Signing no-marks, CL shake-out

289

You have to love the weeks of anticipation ahead of the new season, when teams can consider that just about anything is possible. Nowhere is this truer than at Newco, where the pages of newspapers proclaim the signing of some or other no-mark you have never heard of.

From a purely football aspect, the imminent challenge for boss Caixinha, to qualify for the Europa League group stage, is fascinating. Do not for a second believe he has been asked to lay a glove on Celtic, pragmatism determines this is clearly not possible.

After a season of domestic invincibility, there are a few in our ranks who believe our own imminent challenge, to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League, will be a formality. I doubt it will be. We will certainly be better prepared than we have been for many years, but you can expect to see tense times in Scandinavia, Easter Europe, or perhaps Central Asia.

Celtic teams with Larsson, Sutton, Hartson, Thompson, Lambert and Lennon failed this task. Peter Lawwell has money to spend right now, but he cannot count on a huge dividend from Uefa until it is guaranteed.

The Road To Lisbon

The Road To Lisbon team announced this morning that they achieved their target of raising £50k for Celtic FC Foundation, Solving Kids Cancer and Children in Crossfire. It is a breath-taking achievement by CQNers and others. When Mouldy67 looks back on his life’s achievements, this chapter will put the biggest spring in his step.

Well done to all on a fantastic achievement. Here’s a message from Mouldy (who you can still support here):

Take a bow sir. Knowing you I know how maticulous you will have been in your planning if The Road To Lisbon cycle and the time and effort you will have put into it aside from pushing pedals training and on the cycle. You are a star buddy.

Well done to all other cyclists, including our very own Vmhan. Brilliant guys.

And a massive well done to everyone who assisted Mouldy67 in his preperation and planning.

Their are plenty places to buy or rent . Weather is good all year round , a lot of Scots and English haven moved there worth a visit to check it out

no offence meant but I’ve never understood why anyone would want to move to a foreign country and be surrounded by Scots and English ex-pats.

  5. I see Paddy Roberts has been cut from the Engerland U21 squad – can only be worth £2m max

Every silver lining has its cloud though and i guess it would mean big Ciftci wouldnt be returning!

I don’t even enjoy holidays surrounded by Brits……except in Lisbon and they’re all good Tims :-)

I just don’t understand. I know why, but don’t understand. The main attraction for me would be the change of culture, and the challenges all that would bring. We’re a few years away from retirement, but are seriously considering a move abroad when we don’t have to work for a living any more.

Its a stunning amount to match an incredible effort.

Its a slow typer that gets beat by me……bet you would have been quicker if a podium was awaiting!

Multi tasking is not my strong point……i’d struggle in the standing section to jump about and sing at the same time :-)

I think in 7 or 8 years on here, I’ve once had a ‘first’ on the podium. I peaked that day. i could never replicate the euphoria. ;-)

  16. I have it on very good authority that when you go for an interview at that bastion of corruption the SFA one of the questions asked during the interview is “What team do you support?”

Apparently asking what school you went to doesn’t cover all the bases these days.

If my ole memory serves me right, my 1st post was a podium.

No intention of making you jealous!(aye right)

It was much less sought after in those days and its still the only one ive notched.

Had lurked for a brief time but when it sat there……and sat there……the desire to step onto it overcame me!

Not sure how it would work out, but I imagine that any UK citizen contemplating retiring to an EU country, would have to consider post Brexit conditions.

It is not known how any EU reciprocal benefits, eg, health service would be affected.

What I can’t get the head around is some brits point blank refusal to even try to integrate, they complain when the Spanish can’t understand them, winkers, don’t bother with them any more, just keep ourselfs to ourselfs and never mix with them, I wouldn’t if I was back in britland or Ireland so for sure not here, they do like to be heard tho.

BATEEN BHOY , no offence taken , however! A was not saying I would do it was just trying to be polite in replying to a poster who asked a question. I.e. Giving him a bit of background cheers

They won’t be making things easy on that score, anything that will save them a few will be the order of the day me thinks, thankfully we are not in that boat.

    TET,

It may turn out ok for the Brit expats, but for anyone considering going for it, it may be advisable to check out their Irish, French,German, etc. granny and sort out their Passport.

    ============

I would put nothing past this lot but had a letter meeting the rules existed at the time other correspondence would have referred to it.

    Only discussions get mentioned..

  25. Thom

A lot of the ex pats are crapping themselfs, I have read a few of their forums and it’s not positive by the sounds of it, Spain is skint bottom line, and the last thing they will be doing is looking after brits unless they get reimbursed for their troubles and the brits won’t be weighing in, a stalemate, I don’t think it will turn out for the best, just a gut feeling.

I agree checking out the family tree :-)
