Our game in jeopardy. There are no words

548

Footballers may be our champions, but you probably have little idea the trouble that goes into getting some mundane, but not contracted, tasks completed.  There are exceptions, but the industry has a hierarchical system where the powerful (players) make sure their powerless colleagues (anyone else employed by the club who is not the coach or CEO) know their place in the food chain.  Even within the players group, the hierarchy is alive and well.

I have seen this with my own eyes going back as far as Martin O’Neill’s team and it can be brutal.  “Welcome to the club, son, now you better start acting like Beyonce”, seems to be how it goes.  We treat them like pampered superstars and they behave accordingly.  They certainly don’t need to worry about the people who ultimately pay their wages, because their wages are guaranteed, often for years.

Today, I feel resentment towards players as a group, which I know is unfair.  All the minor infractions I have been aware of over the years were brought to the surface by one major infraction.  That’s judging a group by the actions of a few, and we have names for that kind of thinking.  Better to remember Callum McGregor and Scott Brown reaching out to the dying.  Some players ‘get it’ and I am grateful for that.

The game in Scotland and Celtic’s European campaign is in jeopardy because of the actions of one Celtic player.  There are no words.  He can take a taxi back to the airport in two weeks.  Some others could do with a dose of humility, and learn to behave less like divas and more like respectful adults.

  1. Both James Forrest and PhilMac questioning the decision to grant the players 2 days off . I expect that decision was sports science driven.

However, I trust the manager (and its Celtic we are talking about here and not St Roch’s) didn’t treat himself to 2 days off . There is plenty of work to be done and if he thinks he’s so good that 2 days off ( like the players) is fine and dandy, he should think again.

The whole episode is a disgrace.

Is the confusion of your exchange with Timaloy eased at all if we say that Aberdeen has no CEO currently.

As it stands it seems equally appropriate to say thet the Celtic equivalent of Dave Cormack is Dermot Desmond but there is a case for saying PL is also his counterpart as he chairs the Board. The confusion is because Dave Cormack has two hats, n’est-ce-pas?

  3. UEFA have confirmed that Celtic’s first round Champions League qualifier with KR Reykjavik is ON, despite reports that the Parkhead club could be kicked out the competition.

A UEFA statement read: “At this stage match is scheduled to take place as planned and we have no further comment to make.”

  4. Let’s remember that Aberdeen have had positive tests. Celtic have not.

Our Club is being collectively punished via a political (not medical) suspension because of the actions of one man acting against Club instructions.

I suppose the silver lining is we now need to sign a left back.

    Hopefully he’s better than Taylor.

  6. Yes its political as they are in charge of Public Health, what is not being mentioned is a Sevco Motherwell game going ahead without up to date Covid test results for 9 Sevco players , im not justifying Boli as he should be finished but this is ignored completely, by the same people the SFA SPFL the Government and the media.

I have also asked my MSP for her views on this that the full picture is not being painted.

  7. Mock-up makes no sense that Killie games are on,could be a punishment exercise we got.

  8. The RVK game will have even more pressure and focus on us, and we go into it two games short of where we should be in terms of conditioning.

We’re potentially 90 mins away next week from being out of Europe and 8 points behind Sevco.

I hope we’re getting on top of this farce. I hope we’ve a strategy and I hope we bring in a lot of quality to bolster a squad that will face a hugely busy football calendar during the months ahead.

  9. no logic in games being cancelled if he does not have virus. It is a punishment. But we cannot complain.. Pity as we would have been playing Aberdeen reserves. Hopefully the club will now try to buy players that we need NOW!. the window should end as season starts . already dropped 2 points and risking Euro elimination. Left back , 2 centre halfs , at least one winger and 2 centre forwards. Griffiths is a waste of space you cannot rely on him as he is always unavailable.

  11. What I hope is going on at Celtic is a calm approach to the situation brought on by one of our players. Key is preparation for our next game – eyes on the target. In the meantime the bloggers will do the other stuff.

  12. BSR @ 4:23 PM,

Let me put this in context, the reason I say the Culture is rotten and I have said it in the past, is the way the senior management operate.

How players that “get us” perform, the support, the fans of course, the Celtic foundation, the wider Celtic family etc etc all function and intergrate is great and no PLC can take that away from us.

The way the PLC function, less so.

Firstly the fact that they are a PLC before a football club and aim to excel as a PLC and not as a football club.

Secondly the black arts, just two of many examples…

… the Character assassination of Brendan Rodgers, throwing Leigh Griffths under a bus.

Then the way they deal with other Clubs and players… recent examples – Lustig, Hayes, Simunovic getting usthered out the back door with a bad taste in their mouth.

How can this breed anything other than a bad reputation and corporate culture?

It’s well into the twentieth century, Celtic need to catch up.

Boli Bolingoli showed zero respect for the hoops…. we need to ask ourselves why?

The reason I try not to post anything too controversial on CQN is for exactly what happened today, also to not upset many CQNers that I have the deepest respect for.

Sentinnel Celts allows for debate… I posted early this morning disagreeing with Mahe’s lead and no one wanted to cruxify me… I wasn’t a usual suspect. They debate the content, not attack the person.

I had a totally legitimate point today and I made it, of course I don’t like disagreeing with P67 and normally I bite my lip.

But the hypocracy of going after Cormack and absolving big Pedro… come on… talk about double think.

God bless you and yours and all the jungle tims… they didn’t care about the shysters running their club… it almost cost them dearly though… that Board was playing with our infrastructure, this one our soul…

    Hail Hail

Right.Celtic have a very busy season ahead on the domestic front and games in Europe. This is also a time for the players to earn their spurs and rise to the occasion.Recent developments i.e. two points dropped,Boli and LG have not made for good reading. The players that we have at our disposal ( plus newbies ) should be enough to see us through, this hiccup.Yes two points dropped, not good, but as I say,we are more than capable of seeing off the challenge from whoever step forward.Boli, well he is not a foolish kid, what he did was wrong, big time.He will be dealt with internally and could be on his way out.LG,I cannot work out why he is not toeing the line,in this a very important year for club and fans.I was thinking what ‘if’ Mr.Stein was around just now,and how he would have approached the Boli and LG issue….or if the Big Man had been in charge, would the two players in question have reacted differently.

    Heads down CSC.

  14. Linfield’s Champions League qualifier with FC Drita has been called off after a second player from the Kosovo side tested positive for coronavirus.

Accordingly, the upcoming fixture cannot be played. The matter will now be submitted to the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body, for a decision to be taken in accordance with Annex I of the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League regulations, which was approved by the UEFA Executive Committee last week.

If it can’t be played by 14th Aug (UEFA Covid rules) I suspect Drita will have to forfeit the tie.

  15. If the Scottish Govt issue the Big Red card, will we be awarded the title based on the SQA Algorithm ?….which apparently decides future outcomes based on previous performance.

Here We Go, Eleven in a Row…

    Or…

SPFL agree to award Title based on Clyde Super Scoreboard predictions

  17. SFtBs @ 4:36 PM,

That’s interesting, will they get a CEO, DoF or both?

The thing is, we’ll have to see what Dave Cormack manages to do.

I stated a while back that as soon as Ann Budge took the decision to build a new stand instead of a new Stadium she was no good for Hearts.

A top football club with a specially built Stadium with good communications links in the Capital would have cleaned up and blown Sevco out of the waater.

As far as Celtic are concerned we need…

    A football Chairman

    A CEO

    A COO

    A Director of Football

We have big Pedro with Malcolm Tucker as his henchman.

That’s why things don’t get done. A COO in an organisation the size of Celtic is a crucial role…

    Covid

    VST

    Adidas

    Stadium re-organisation etc etc

Needs a dedicated Director. If the ghuy exsisted he’d be working 24/7…

    Hail Hail

  18. Just heard Adrian Durham ranting on on Talksport that Celtic were responsible for Boli’s behaviour, they could have taken passports (all of them) and ‘internal disciplinary action) not good enough.

Celtic should be docked the point from Kilmarnock game plus 3 points for each of the St Mirren and Aberdeen games.

He really showed his dislike and contempt for us bhoys – avoid him like the plague.

  19. Some folks should be ashamed of themselves and not just muppet Boli.

I could give a monkeys if sevco move 8 pts clear or more with us having games in hand.

Its not ideal but to suggest the 10 in a row is now in serious doubt or ‘gone’ is just negative bullcrap.

I also do not see how this is Peter Lawell’s fault or indeed Neil Lennon.

The Scottish government and the stupid girl who runs the show are playing to the galleries to save their own bacon.

Celtic have ZERO cases of this ‘mysterious’ disease that has everybody acting like citizens of East Germany post world war two.

I will stand by our chairman and our manager and our team.

Anyone who wants to use it stamp their own agenda is welcome to do it elsewhere.

In the words of Paul McCartney and the frog chorus…’We All Stand Together’….lol

  20. Looking at the fixtures, it’s difficult to see where we fit these postponed games in before the end of the year.

We’ve international breaks in September and October with probable European games and SC games to go ahead.

We could possibly be going into 2021 with four games to make up on Sevco. Our squad will be pushed very hard with no winter break this season.

For the first time, I’m concerned about our league chances. I could do with the huns dropping points soon.

No mention of the stocks or the guillotine? Surprising coming from that rabid hun.

  22. Bolingoli-MBomboClot, what a complete fanny, he has now jeopardised the whole of

Scottish Football this Season due to his selfish karma & looking @ another Club on

the fly. WTF, good, he is rubbish anyway, get rid of him. Now Nicola Famdazidozy,

has basical said, three strikes & Scottish Footy is halted this Season. We are now

on two strikes, with Nicola Famdazidozy, issuing a Yellow Card, & we all know what

    follows yellow, Red.

We are now on a shakey wicket, we will all have to be all on our guard.

As I mentioned last night, we now have to look @ bringing in more Defenders.

Defenders, Defenders, where art though more Defenders?

  23. GENE on 11TH AUGUST 2020 5:37 PM

    The cry was more defenders

Yeah Gene, all good teams are built out from the Back.

  24. “Boligate” should be put behind us. Think we need to change the narrative as we now have time to sharpen up the tactical awareness and energy before next Tuesday’s CL game.

And although we might have to wait until next year to play catch up, we might play some of them in front of fans attending CP and have new players well fitted into the squad and playing the Celtic way.

If we are points behind and if we go on a run the leaders will look over their shoulders like a tiring horse lumbering up the closing straight with a thoroughbred charging up on the outside.

Just make sure we are in a situation to terrify teams above us when the time comes !

  26. Talking of players , Paul, I think the worst example by miles is Mesut Ozil of Arsenal. He is, when he can be arsed, a fabulous player, no doubt but a thoroughly bad little character, with no thought for the club or it’s fans, a disgrace of a human being.
