No bids for Tierney and none wanted

297

Despite reports to the contrary, Celtic have not received a bid for Kieran Tierney and are not impressed by media attempts to unsettle the squad.  Kieran recently signed a six-year contract.  Celtic expect the player to be an integral part of team building over the next several years.  Having only just turned 21, they also expect his value to continue to appreciate.

Celtic do not have to sell and do not want to sell.  We are a well managed club with money available to fulfill strategic plans.  We have recruitment plans and budget in place for this summer; we are not planning to recruit a first choice left back or spend an unexpected windfall.  This attention is unwelcome and a distraction from Champions League preparations.

I also hear Kieran’s agent is relaxed with the player at Celtic and not agitating for a move.  I suspect Everton have let their trusted outlets know they are interested in the player, but it has not gone beyond that stage.

  1. KIKINTHENAKAS – delighted if you (and Paul) are right. Professional sport is ruled by money, if KT is an exception to the rule then he is one-in-a-million indeed. Cheers.

  2. As for us that can afford Celtic T V, would it be to much to ask if we we’re giving updates on transfers or what developments inside our outside Celtic Park, also Lennoxtown, Barrowfield, that’s one of the downfalls bad Public Relations, with the most important ones,The Fans, who at times are treated like Second class citizens.

  3. James Forrest is up claiming the story is a load of old shoite, I hope he is correct.

Not sure I follow your point.

Are you happy with the quality of recruitment to date?

    1. What level of detail do you expect with regard to whats going on at Lennoxtown, Barrowfield?

    2. You do realise that updating everyone on potential transfers before they happen can jeapordise a deal, depending on the stage its at, right?

You said if you take the French boys away BR’s signings are not so impressive. Its not really a legitimate argument – its like saying ‘in order to support my argument, I’m going to ignore some of the most important bits!’

Fact is many of the others were squad players brought in to supplement a strongish spine that was already there or in the process of coming through to establish themselves eg. Tierney/McGregor.

  7. P67 — I think you doth protest too much.

Then you talk about “recruitment plans and budget being in place”.

I fear we are trying to be too clever in all of this.

    We all know the issues:

    LB — talent pipeline.

    CB — experience.

RB — succession planning / good enough to start in 7 day’s time.

DM — who do we have and if they are not good enough for 7 day’s time then we need to get moving.

CM / SB succession planning — need to get things moving in this area.

When SB didn’t turn up last season we were very poor.

Going to happen more and more often.

Then there is the issue of a properly functioning reserve team / squad.

Everybody good enough to step up as and when required.

We are some way away from this and it needs work.

Isn’t that a bit idealistic? If they’re good enough to step up they’re not going to be happy playing reserves/development squad football. And if they’re good enough to step up then by law of averages alone some of them will be better than whats currently there, so then what? Like KT they become first team regulars and you bench/sell the existing player performing the role.

  11. My friends in Celtic.

We don’t yet know the truth behind the KT transfer.

However Everton are no ” Stalking Horse” .They are a revitalised club with new mega rich owners who are ambitious. They are in the top 20 highest revenue generating clubs and currently have the costliest goalkeeper in British history whose profile is set to go through the roof.

Most of us can remember Man City before the new mega rich regime took over and look at them now.

I desperately want KT to stay but I believe The Exiled Tim has made a good point. Some of the ” tackles ” have been ridiculous with players lining up to take him out the game. He gets fouled with impunity as the referees seem unable to protect him.

If you were influential in his destiny, would you advise him to stay with the hammer throwers?

Disgraceful the way this national asset has been treated in Scottish Football.

Nobody said it was going to be easy but the variability is the issue.

I am of a vintage that remembers a time when the reserve team was well known to the support.

Now they are just loan fodder and then release fodder.

Last season we had nobody coming through the ranks that was a credible striker.

Huge spend on the youths / reserves and we had no-one with the last player being TW from 5 years ago. Big fail that needs addressed.

LB — three years ago we had CW and KT in the youths.

Now it has all gone very quiet.

CB — we have no one ready to come through.

KA — converted CM who we got late in the day because of RD.

MF — some players who would appear to be stagnating.

2 years ago we had a full youth team playing real players in a kid on cup.

That at least was a start of a functioning youth / reserve team.

    Now we have regressed.

Living in England I fully expect the flag of St George to be ubiquitous – and it is – it’s the old union flag that I object too being paraded when engerlund are playing

I watched us get dry humped by the huns wee boys in the youths a few months ago – couldn’t believe how poor we were and how we made the huns look like Barca.

I guess for balance there is probably Mikey Johnstone and Antony Ralston, although not a great fan of the latter. I guess that’s why we are looking at overseas options for the squad.

I am with you on the talent coming through and the importance of youth development. I just don’t think in the modern game it is feasible to expect to have a team behind the first team to be as good and if they are, to be happy with that scenario themselves.

Like you I’d love to see more than we currently produce but its so difficult to tell who is going to make the grade.

We paraded Mike McGlinchey on the pitch as a 15 year old when he signed yet let Andy Robertson go a few years later at a similar age because he was too small.

The moral is if they hit 17/18 and they have the quality then integrate them into the first team squad and move on the ones who clearly don’t. Now and again if there is a question mark we can loan them out for a couple of years to give us more time to make a decision(a bit like we’re doing with Christie).

    Milan 1970 .

Milan was in the midst of an attempted General Strike . Year 3 of the so called Years Of Lead .. Policemen shot , terrorist bombings, political assassinations , the assassination of trade unionists , The Red Brigade , Neo Fascists ,Communists , Socialists , Maoists and Agent Provocateurs working for factions within the military who wanted to justify a Military Coup. .Gun fights in the street between anarchists and the State Police . Bombs on the public transport system . Lots of injuries .lots of deaths , school, big factories shut for months on end, schools shut , Universities shut etc etc. The last thing the city needed was a European Cup Final . There were no programmes because most of the printers were on strike..

I don’t remember the locals supporting Feyenoord , my memory is of a city that simply couldn’t be assed with the hassle. of a big game in a stressed to breaking point city.

  22. I predict that Truth, B & F won`t receive as many calls to reconsider leaving the site as did Jobo. Just a hunch.

    JJ

  23. No bids received does not mean no interest in the player. In fact it seems to me that that phrase means there is definitely interest.

Celtic not being happy at media speculation about player means nothing in the big world.

KT is a good player who is captain/leader material in any team.

He will attract interest – it’s what he & Celtic want ultimately.

His six year contract means that at this moment in time – if he were sold – the selling price & his deal would be higher.

Locking players down on long term deals is a clear signal to all parties that Celtic know the value of their player asset.

Our players attracting interest from other clubs is normal – it’s what we do with other clubs too when we fancy their players.

This uncertainty seems a bit like a version of the dreaded Chairman’s vote of confidence in the Manager – just before the Monday morning board meeting where he’s sacked.

KT is happy at Celtic & Celtic are hapy to keep him – but as BR has already stated – if thresholds were crossed & boxes ticked – who knows.

    Happy July 4

Long time since I posted, but on holiday in northern Portugal and getting myself around a rum or two.

Ive been in Lisbon many times and love the place, but this is my first time in Porto and imo its even better – theres a vibe in this city that I can’t put a name to, but it feels like a morning in the best bed ever. Got to say I love the Portuguese, they seem to get friendlier each time I visit.
