supporter bodies to remove the “Plastic Provo” routines from the away games and any mention of the RA at home games, they decide to be complicit in the actions being taken against our support.

Taken in isolation this would be bad enough, but coupled with ridiculous decisions taken over the last few years, this board now has very little credibility in the eyes of the most important people at the club….the fans.

The continual failure of the board and the collective supporter groups to reach agreement on removing the PIRA songbook has contributed to the position we now find ourselves in. Cowardice and ineptitude at the top of the club and an attitude of “we’ll sing what we want” amongst certain fans has let our enemies damage our club and it’s fine reputation.

The collective supporter bodies need to demand an immediate meeting with the board to ascertain which songs will be targeted and also to convey the complete and utter dismay of the vast majority of Celtic supporters. Failure to act now will lead to the cancellation of thousands of season cards and many fans walking away from the club they love.

The greatest of football men once said that “football is nothing without the fans”….especially Celtic fans!

    The old Board

I think over the years I have often thought that the Celtic Board were not behind us. Sometimes because their hands were tied and sometimes because they actually were a part of the establishment themselves.

I don’t think it’s new. In the 70s during the start of the troubles, the old Kelly/white board regularly placed notices in the Celtic View against singing Irish rebel songs, and folks from that era might remember when the Polis considered it fair game to confiscate an Irish tricolour.

    Damned

Most folks who know me will be sure Im not a supporter of the current board, but in this instance I think the board were in the position of being “damned if they do, damned if they don’t” . A No win situation.

    The Green Brigade

I personally like what the GB have did to the place, without them Im sure our crowds would be even lower as fans might desert the library atmosphere that was the norm before their efforts, personally I would like the GB section to be extended.

    Standing room only

In recent weeks speculation has been rife about all standing sections of the park, we can reasonably expect the GB and similair would populate any standing sections. However PL and co must know that the GB element will be harder for him to police and “illicit” songs (whatever they are) might become more commonplace

    Politics or

To the folks who say politics has no place at fitba, I say if enough fans decide it has a place then why shouldn’t it?

What If the Celtic fans had been shouting

    “up the SNP” or

    “vote for Labour” or

“if ye hate the Scottish tories, clap your hands”

does anyone think that the Polis/Uefa etc would be involved?

However try shouting Sinn Fein and see where that gets you.

Politics is tolerated at CP a long as its not ours because that is seen as dirty

  17. The team has given us a good run in Europe and great that we are still there with a chance of making the knockout stage going into the last game in the group. Despite everything , I just cannot see us winning in Italy. Let’s hope we continue the good form we have shown in the matches to date and a good performance will satisfy me. Come on the HOOPS.
