Job done by those who wanted illicit chanting confrontation

1049

Make what you wish of Strathclyde Police reporting Celtic fans for “illicit chanting” to a Uefa match observer in October, the bottom line is that Uefa have fined Celtic €15,000 (around £12,700), established a benchmark for future action and more importantly sullied the club’s reputation.

Job done by those who wanted this confrontation to happen.

Phil’s article yesterday ( which was castigated by some ) seems to have suddenly gained credibility overnight, with both the guilty verdict and

    the non appeal.

‘They are a joke organisation whose tenure of European football is coming to an end very soon’

I think the FFP rules will finish them.

If the twenty biggest teams in Europe decide to go it alone, UEFA and FIFA are finished.

without clarification on what the “charges” actually were, what would Lawell reasonably expect?

rightly or wrongly by accepting the charge and ultimately the fine he has in the eyes of many been seen as being complicit in our criminalisation

this will make the poppy debate fade into the background

  4. I have not uttered one word against the board.

In the light of the consideration and the statement from the board, i will do so now.

    One word ……. shameful.

So we are not appealing against a fine for “illicit chanting” yet the support still don’t know what chants were deemed unnacceptable thereby leaving us at the mercy of Eddie Smith and his band of anti Catholic brethren

The Celtic board should be utterly ashamed of themselves.

Each and every one of them is a coward of the highest order

Once we win this league, the removal of this band of cowards should be the supports priority

    Utterly disgusted with them

SFA specs :)) think they have all been fitted with SFA xray lenses more like.

Disappointed that we are not appealing the charge and fine..so Eddie Smith and co can now report trumped up charges direct to EUFA [avoiding usual protocol channels] and we take it on the chin?….beyond poor.

  8. When exactly did the board recive a copy of the UEFA judgement?

How long did they take to decide not to appeal?

Will they let the fans see the judgement?

  9. The Club’s stance looks like confirming Phil’s opinions on the matter.

For me as Celtic supporter I really am going to find this difficult to deal with.

Ther lack of transparency is a big part of this difficulty.

Yeah, I asked him about it last night on twitter and he said it was mainly his opinion but seems on the money. His article also mentioned that UEFA confirmed to him that Celtic knew what was in the report.

Now is the time for them to share it with us.

I have already asked the Strathclyde Police for information on what chants are not allowed so we can refrain from singing them. I will also write to Peter Lawwell asking him for the same information.

Sadly, many Celtic fans saw this coming from the moment Celtic accepted the charge, and didn’t tell the fans precisely what it was

    (If Celtic knew)

Even more sadly the anti Board Brigade have been given a whole new arsenal of ammunition.

  12. Ernie from earlier… thanks.

I was on my way to bed just then and now that news has really got me gutted. Celtic are playing a game with their own fans, the heart and soul of our club, it is a shameful game. They don’t have the guts to tell those who keep them comfortably employed what they are doing to damage the clubs reputation. Long after you are dead and gone Peter, there will be Celtic Supporters, it is not your club, it is a social movement for good, and it is not we that tarnish our good name, it is you who refuse to give direction who are most culpable. You stand accused with all the others in office of incompetence.

Judging by the texts i’ve already received, Lawwell & Co are in for a bumpy ride on Sunday

    Sack The Board

  14. This isn’t the huns, the board, the Scottish media, the police the sfa or the snp. Uefa have no institutional bias against Celtic and they have fined us for our fans behavior, instead of blaming everyone else it’s about time we looked at ourselves and dealt with the problem. Time to grow up about this, it’s just wrong that a small number of our fans can have such an affect on the reputation of our club that I’m so proud of. Time for us to do something about it instead of waiting for this to happen again

This has been coming for a while but we’ve blundered on with our fingers crossed. Time we all took responsibility for our own actions

Was your great uncle Ned Sharkey?

If so, I remember him well. He was in the Flying Column and was very highly respected .

I once made the unforgivable mistake of sitting on his bar stool in Sharkey’s. Only once though!!

    Your family credentials are unimpeachable.

    ……………

2 sets of my Grandparents are Sharkeys from that Parish, but I’m no relation to Ned that I know of. I know you go to Sharkeys in Annagry, did you go to Duffys when my cousin Maureen owned it with the much missed Connie?

    Eddie Smith

Now we all know that Rangers were reported last year for singing banned songs

I seem to recall that the fellow who pointed out this out to uefa was a celtic man

The huns of course attacked the finger pointer as the real cause of the problem

I can clearly see and understand the finger pointers motivation to upset the huns

This time the shoe is on the other foot

It is ourselves who are being accused. This time the finger pointer is Eddie Smith

Was he acting on his authority as an independent Policeman / Referee

Or was he acting as an outraged Rangers fan (fair enough)

However If he was acting in his capacity as a big neutral Polis/ referee, then I expect to hear more from him

  18. The snp, strathclyde police, the sfa, spl, uefa and now the cusTOADYins of CFC all agree we can’t sing what they can’t mention…….

“Let the people sing” my erse

  19. Still absolutely stunned.

What is to be lost by appealing??? They may increase the fine? So what.

Celtic plc – you do not speak for me.

    Abominable decision.

  20. Peter Lawwell has today confirmed what many of us have thought for some time. The man is spineless. Anyone who had any doubt that this board will choose to keep the Huns alive, in whatever format, I trust you have no more doubts.

The club are happy to play “Let the People Sing” and the “Fields of Athenry” over the tannoy, these songs are viewed by our enemies as the same as any other pro-Irish song. The Wolfetones have recorded on the pitch at Celtic Park. No-one has yet said what songs are offensive and what aren’t ?

Shall we have to remove the statue of Brother Walfrid next, as religion has no place in football ?

  21. All those who questioned Phils blog yesterday – you were wrong it looks as if the fine suits the boards agenda. What next?

  22. There you have it Bhoys, this must be the biggest stitch up in the history of CFC and the morons on the board are part of it-

Disgusted and fear for the future of our club-

The plc must respond to the fans right now and tell us what the illicit chants are.

    Really p— of about this.

I’m ant Board (specifically PL). But it think he has this one right..it’s the pragmatic response to a rubbish situation. Conversely many previously pro Board folk will have difficulty with the decision… I wonder that this may divide fans along different lines than you suggest?

Having stated the above.. I’m always suspicious of PL’s motives and do not think one decision alters my over all view of him..

Do you actually know specifically what we have been fined for?

Do you think such behaviour is in and of itself wrong?

Or do just think we should stop the behaviour because UEFA says we should?

  25. What is more important ?

Supporting Celtic , defending the right to sing whatever we want , petty challenges on what is and is not illicit, finding out why Eddie Smith did what he did ?

Work it out guys it’s not hard.

I have no interest in what the huns do or do not – they are beneath me.

I love Celtic and never again want us on any charge for the behaviour of our support.

Time to grow up and move on. A victory in Italia awaits.

  29. Lads I got a picture from Huns saying the real Scotlands shame with us being charged.

Lawell is guilty he said it in the last AGM we will get these chants to STOP.

Let’s see how strong the Celtic support take the fight to this weak board.

How is not appealing a fine in the interests of the Celtic shreholders?

    …………..

Probably because they think they’d loose the appeal and it could cost more money. But unless somebody actually comes out and says what the “illicit” songs where, we’ll never know.

  31. Celtic….Never a bad word against you….

You are now complicit in myself and my daughters being criminalised ….I will not renew their season tickets…I FEAR FOR MY FAMILIES FUTURE>>>
