Rangers, streetwalkers of football, face their deadline

778

There’s something undignified at the shenanigans at Ibrox right now.  Despite being under no pressure to pay the disputed tax demand, Rangers are tarting around their top player in a desperate attempt to raise money.

After the Plus Stock Exchange suspended dealing in their shares the club stated it would produce overdue accounts for season 2010-11 around the end of this month, which coincides with the end of the transfer window.  Any auditor needs to be in a position to state that the company has enough cash to be considered a going concern before he would be in a position to sign-off the accounts.  Rangers are now in a desperate bid for cash as their self-imposed (late) date to provide shareholders with statutory information has arrived.

Claims were made that a front-loaded war-chest was made available to Ex-Rangers manager, Ally McCoist (still too early?  Hmmmm) at the start of the season and it was subsequently suggested that a £9m bid was rejected for Nikica Jelavic, but now the same player is available for a fraction of that sum – available for cash, that is.

McCoist kept their season alive but as reality dawn and Neil Lennon’s Celtic turned up the heat, his challenge abated.

The trusty old media, for so long a crutch throughout Rangers rather unique history, are set to desert the White Star Line’s most famous vessel.  The day draws near.

Tonight feels like the tipping point has just passed. Bloody drunk the bottle of shampoo that has been living in my fridge, waiting for the day, on Saturday night. Will have to go to the off licence to restock. Will need to take an umbrella, to stop the pennies that are falling out of the glasgow night sky, battering me.

I’ve been waiting on something like this, to be honest. It’s an obvious step, which happens all the time in politics and business. When someone in a managerial post is clearly leading the ship towards the rocks the leaks start, the poison drips, the natives start to eat their children ….

This is what they mean when they talk about an “uncivil war.” Of course this is a last ditch effort to save the club from the madman at the helm. People inside have realised where this is going, and others, for their own reasons (Hell hath no fury like what?) are drip-feeding their own stuff.

Whyte was naive not to realise this would happen. No-one has done more to endanger the life of Rangers than this guy, and I have been expecting it for a while now. It pleases me it’s come too late to help.

  13. Questions, questions.

How exactly was a UEFA licence granted?

Was their an agreement to pay and if that was not honoured should that have been declared by Rangers or clarification sought?

Were Rangers using two contracts for players on EBTs and did they notify the SFA. If they did should the SFA have asked questions as to their legitimacy?

The valuation placed on Ibrox was clearly excessive, had the SFA on looking at past accounts when licencing not a duty to question those valuations?

There can be no question of reinstatement of any club in any form until these fundamental questions are answered by those responsible for applying the rules designed to protect all of our game rather than one part of it.

Then and only then can we start to look at repairing the damage and if that means removing the causes that is what is required.

  14. I hear that Tommy Sheridan announced today that if he has to face another trial that he wants it to be at Murray Park.

He will be guaranteed to be released the same day.

  15. Well its well and truly started tonight, the @save the Rangers’ campaign is now officially open !

HK and Spiers tonight nailed their colours to the mast stating that Rangers must be saved and allowed into the SPL, we need them, Scotland need them, the world needs them !

ALl the old establishment crap will now be poeddled, ALex Salmond will need to make sure he gets involved …. what a load of utter dross.

WHen it was mooted that Celtic and Rangers were trying to go to the EPL HK stated that it woul dbe a good thing for scottish footy, now if Rangers die its suddenyl bad to only have Celtic there .

Cognitive Dissonance with Pressley always in middle of controversy

Stephen Pressley’s Falkirk team did well at Hampden yesterday but the manager did himself no credit with his half time rant at the referee, who chopped off a perfectly good Celtic goal but annoyed Pressley for awarding a penalty when Thomas Rogne was hauled to the ground.

An irritated Pressley, who always seems to be the one in the middle of any controversy, then gave an inexplicable post-match interview to the BBC, demonstrating as clear a case of Cognitive Dissonance you are likely to find outside of a textbook. At the time he, apparently, hadn’t seen a TV replay of the penalty incident, made no attempt to claim Darren Dods was innocent of the alleged discretion, nor did he suggest the referee had erred, but he was clearly troubled trying to reconcile these facts with his feeling of being wronged.

To all aspiring Cognitive Dissonance posters in the CQN comments section, new standards have been set. You are a bunch of amateurs with functioning resolution pathways and have no future in the game.

On FF the delusion continues apace:

“When will corruption charges arrive at SFA’s doorstep?

Below is an old quote from 1997.

The realist view is shared by the game’s governing body. “Obviously we are not happy with anything that brings the game into disrepute,” said Keith Cooper, of Fifa, the game’s world governing body. “But when you bear in mind the scope of the game, without sounding complacent, it is bound to have some black sheep. In which walk of life do you not?

“It’s hard to tell how much cheating there is but you can’t avoid the feeling that as more money comes into the game the temptation to do something naughty increases.”

    L. Johansson, The Uefa president added: “We must improve the moral development of the game. I am extremely worried that many players, referees and coaches are being accused of bribes. We must not only preach fair play, we must see to it that everyone in football knows it pays to behave and if you don’t you will pay for it.”

Mike Collett, Reuters’ European football editor, who interviewed Johansson, said: “I believe the authorities are determined to sweep out corruption and to be seen to be doing that but I’m also convinced there is a lot of it going on. There is so much money involved. It’s not the players, it is the club officials.”

When Kurt Rothlisberger, a Uefa referee, was banned Johansson admitted, “This could just be the tip of the iceberg.” He added last week: “The more you dig the more you find.” If it is serious about cleaning the game up Uefa could start by increasing the punishments. After being found guilty of attempting to bribe a referee in the Champions’ League Dynamo Kiev were allowed back into competition the following season.

So here is the situation. We can’t really complain too much because at times, it is fun to laugh at the beggar’s incessant calls about corruption and conspiracy. Through the years we have still managed to win the most and look down upon them.

However, with some of the obvious knowledge over the last 12 to 13 years when things have continued to turn in “their” favour, should we be really worried now about Liewell, Lunny, the SNP and Regan’s actions? Are they so corrupt in trying to turn around all “perceived” injustices toward the dhims that they really will pursure all avenues, even eradicating us from existence?

Who knows, but after years of perceived corruption around the rest of Europe, isn’t it about time some “outside” journalist or media agency took a serious look at the small time, possibly morally-bankrupt setup at the current SFA and SPL? Past European investigations could pale in comparison with what “may” be occurring right in our own backyard. Maybe I’m just paranoid too and read too much on here and on Leggat’s blog!!!!
