Six Celtic fans

1375

As six Celtic fans face the prospect of months in a Dutch jail if police evidence is preferred, take a look at this CCTV video from the Euro Pub in Dam Square:

This is no more than the strong bullying the vulnerable.  It is shocking and affected more than just Celtic fans, other innocent bystanders were picked on.

What can you do about it?  We’re looking for around 40 more bucketeers to collect before the Aberdeen game on Saturday for the legal defence of the six Celtic fans.  You’ll need to get to the stadium a bit early, bucket shaking will be required.  That’s all.

If you can help, email dambhoys8@yahoo.co.uk for more information. You’ll enjoy it.

Thank you.

Remember the Q&A in the Columba Club, Blantyre, tomorrow. I’ll be there with Phil Mac Giolla Bhain and Paul McConville. Tickets available at the door, we get underway at 8pm. See you there.

If you have not been to Celtic Park since the last home game, be prepared for pandemonium around London Road on Saturday. No one will be able to walk or drive from London Road up Kerrydale Street to the Park. Check out the open routes here and get there early.

It’s not often that I can say this but I posted something similar 5 minutes before. As Brth points out, they may have forfeited these rights in order to get a speedy decision.

  2. Blantyretim-how about a fundraiser in the KSC with a couple of bands maybe, send Kevin Bridges a tweet someone :)

  3. I don’t think I have been as angry as a Celtic supporter since maybe being cheated out of a Eurppean victory by those Rapid Vienna cheats.

Through the magazine I have been making contacts with supporters of the other UK teams in the Champions League and Europa League. A UK response here is required – why should Celtic or Manchester Utd or Chelsea fans have to tolerate these Dutch thugs and their Gestapo Police.

By the way I should also point out that the verdicts today make the official stats as follows.

Out of approximately 12,000 Celtic fans 28 were arrested.

Of these 13 were released or acquitted on the basis that they were completely innocent of any wrongdoing– in other words almost 50% of those detained.

It would appear therefore that in almost half of the cases concerned the Dutch Police have no option but to accept they got it wrong.

    Good Evening…

….irrespective of the outcome of these cases and any subsequent appeal, the entire affair, including the court hearings of today, reiterates my firm view that the City of Amsterdam is not a suitable place to hold any major sporting event and the lesson learned here is to never go there for a match under any circumstances.

I couldn’t agree more. Celtic fans are not the first to fall victim to this kind of state-sponsored thuggery in Amsterdam. Football fans from a variety of other clubs have had a similar experience. This city is unsafe. Avoid at all costs.

I would take it to the highest court possible, but as has been pointed out, it may not be possible to do that.

Bad advice from the origonal lawyers could have scuppered that, I have not a clue, maybes the lawyers on here could clarify.

I remember Janefield St well, I wasn’t aware there was a problem further down the street as me and my brother, Tony, made our way out the ground and along the street.

Suddenly there was a tension in the crowd and where we had room to walk suddenly we were compacted and being crushed. I became aware of the noise, not just your usual crowd stuff, something menacing and scary. That’s when I saw them coming.

Charging down Janefield Street, batons drawn above their heads. I was scared, adrenalin going through my veins like never before, I froze not knowing what to do when suddenly Tony grabbed me and pulled me to the side shouting £get out the way Eddie run”.

We moved to the side, there was nowhere to go, I could feel others crushing me as we tried to get out the way. Then something gave way, there was room to move, I just moved forward, being pushed by those behind me. I felt the bodies of those I stood on as I moved out the road of those on horseback.

Some railings had given way creating space for the crowd to disperse into the gardens. I looked back and saw those I trampled on scramble to their feet and run from the horse.

Some thought it was over as they passed and started making their way back down the street. Then those on the horses turned and charged again. I honestly despised those Police officers and tried to get Tony to help me stretch our flag across the street in an attempt to bring them down. Thankfully Tony being older saw sense and refused to take part.

    Janefield Street, my recurring nightmare.

  10. Boy am I glad I didn’t go to Amsterdam and went to Milan instead.

Police lie in courts every day.

Courts are there to protect the system, the establishment.

Courts will always protect lying policemen.

And will always come down like a tonne of bricks on individuals who’s defence is based on questioning the performance of the police.

The establishment requires a corrupt police force to keep the masses in check. Quid pro quo.

The courts validate the actions of the police and punish those who question the lies and brutality.

    Bada.

Indeed but we need it more than SSE who increased their bills by 15%

  15. However, irrespective of the outcome of these cases and any subsequent appeal, the entire affair, including the court hearings of today, reiterates my firm view that the City of Amsterdam is not a suitable place to hold any major sporting event and the lesson learned here is to never go there for a match under any circumstances.

Well put. If I was planning a major tournament and looked at the management of spectators historically, as one of the factors to decide where to hold that specific tournament, Amsterdam would come pretty low in the pecking order.

Quite frankly, as someone who has more recently taken to European City breaks, this is one city I would not go anywhere near.

  16. I think the club should put out a statement requesting that all Tic fans stay away from Holland in the future and I know it would probably (definitely) not be allowed but would ban them from our stadium also.

great points raised there. Did you pre warn Celtic fans about your concern regarding visiting Amsterdam? I follow most of your tweets and posts on here, but don’t remember any. I, of course, stand corrected.

Been in court once as a witness. Was working in pub stone cold sober ( in my younger years)

Man arrested for defending himself against a drunk. I was a witness for this man. Police told story of arrest I told story of the incident. I.E THE FACTS.

Police lie . As do atos doctors..

  21. I hope Celtic F.C. make an official complaint and I for one would agree with a total ban on Celtic fans ever going near Amsterdam again

HT minx. Ill be in touch after I speak to barsteward..forgive my language.

  23. Not much the club can do. Due process has been followed and the board cannot be seen to be questioning the legal system of a respected European country, even though many if us might find these sentences harsh in the extreme.

By allowing a bucket collection inside the ground and hopefully a statement saying all six are welcome back at Celtic Park, that would make the clubs position very clear.

Going to war with the Dutch is insanity.

Finally, so often we hear how wonderful tolerant liberal and progressive many of our European neighbours are. Don’t believe it. Corruption exists everywhere. Some places more than others, but you cannot escape it…
