League reconstruction will soon look like a fantasy

287

The bun fight in Scottish football, where Partick Thistle have taken counsel opinion and, along with other bottom of the table clubs, threaten legal action if the season is brought to a halt without them being saved from the drop, looks impossible to settle soon.

Hearts and Thistle hope for more than a commitment to discuss the league reconstruction change that will save them from the consequences of being so poor this season.  Both are set to go to court, if necessary, which, I suppose, is an alternative to using your superior financial muscle to outperform smaller clubs.  As things stand, the league will wait until it is safe, then resume, which may delay the start of next season.

There are various event horizons between now and then.  Without football, a cash crunch lies ahead for every club.  For some, that is likely to be a matter of weeks.  Most Scottish clubs will run out of money and available funding by summer.  Celtic can afford to sit tight, as can Partick Thistle – if Christine Weir is prepared to make good any shortfall.

Whatever prize money or loans the SPFL can issue is important but it will not change the bigger picture for the majority of clubs in the top flight.  There, only Celtic have the reserves or funders on the board, to see this crisis out.  The immediate worry for most is to survive three or four months without income, before they can issue season ticket renewals.

Clubs have yet to receive guidance on when attendance at sporting events will be permitted.  When that arrives, talk about league reconstruction, with more mouths to feed in the top flight and throughout, will seem like a fantasy.

There will be significantly less money in Scottish football going forward, we will be able to support fewer full time clubs and if resources are not concentrated within a smaller pool, their dilution through an expanded league will lead to many clubs withering on the vine.

We should sit tight and let the various losers squabble.

  1. AngelGabriel,

I agree the relegation is a much greater injustice but reconstruction if it goes through will solve that.

For that reason alone I hope there is reconstruction next season even if it’s only for 1 year.

If it doesn’t happen I expect the relegated teams will get Financial recompense and to be fair if they don’t win promotion next season they probably deserved relegation

  2. Incidentally

The current plans for premiership financial spilt for 20/21 season on a bigger league of 14

Top 6 recieve what is in current plans

Bottom 8 split between what is currently planned for the 6 if league had to remain at 12

(They all have an extra home game to make up any shortfall)

    Makes sense to me 😂😂

Ibrox Noise announced that this title is the most tainted in history, irony and self awareness knows no bounds. Even though all of this at the moment only affects bottom tiers, muppets

  4. The only asterisk against our title should be to indicate the 13 point gap would probably have been more. The same as in cricket – “not out”.

  5. The silence out of ibrox has me thinking they’re actually engaging the services of a QC. Excellent. Let them piss away more money on legal fees.

  6. The 99 year old guy, walking round his garden for the NHS, has currently raised £10 million 😳….Park will headhunt the old boy for Poundland

Celtic, by dint of their prowess and on-field performances……. have won this League by amassing more points than any of the competition.

Boycotts. Off to England. Sporting integrity. The last one had me in stitches.

    One good point though.

How come Budge is leading the task to reconstruct the leagues?

She will of course be objective and even handed. Aye right.

  14. Midnight and no statement from The Rangers.

    Is that a first?

If it is, it will be the only first they’ll see this season.

  15. When the early enquiries about the EBTs were made can anyone(Auldheid ?) remember who stated it was akin to match fixing?

    Cheers

Oh the pain of Der Hun.

It’s amazing how all of a sudden Sevco and their zombie fans cared about the rest of Scottish football up until Dundee finally cast their vote last night. Then it was a Sunami of no feck Scottish football, we will boycot away grounds, semi finals, finals (as if they will reach another one) and concerts at Hampdump. 😂😂😂 Oh Ma sides – So if they get to a semi or final against us they will not take tickets😂😂😂 also could any of the artists/bands that would play at Hampdump give a flying feck if wee Billy and his wife Willimina don’t buy a ticket😂😂😂 oh ma sides.

We all know what is at the heart of the zombies seethingness and permarage and it’s the thought that we will get the 9th title in a row, yes 9IAR and 1 away from breaking another Scottish record😂😂😂 oh ma sides.

I cannot wait for crayon o’clock today, they will be suing everyone. 😂😂😂

I think I will have jelly and ice cream for brekfast.

  17. Good morning, friends, from a beautiful, fresh, predominantly clear skied, dry and optimistic looking East Kilbride. Whilst I am happy that we tend to leave the ‘lest issue a statement’ approach to other teams I wouldn’t mind Saint Peter putting out a wee wind up one today, congratulating Raith Rovers on winning league One by 1 point but emphasising Celtic’s preference to eventually play the remaining 8 games in an attempt to secure the additional 20 points required to achieve 100 points…assuming that our opponents for those 8 scheduled games (Sevco [twice], St Johnstone, HIbs [twice], Motherwell, Aberdeen and Livinmgston) all still exist ;-)

  18. My God , is the only viable and realistic exit strategy ” herd” immunity.

I’m no medic, but scrutinizing differing information streams leads me to that conclusion.

HH to all and stay safe.

  19. I wasn’t particularly in favour of reconstruction largely because I wanted to see Hearts and Budge go down.

However, a 14 team league encompassing a top 6 split with home and away games will gives us 36 games in a league season. Meaning everyone playing the same amount of home and away games against each other.

That is a big carrot for reconstruction. Seeing us playing the top 6 twice away from home while they only had played away once at all the top 6 grounds was something that should have given them a clear advantage this season.

We were facing a third trip away to Easter Road or Livi while they had a third home game lined up against Aberdeen or Motherwell after the split.

Reconstruction means this ridiculous situation can not arise again.

  20. I’m sure it was nimmo Smith who used the words match fixing ,then fined them ,a transfer embargo which wasn’t and said no sporting advantage due to disguised payments was gained or was there any dishonesty , that judgement in its entirety needs revisited as he lumped both wee and big tax case together.

  21. Well STs should be less due to the fact we only have to deep clean the stadium once per season for league games.

Doesnt look good Budge is involved in reconstruction.

    IMO

Did I miss a wee stooshie here yesterday afternoon?

I had a quick look in, left a small contribution and went away to cook dinner.

    Can anyone shed any light?

I just read that clown McCoist comparing the SPFL holding an INTERNAL enquiry

internal enquiry when in throngs of Liquidation leading to the LNS case

    ——

The expression was used by the SFA Judicial Panel investigating non-payment in the sum of around £13 million of PAYE, National Insurance and VAT by Rangers under Craig Whyte:

“The Tribunal attempted in its exercise of fixing these matters on the scale of offences to identify a more serious offence than those on the complaints, and concluded that only match fixing in its various forms might be a more serious breach.”

An appeal panel chaired by Lord Carloway subsequently approved of that characterisation of the offence.
