SPFL ‘computer’ giving excuses to fail to those who need them

383

I love it when opponents get their excuses for failure in before a ball is kicked.  Reaction to yesterday’s Premiership fixture announcement, which sees Newco visit Celtic Park on 17 October, at the end of the first round of games, was conspiratorial.  You would have thought Wee Willie John McFadyen’s computer was running things.  Suspicion was also raised that Newco visit Aberdeen on the opening day of the season.

I hope they continue to lay the conspiracy theories on thick, providing a ready excuse to fail.  They will need it.

A bit of info while there’s nothing else on, all data from Transfermarkt so add your own caveats. Since 2012/13 season (when rangers were formed) Celtic have a net profit on player transfers of £36.9m, which is spookily similar to the amount in the bank before covid hit. In the same period rangers have a net deficit on transfers of £28m.

Celtic have generally spent £10m+ each year, with a considerable sale or two every couple of years maintaining the transfer credit. rangers spent no significant sums on players until 17/18 season, when they spent £10m in three consecutive years, however sales revenue has been consistently low as they struggled to find any value in their squad.

That’s a total net transfer spend difference of £51m over the last 8 years. Despite this delta Celtic have a squad valuation of £66m, compared to rangers at £43.3m. That’s gotta sting some.

A good read… amazed that Sevo’s squad are rated at £43mill

  7. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

An etims podcast last month was discussing the impact big Roy and Broonie had as captains and players on the team.

From memory , those on the podcast agreed big Roy was more influential as a leader than a player but Broonie’s influence as a leader and a player is the same .

I preferred Roy in midfield than in defence . I watched highlights of games in the eighties on you tube after listening to the podcast. Roy was far better than I gave him credit for during his career with us.

Broonie is Broonie . What a player and leader he has been for us despite his legs going on numerous occasions. Lol.

His presence on and off the pitch will be so hard to replace when he finally retires.

  8. TURKEYBHOY on 8TH JULY 2020 8:53 PM

How many times do we have to listen to this nonsense about Broony. For the past 3 seasons, the consensus among the experts is”Finished”.Last season he was immense.Looking at him in training he looks as good as ever.He will be leading the charge from the front again this season. He will know when his time is up.

That’s a poor contribution fella. It’s not nonsense. There’s a matter of fact (from good Celtic men’s data sources) that Broonie is getting older, slower and less impactful on the pitch (esp in Europe), beyond the immeasurable leadership stuff. Nobody is using words like ‘finished’ and as Rodgers changed him and Klopp did likewise for Milner, we need to manage him carefully at this age, to get the best out of him and get the best for the team.

Performance-wise, as shown by the Lazio game, there’s a strong case for a dynamic trio of callum-olivier-ryan and all today was about was a decent chat about what do we do with Broonie. Everyone who contributed has nothing but love for the fella.

For what’s it worth I think Neil will be overly sentimental about it and I hope we aren’t on here berating Broonie as a result of his ‘legs’..

Re your post about our club a secco team valuations, surely a decimal point missing from sevco’s ?

  10. Scott Brown just turned 35 a couple of weeks ago, He is well capable of playing a major part this season.

Might be wise to rest him now & then but barring injury I would expect to see him leading us in the vast majority of games this season.

  15. First single – ‘Blockbuster’ by The Sweet, whose lead singer coincidentally came from East Kilbride (possible urban myth!).

Wee story (and I’ll keep it brief). My first personal record player was a Fidelity Stereo music master, around 1971/72. A secret Christmas present. Me and my mammy went to Midnight Mass. On our return home just after 1am my dad (a non catholic, so still in the house) put the needle onto Track 12 of the album they had bought me – “Glasgow Celtic: the Champions” – with Bobby Lennox and Jimmy Johnstone on the cover running out of the tunnel. I think most of the singing was from what was the then reserve team players.

How is it that I can remember that but can barely remember last Tuesday…!

G’dbye to Jane by Slade one of my first records ever bought. None of my friends or me for that matter were into music . Living in a rural community we were making bogeys out of old Pram wheels and making tree houses in the woods etc . Then a new guy moved into our street and though he played football with us his main passion was Music ( can still see him playing air guitar). Anyway he took me as a friend and introduced me to Fleetwood Mac ( pre Stevie Nicks and Lynsey Buckingham) Albatross, The Green Manalishi and Oh Well. Classic line

Oh when I spoke to god I’d knew he’d understand , he said stick by me and I’ll be your guiding hand. But don’t ask me what I think of you I might not give the answer that you want me to. Where has 50 years gone. 42 nd wedding anniversary today. I’m getting old.HH
